AIBU to be so upset with my parents?

My parents have been very paranoid and scared about covid all the way through. Now they are both double jabbed, they are back to enjoying life as normal.

They saw a family member yesterday who has tested positive today.

They are staying away in a staffed holiday home by the coast at the moment, and have friends coming to stay with them Weds-Sunday. After news of the positive test, I expected that they would come home/cancel their friends but they have decided to stay on, and their friends have also said they are still going to come to stay. The staff are also apparently happy to stay working. They have restaurant bookings too but "will only be eating outside".

AIBU to think they are being totally irresponsible and selfish? Or am I being OTT?

If they get contacted by track and trace they are legally required to isolate, until then they are being irresponsible but not illegal

OhNoNoNoNoNo · 04/08/2021 08:17

Are they at least getting tested?

amiactuallybeingunreasonable · 04/08/2021 08:19

@Holly60

YANBU particularly because you say they were so cautious prior to getting their own jabs, but now they are ok, they don’t mind putting others at risk. I’ve seen this in my personal life and it’s really stuck in my craw.

I bet before they were jabbed they were doing a lot of hand wringing about people breaking rules and how irresponsible that was, and being very judgemental. Now they personally are safe, sod everyone else!

This is EXACTLY it.

I too am double jabbed and have Long Covid after having had Covid in April 2030.

When?? Will we still be discussing this on 2030?? GrinGrinGrin

SophieB100 · 04/08/2021 08:29

Are you parents doing daily LFTs OP? They should be.

golddustwomen · 04/08/2021 08:44

I think they are being very selfish too.

I'm 28, had my first jab in June, currently my household has Covid and it really isn't like any other virus I've ever had. I feel awful and it's coming in waves, one day I will feel better then the next it floors me again. It's horrible, my 7 year old has been really quite poorly too.

Quarantino · 04/08/2021 08:52

It's really selfish as regardless of whether they get really ill or not there is quite a high chance they are passing it to everyone around them. The responsible thing to do would be to lay low and do rapid tests for a while/ a pcr test if any symptoms.

Bobholll · 04/08/2021 09:18

The OPs parents haven’t tested positive. They are close contacts. In two weeks, they don’t have to isolated& will instead be encouraged to do LFTs. But at the moment, there is no suggestion this will be a legal requirement. Just rather, you should test. I imagine that’ll quickly stop happening for most people 🤷🏼‍♀️

sadperson16 · 04/08/2021 10:08

Do you honestly think this nonsense is achieving anything?
The government are a joke. The minute Cummings had his eye test it was all over.
I don't have the App. I get on with my life.

YarnOver · 04/08/2021 11:07

In a couple weeks this is the rules for double jabbed adults. YABU

Oh god please no!
ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2021 11:11

Even when it’s legal I hope a number of people will be sensible if they have had close contact with a positive person, and minimise contact with other people.

If DS tested positive I am sure I wouldn’t be rushing off to see my elderly DM for hours indoors (even if we are both double jabbed)

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2021 11:13

@sadperson16 why did you take the actions of one idiot to think that you wanted to follow their actions. If I see someone being an idiot I wouldn’t follow them

sadperson16 · 04/08/2021 12:33

That idiot was pontificating and telling us about rules.
The idiot and the buffoon the continued to lie and apply double standards.
Therefore many people decided to weigh up the damage being done to their MH against the threat of Covid and some decided to get one with their lives before it's too bloody late.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/08/2021 12:49

@Reallybadidea

What they're doing will still be against the rules in 2 weeks because they'd be expected to have a negative pcr test in order to avoid self-isolation.
I'm sure I read somewhere that would be recommended but not mandatory.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/08/2021 12:50

Sorry, was likely to be be recommended but not mandatory

lljkk · 04/08/2021 19:42

Your parents ABU to tell you so much about their lives & choices. You don't like knowing.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 05/08/2021 13:44

@sunnymoo You will have heard that 60% statistic from Patrick Vallance who later had to correct himself and say that he meant 60% of admissions were from UNVACCINATED rather than DOUBLE vaccinated people. And of course as PPs have said if 100% of people had had the jab then 100% of hospitalisations would be from double vaccinated people. What really matters is total admissions.

What do you mean by a staffed holiday home ? Is it a hotel or self catering ?
