Have you had the delta variant

And you are unvaccinated? I’m going through an internal battle to prepare myself to go get this vaccine but in the meantime I just need to know what getting delta while unvaccinated is like? I suffer from anxiety and something which someone said yesterday has resulted in me having panic attacks after almost 18 months- is it really bad? Did you end up in the hospital? I’m 40 and no known underlying issues

I currently have covid but no symptoms. 41 double jabbed.
Dh 29 1 jab also has it and feels quite rough, achey and has lost his smell.
I'm glad I've had the vaccination and would urge you to get it done.

PrettyBlunt · 24/07/2021 15:40

What did the person say exactly?

Hamnetssister · 24/07/2021 15:41

I have it now. One jab, aged 41. I have a tight chest, burning lungs and keep sneezing. It’s early on in the infection so too soon to tell. I was meant to get my second jab but then had to isolate. I would get the jab.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 24/07/2021 15:46

I'm nearly 40 and have just had my second vaccination. Honestly, if you are an anxious person, I would just get on with it- Covid is still shit and if you catch it while you are unvaccinated, there is a definite chance you could be hospitalised and become seriously ill. Just think of all those people in India who didn't have the chance to get a vaccine and ended up with Delta, gasping for breath and dying in the streets. You are so luck to have the opportunity to be vaccinated - just do it.

Katya213 · 24/07/2021 15:56

My nephews best friend, a healthy 23 year old lad has been admitted to hospital last night with covid, unvaccinated. The problem with covid is, you just never know how it will affect you. Most people are okay with it though.

MrsCherryBakewell · 24/07/2021 15:59

I'm 41, no underlying health issues, not overweight. I caught covid a couple of months ago, days before I was due to have my first vaccination. I spent over a week in bed struggling with my breathing and worrying that I would end up in hospital. It took over a month to feel anything close to normal. I know of a few people (some of whom have serious underlying health issues) who have caught it recently having had both vaccinations, symptoms have been a few days feeling out sorts. Have the vaccination, it's a no brainier.

VaccineAnxiety · 24/07/2021 16:17

@PrettyBlunt that I’ll end up ventilated or dead -

OP posts:
VaccineAnxiety · 24/07/2021 16:18

@MrsCherryBakewell yes I need to get on with it - I wish I knew how.

OP posts:
VaccineAnxiety · 24/07/2021 16:19

@MrsCherryBakewell glad you are better now

MrsCherryBakewell · 24/07/2021 16:23

Thank you. Honestly just book it and get someone to go with you if it's causing anxiety. The injection itself is done with before you even know it. And any side effects are a walk in the park compared to covid.

The chances of any serious side effects are so minimal, you're in far more danger from so many other things you probably do every day without even thinking about it.

AlexaShutUp · 24/07/2021 16:25

OP, nobody can tell you what covid would be like for you. You could get a completely asymptomatic case, you could end up ventilated or dead, or just about anything in between. I understand that you're anxious about getting the jab, but you're anxious anyway, so you might as well protect yourself as much as you can. The risks from covid are significantly higher than any risks posed by the vaccine.

Just get it and then hopefully you can stop torturing yourself over it.

VaccineAnxiety · 24/07/2021 16:25

@MrsCherryBakewell I just cannot get the blood clots/menstrual issues out of my head/

I don’t want Pfizer or moderne as they are too new

I will have to go for AZ

OP posts:
JustAWalkingTalkingCotBed · 24/07/2021 16:29

@VaccineAnxiety AZ is the one that kills people with blood clots, Pfizer is safer. Hmm

VaccineAnxiety · 24/07/2021 16:31

@JustAWalkingTalkingCotBed yes I understand that hence my heightened sense of anxiety but I cannot bring myself to get a brand new vaccine without knowing the long term effects

OP posts:
Glitterandunicorns · 24/07/2021 16:35

@VaccineAnxiety I don't think you will have any choice in which vaccination you get. I am 40 and got AZ but I did so right before they decided to stop using it for those under the age of 40.
My understanding is that it also depends on your medical history and any medications you also take. You will not just be able to choose which one you want based on your perceptions of safety.

I have had more period pain in two periods following my vaccinations. It has been bearable with a hot water bottle.

The NHS has advised that all vaccination options are perfectly safe and will not affect fertility or pregnancy.

Please get vaccinated. If nothing else, it helps to protect others who are medically unable to.

IsabellesMissingSock · 24/07/2021 16:37

How do you know which variant you have? I have covid now but no clue what type. Or is it the case that it's a pretty safe assumption that most cases now are delta?

Either way, I have had both jabs (one only 3 days after when I think I picked up covid) and tested positive on Wednesday. So far at least, I feel almost fine, have been able to work (I wfh) etc. Today I feel a bit off colour, like the start or end of a cold. But nothing too bad. 3 of my friends got it at same time (out of 5 of us), 2 not jabbed at all and feeling a lot worse than me, one having had one jab and not feeling great either.

VaccineAnxiety · 24/07/2021 16:43

@IsabellesMissingSock did your unjabbed friends require hospital support? Im guessing they are the same age as me?

I was going to ask this. DS has Covid at the mo but I can’t see anything in the messages we’ve had which says which variant it is. Hope you’re not too bad with it.

OP - the vaccine itself is fine, I’m rubbish with things like that and barely felt it. I can’t speak for the long-term after effects obv but after a day feeling flu-ey I’ve been fine (this was a-z).

IsabellesMissingSock · 24/07/2021 16:48

One of them was thinking of calling 111 due to breathing difficulties. Not sure if he did in the end - he's not replied to my message.

Thank you :) I've been about 85%+ fine throughout. Very mild tickly cough. Very mild temperature (but still within normal range for adults). Feel slightly below par today but am more than able to function and I think it's partly due to the fact that I'm just sitting in, with limited distractions. In fact I only tested due to my friends' symptoms. The one girl who seems to have escaped entirely was double jabbed some time ago. All anecdata obviously, but in my small group, the ones who have had the jab are feeling so much better than those who either haven't had it or have had just one.
VaccineAnxiety · 24/07/2021 17:29

@Glitterandunicorns I’ve checked walk in centres and they do tell you which ones they have on specific days- I know the centre I tried going into yesterday was doing AZ- but I don’t get past the car park

Summersdreaming · 24/07/2021 18:43

You're threads are worrying, both your anxiety levels and the coercion you are under. Vaccinated or not, covid seems quite random - I know a 30 year old in hospital now, I'm 29 and worked from home for 10 days, no worse than a cold. I've had the vaccine mostly to make travelling easier, but you need to try and separate your own anxiety from the reality, and look at your husband's actions too, before you make a decision.

Glitterandunicorns · 24/07/2021 20:20

OP, I don't know about your other thread but another poster has mentioned you're experiencing coercion. Are you ok? Is someone else trying to force you to get/ not get a vaccine?
Is there anyone in real life who you can speak to about this? Thanks

Cookerhood · 24/07/2021 20:30

The OP has had multiple threads where she says she is too scared to get the vaccine & "knows" it will kill her but that she's also scared of Covid. Nothing anyone can say on here will help her & she needs to step away from constantly asking for reassurance & validation on mumsnet, it's not helping.
OP I don't mean to be harsh, but you have to stop this. Get some help for your crippling anxiety.

Op, cooker is right - and HQ gave said the same. Step away from MN and seek support. All the best Flowers
