Is Pfizer less of a clot risk than AZ?

AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 17:06

I’m looking for some answers but too scared to go down the rabbit hole

Also
what are the chances of surviving a brain clot?
Finally does AZ cause low platelets or you already have low platelets therefore there is a risk of blood clots?

Thank you in advance

Yes Pfizer is lower risk than AZ for blood clots
Chances of surviving depend on how early it is caught and are actually better now than earlier in pandemic because they know what treatments work.

Last I looked, which was two months ago, risk of blood clot from AZ was 4 in a million, with 81% survival rate. Obviously Pfizer is even lower than that...apparently no higher than what you’d normally see happen with no vaccine because people do get random blood clots anyway....so Pfizer has no added risk of blood clot. Again this is what I remember from two months ago, the data has probably been updated since then with newer numbers. However, it is clear it is a tiny risk compared to the risks presented by catching Covid.

Blood clots are not only side effect to be aware of. They should give you a leaflet with what to be on alert for when you get the vaccine.

I’ve had both mine (Pfizer) and only mild side effects.

@PlanDeRaccordement thank you so much

How old are you? That will affect whether you’re offered AZ or not.

AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 17:19

@PlanDeRaccordement could I please ask how old you are? I’m 40 so wondering if the side effects are different the older or younger you are

OP posts:
AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 17:21

@PurpleDaisies 40

If you would prefer to have Pfizer, you could go to a walk in centre. They advertise which ones they’ve got in advance. Most are doing Pfizer as they’re targeting younger age groups.

Have you had a first dose yet?

If you’re worried about falling down a rabbit hole, talking to your gp about your vaccine worries could be a good way forward.

AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 17:26

@PurpleDaisies spoke to gp/ she wants me to wait until my anxiety comes down

This will be my first dose

I’m checking my options

Any 40 year olds who have had Pfizer?

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 11/08/2021 17:40

I’m not quite 40 but close. I had pfizer. Just a sore arm the first time. The second time as well as that I felt rough (like starting a bad cold) for a couple of days but then I was fine.

Dh had AZ and only had a sore arm.

The latest research shows that Astra Zeneca and Pfizer have a similar safety profile and that you are at a much higher risk of blood clots if you get Covid.

Scottishgirl85 · 11/08/2021 17:47

You need serious perspective. Did you know your lifetime risk of dying in a car crash is about 1 in 250? Or per year the risk is 1 in 20,000.
Every medication has risks, covid vaccine is no different.

AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 17:51

@Scottishgirl85 I lost perspective during these lockdowns and now paying for it

I think it’s just luck of draw on side effects to be honest. Some friends younger than me were in bed for days, others who are older nothing, no side effects.
I am late 40s but in France so Pfizer is what I got.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 11/08/2021 17:57

40 year olds get Pfizer or Moderna, not Astra Zeneca anyway.

PurpleDaisies · 11/08/2021 17:59

That’s wrong. 40 year olds can get AZ. Dh did.
ScarlettSunset · 11/08/2021 18:13

If you are worried about the specific blood clots that occur with AZ, then it is possible to have Pfizer or Moderna instead.
I had Moderna and had a day of rough side effects after the 2nd vaccine, but some people don't get any at all.
If you are in England, many places are now offering walk in Pfizer vaccines

dementedpixie · 11/08/2021 18:16

Thought it was under 40s that get moderna or pfizer and 40+ it's mainly AZ. Might depend which vaccination centre you go to

@Mixingvax sorry it’s my state of mind- I’m not able to understand what he is saying

Is it that VITT is still lower in Pzifer in comparisons to AZ but there are other thrombosis as well which pzifer contributes to?

OP posts:
AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 19:30

Anyone had or know if anyone who had anaphylactic shock/allergy to pzifer?

I dont know anyone that's had a reaction to either of them. Dh and I had AZ as did most of the people I know. My mum (in her 70s) had pfizer as did one of my brothers as he's under 40.

kcha302927 · 11/08/2021 20:50

Pfizer is less risk of a blood clot but there are small risks with Pfizer too - it's not totally risk free even if less risk than Az

Where I live they seem to be giving all new doses as Pfizer regardless of age (even if over 40).

My partner went for his first dose of Pfizer in May and they give no info on more serious side effects. But with the second recently they were giving out information about small risks of heart problems and to watch out for chest pain etc.

I've had AZ and partner had Pfizer. We both had no side effects with either.
