Any one half vaccinated got the delta variant?

Has anyone caught this while only half vaccinated? What were your symptoms?

OP posts:
SpringheelJack · 01/08/2021 08:43

Yep! I had chesty cough and very stuffy head-cold type symptoms at first. Then a couple of days tired and shivery. DH was double jabbed, also had it, but definitely milder symptoms.

Handsnotwands · 01/08/2021 08:44

A group of 5 of us have got it currently (assumed delta, no one actually tells you)

We’ve all been affected to various degrees, some double jabbed, some single, one not at all

The single and double jabbed have been similarly unwell, that is not very, heavy cold like symptoms for 4/5 days but mostly ok

The not at all jabbed one has been the illest

Remmy123 · 01/08/2021 08:46

How does anyone know if it's a delta variant? Who tells you that?

cherin · 01/08/2021 08:48

Nobody tells you the variant. But as it’s now the dominant one (I believe it’s around 95% of the cases?) it is the general assumption that if you catch it, that’s the one you get?

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/08/2021 09:05

I did (assuming delta as the most dominant variant). Mine started with sore throat and moved quickly to mild cough, runny/blocked nose, change of sense of smell, loss of appetite, and tiredness.

I have a very similar situation and the same anecdata.

I got it a few days after my second jab. Mostly been fine but randomly had to take Days 9 and 10 off sick from work (I wfh) and I am virtually NEVER off sick. Awful headache, mostly. And very tired.

My isolation ended at 23.59 Friday but I had a faint positive on a LFT yesterday so I didn't go to the thing I was meant to go to (tbh, I didn't fancy socialising anyway).

Symptoms originally started with a very mild fever and a bit of a cough. Friends have been far worse than me. One had to call 999 in the last few days due to a fit/couldn't breathe.

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/08/2021 09:14

@IsabellesMissingSock
Not sure if you know, but it's not advised to take an lft for 12 weeks after a positive case as it can show up as positive despite you having recovered and no longer infectious.

Thank you! I thought that guidance was PCR only. I have a friend who's in the medical profession who said that a positive LFT indicates active virus and therefore still technically contagious (although probably very unlikely to actually infect anyone at this stage).

Yeah, obviously I can't be certain; I'm making an assumption based on the dominance of that strain at the end of June when we got it, and also based on the symptoms, which were phlegmy cough and runny nose, which isn't typical of the earlier variants - despite government's reluctance to update their symptom list. 🙄

Yeah I asked on another post how you can tell which variant. I think the general assumption is that it's delta these days as it's the dominant one.
Summersdreaming · 01/08/2021 10:08

Me and DP - he had vomiting, diarrhoea, aches, chills, loss of smell and taste and a cough.

I had runny nose, sneezing, coughing, sore throat, fatigue.

We had it beginning of July and I'm still knackered, but my wisdom tooth started playing up towards the end of isolation then I got an ear infection this week so I think my immune system is battered at the minute - before July I haven't been ill since way before covid.

Lupinhere37 · 01/08/2021 10:45

My colleague has ( well, presumably Delta) She has so far just had a one day feeling of a heavy cold which in reality lasted only 12 hours or so. Totally fine after that.

Cherir20 · 01/08/2021 11:52

Thanks it looks like one jab doesn’t offer much protection then which is worrying! I have seen posts on here saying people have been informed they have the delta variant when there swab was sent to a lab. But like others have said it’s probably because it’s the dominant strain now they just ‘presume’ it’s that one rather than testing

My PCR results email didn't tell me what variant I had.

The thing is you've no idea how someone would fair with no vaccine compared to one dose. There's a huge variance in how ill people get. So it's very difficult to judge how much protection one vaccine is giving just by asking people how they felt when they had it - there's no way to compare that person's susceptibility after one dose compared to none. The stats across the population suggest one dose is doing something - but it's a new variant, in a population with a level of immunity we didn't have for the first few waves - so very hard to meaningfully compare!

Yes agreed. I had it (still have it?) very mild compared to my non-jabbed friends, but I was still quite surprised at how bad I felt - prior to this, I'd had one day off sick in 8 years - I'm so rarely ill and never to the point of having to take time off. Who knows how bad it would have been if I hadn't had my jabs? Will never know! I like to think the jabs helped despite the fact that when I got it I was only a few days past my second jab.
ScabbyHorse · 01/08/2021 14:20

Yeah. Symptoms are sore throat, sore joints, runny nose, headache, fatigue, loss of smell and taste.

OrangeBananaFish · 01/08/2021 14:28

I tested positive 2 weeks ago so I can only assume it was Delta.

I got headache and felt tired on the sunday afternoon. Woke up around 2AM Monday morning feeling like I had a really bad flu - bad headache, sore throat and achy back muscles. Booked a PCR for 9AM that day, it came back positive on the Tuesday.

Thursday I lost my sense of smell. Last saturday I tested negative (LFT - assumed it was false, but tested negative on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday). I'm still getting headaches, but painkillers have helped (although not taken them away completely)

I've had one jab (AZ), was due my second last weekend, but have had to cancel until I wait until 28 days after my positive PCR.

DH has had both jabs and was just as ill as me, but I am a keen runner and love the gym (have done for years) and DH is a proper couch potato who is a lot more overweight than me.

Burtknowsbest · 01/08/2021 14:29

Isn’t it amazing, I read this thread and thought the opposite; that one jab seems to be doing quite well at staving off serious infection- admittedly a small sample

Darbs76 · 01/08/2021 16:07

I have Covid - not sure what variant but assuming the delta. My 2 teens have it too. All started with a headache. DS was coughing same day as headache started and had a high temp and pretty groggy for 2 days. Then recovered (bar coughing for a week). I got it next, headache for 3 days before lateral positive. I still have headache over 2wks later, and still feel really crap. Fatigue, headache and just feel like I’ve got a weird lurgy! Hard to describe. Dd (13) had a headache and a bit of a cold for 2 days and tested positive, she didn’t catch it until day 10. She’s had no symptoms since

Darbs76 · 01/08/2021 16:08

Sorry should have added I’m not half vaccinated but double jabbed. Dread to think how unwell i’d be if no jabs. Kids not jabbed at all

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 01/08/2021 16:12

Teenage family member had it after 1 dose of Pfizer and was very poorly, in bed for a week. Symptoms: high temperature, really bad cold, loss of taste and smell about 5 days in, followed by a cough- assume it was Delta as it was in a delta hotspot.

enoughforme · 01/08/2021 19:45

Yes, all of them. All the Covid symptoms I had - headache, loss of taste and smell, hot sweats the lot

Dogoodfeelgood · 01/08/2021 19:49

Not sure what variant but I’ve had one jab and caught covid. Was bedridden for two days, just felt so so weak and nauseous. Complete loss of taste and smell (horrifying and scary symptom), very anxious as well (I think that was the lack of senses, quite disorienting). I am day 14 since exposure and day 7 since symptoms started and am feeling well enough to catch up on some work this evening, and have the faintest faintest sense of smell which I am blissfully grateful for and hoping will continue to improve!

Dogoodfeelgood · 01/08/2021 19:50

My partner is double jabbed and only symptom is smell loss and slight fever. I wish I was in the double jab boat but they wouldn’t give it to me until 12 weeks, which is next week haha.
