How many people haven't had Covid yet?

Are there any figures on how many people in the UK haven't had covid yet? Can you get it more than once?

OP posts:
Chimentolo · 10/08/2021 09:21

I haven't, or if I have I was asymptomatic and none of my household had symptoms either.

Yes you can get it more than once.

Howshouldibehave · 10/08/2021 09:22

Hmmm, I’d be interested to know this.

I’d also be interested to know how many people have downloaded and then subsequently deleted the app!

dreamingbohemian · 10/08/2021 09:23

Interesting question. I think the problem is lots of people will have had it without knowing due to no symptoms.

I can't imagine we haven't had it -- DH in food retail, DC in primary school, we moved house last year. In London area with high rates.

But none of us have ever tested positive or had the clear cut symptoms so who knows.

MoreRainThanAnyYet · 10/08/2021 09:24

Well, if there have been 6 million UK cases, I’d say there are 60 milllion of us who still haven’t had it, give or take.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/08/2021 09:27

No one in my family has had it. A few of my friends have but most haven't.

You can definitely get it more than once. Friends of ours currently both have it. They had it last year, then had both jabs earlier this year, then caught it again (presumably a different variant) last week.

GoAwayCat · 10/08/2021 09:30

I haven't, and only know of one single person (someone I occasionally work with) who has tested positive. Kids are in nursery and haven't ever been sent home.

I have done an LFT when I had a cold but DH and the kids have never tested.

I live in a large town and we go out and about every day, see friends and family, go to kids clubs etc. I keep expecting it to hit us but it never has.

cravingmilkshake · 10/08/2021 09:41

No we haven't and have moved house last July, sent our one year old to nursery (who is now two), switched her to a childminder setting a couple of weeks ago, been to wimbledon and a fair amount of restaurants. I'm also pregnant with twins and due the end of September (no vaccination for me) and husband is CEV and is double jabbed. We keep thinking we will, but nothing yet.

Fingers crossed it stays that way until out babies are born!

whatswithtodaytoday · 10/08/2021 09:44

I would say more of my friends haven't than have, BUT I do know a lot of people who have had it. I'm baffled by people who don't know anyone who's had it!

We haven't yet, but it's inevitable now restrictions have been lifted and with a child in nursery, and us starting to socialise more again. I think we might have had it in Feb/March last year.

amicissimma · 10/08/2021 09:45

ONS was saying, based on antibody sampling, that about 1 in 7 have had it in the UK. I don't have time for a lot of Googling just now but can't find any clear reports. An organisation called Edge Heath says the number who have had it 'could be as high as 1 in 5'.

To take the middle figure, it looks as if about 5 people out of 6 haven't had it. I don't know about the 'yet' part of your question.

givemushypeasachance · 10/08/2021 09:47

I haven't - took part in a vaccine trial in December 2020 and had no antibodies then, so I definitely hadn't had it. Had maybe eight PCR tests and been doing lateral flows once a week, never any positives.

My immediate family, 'support bubble' friends and their two kids one in reception and one in childcare, none of them have had it either. Back in March 2020 my sister had classic symptoms but her PCR test was negative, so shrug for that one!

I'm not a denier or anything, just don't have a huge social circle and live in a city that wasn't as hard hit as some other areas. I indirectly know a few people from work/running club, like family members of people I work with etc who have had it.

MyCatDribbles · 10/08/2021 09:49

I know of several people who have had it, though me and my family haven’t to our knowledge.

Though I did have a strange virus in January 2020 which included a dry cough and temp so am wondering whether I was one of the first bunch in the U.K. to get it

Freshprincess · 10/08/2021 09:51

As far as I know I haven’t.
I had an awful cough that lasted for weeks in Jan/Feb 2020, but I think that was too early for it to be covid.

Ive had two family members with it, one caught it right at the beginning the other in the post Christmas wave.

It didn’t really hit my friends circle till Nov and Dec last year.

Bells3032 · 10/08/2021 09:51

there have been 6.09m cases of covid registered in the UK so assume still 50m+ people who haven't had it (accounting for some non-reports).

No one in my family has had it yet (but due to vulnerable family members we are all extremely cautious) but virtually everyone in my DH's family has had it.

I'm not sure if I had it very early on (Dec 19-Jan 20) as i had the most horrific symptoms to the point my DH wanted to take me to the hospital cos the cough was leaving me struggling to breathe. Obv didn't know about covid then. I work in an area with high levels of chinese tourism so who knows.

Loudestcat14 · 10/08/2021 09:53

I know quite a few friends who've had it and I'll be amazed if we haven't had it too, but been asymptomatic, as my DP is a primary school teacher and our DC is at secondary.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 10/08/2021 09:54

I have it at the moment, I’m just at the tail end of it now thank god. I got through 18 months of working in a school, up close and personal with 60 4-5 year olds on a daily basis with no PPE, travelling to work on public transport every day, then I go and bloody well catch it in the middle of the summer holidays when I’ve hardly been anywhere or seen anyone. What are the chances?!

Dghgcotcitc · 10/08/2021 09:57

The majority! There were at one point saying maybe as many as 80 percent had so 20 percent haven’t we def haven’t reached 50 percent who have had it though! (Ancadotally far more people I know haven’t had it than have!)

reprehensibleme · 10/08/2021 09:59

Don't know anyone who's had it. I think it makes a difference not having school age children in the family.

BentBastard · 10/08/2021 10:09

I haven't and no one in my household has had it. We also haven't ever been close contact of anyone whose had it, never had to isolate.

I think we've been lucky, especially me as I work in a school and have been shopping and errand running for isolators and shielders throughout.

HSHorror · 10/08/2021 10:19

At least 13 people linked to dc school have had it now. Obviously they dont say who though but thats still 400 uninfected maybe

Jurassicparkinajug · 10/08/2021 10:26

We will never know because a lot of people had symptoms before the testing was available and a lot will be asymptomatic.
Most of my friends have had it. I also work in a hospital and there are hardly any staff who haven't had it and so many of us have ongoing symptoms.

GCAcademic · 10/08/2021 10:32

I know quite a few people (students) who have had it asymptomatically. They only knew they had it because they are doing twice-weekly LFTs. I'm sure that more people aren't doing regular LFTs than are.

gardeninggirl68 · 10/08/2021 10:38

Nobody in my house has

4 adults, mixture of retail/cater/nhs
And 1 school kid

I've been maskless working with gen public all the way through.

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 10/08/2021 10:47

I haven't had it, have been back in the office since September of last year. Husband and one son still at home and neither have had it. My youngest son who lives in Belfast just recently had it, caught it off his girlfriend who caught it off someone she works with.

DaisyWaldron · 10/08/2021 10:50

I haven't it. I was asked to do an antibody test a few weeks ago, do I know that for sure. Very few people I know had it until recently, but in the past two month two work colleagues, one family member and several friends and their families have been ill. They have mostly been people in their teens or twenties, or have caught it from a household member of that age.

HelloMissus · 10/08/2021 12:07

I’m pretty sure I haven’t because I’ve had to do tons of tests for work.
