Second vaccine abroad - doesn’t ‘count’ here?

A friend of DS’s is travelling back from the States. She had her first jab in the UK and her second there. She thinks that Scottish rules on isolation mean that she will have to quarantine for the full 10 days - the ‘no quarantine’ rule only applies if you’ve had both jabs via the NHS. Does anyone know if this is correct? It seems ridiculous if so - a jab is a jab, surely?

I think it probably is, which is crazy.

Caspianberg · 24/07/2021 11:50

Yes it’s both on Nhs only. I have had x2 Pfizer in Europe, and therefore have to quarantine when we travel back to uk. Makes no sense

mamakoukla · 24/07/2021 11:54

Residency in the UK is also a requirement, in addition to being NHS vaccinated… hoping it changes. Two elderly and ill relatives but two weeks quarantine is expensive and a long time for people with short holiday allowances of two weeks annually…..

haggisaggis · 24/07/2021 11:57

There are stories online of students having one jab in Scotland and 2nd in England and because the data is stored separately by each nation they need to quarantine when travelling in / out of UK. Crazy.

daisypond · 24/07/2021 11:59

My DD had two jabs abroad and they don’t count here. It gives me the rage when I hear stats about young people not getting the jab. Mine has been double vaccinated but that fact can’t be registered.

Sorry, this is for Scotland! Yes, NHS vaccinations required for exemption from quarantine

Wilkolampshade · 24/07/2021 14:39

@haggisaggis is right, my DD being one of them. She's double jabbed, 1st in Scotland second in England, and the systems don't align so 'computer says no', basically.

Geamhradh · 24/07/2021 14:58

Yep. I'm double vaxxed in Italy and can't come to the UK without quarantining for 10 days.

SpringRainbow · 24/07/2021 15:02

I have heard similar as well, it makes no sense whatsoever to me.

Surely two jabs is two jabs, wherever you had them.

One of my dcs is in this position. Is trying to get jab 1 added to record, but currently debating plan b which is getting a third vax in England which will show as a second jab on their vax passport Hmm
Wilkolampshade · 24/07/2021 15:45

@titchy yes, that's DD's plan b too. She only just had her second so we have a few weeks to wait then will start trying walk-ins. Her English jab appears as jab 2 on the app (which it is) - but there's no jab 1.... don't know how it'll go down at the centre...

daisypond · 24/07/2021 16:17

Mine is wondering about getting double-vaccinated all over again from scratch. Which seems insane, as well as wasteful.

Wilkolampshade · 24/07/2021 16:33

@daisypond so frustrating! She did pretty much everything she was supposed to do, got f' teaching in the last year and a half (for full fees of course) the uni made the dept library pretty much impossible to use as she tried to write her dissertation, she trots happily off to get her first vax and now this.....
When her and her friends talk about it all they're so angry and cynical. Really sad to see.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 24/07/2021 17:02

Same with my daughter. She has had two doses in U.S. and will be coming back in the next couple of months. Those vaccines won't 'count'. What is she supposed to do? Have an NHS vaccine? What a waste!

caughtinanet · 24/07/2021 17:07

Wasn't this asked about atone of the press conferences? I think they said they were working on some kind of system but it's rife for abuse so while it's really tough for individuals I can see why it's being done in the way it is.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 24/07/2021 17:36

That's pretty conclusive - thank you everyone. I agree it's utterly mad.

Under 18s no quarantine, Will the international boarding students included?

PrimeraVez · 25/07/2021 03:26

We’ve all had two Pfizer jabs but aren’t allowed to fly to the UK from the UAE without completing hotel quarantine. I would love to come ‘home’ for a long weekend to see my very elderly (and dying) grandfather but because a) the UAE is red listed and b) my jabs aren’t recognised, by the time I’ve factored in quarantine, I’m too close to my due date to be able to travel.

It’s been nearly two years since I have seen any of my family Sad

RainbowCrayons · 25/07/2021 06:00

I keep hearing rumors in the press that they are working on accepting vaccines from other countries. I hope so because I live and work and was vaccinated abroad and agree its a pain.

@MiddleAgedLurker sadly it’s meaningless. The abroad jabs have to be registered with you British Gp. Which of course you don’t have if you have been living out of the Uk for any length of time. It’s a total farce.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 26/07/2021 21:24

Ah - that may be the saving of DS’s friend. She has dual nationality but has lived in the UK all her life and was just visiting family in the US when she got her second jab

OP posts:
daisypond · 26/07/2021 21:49

It doesn’t help my DD, sadly.

RainbowCrayons · 27/07/2021 06:17

It doesn't help us either. If you live abroad you're meant to deregister with your GP I thought?!?
