Reasons why the vaccine causing delayed periods does matter

How come the rare heart condition manifesting in young males after the vaccine is getting listed as a side effect, but delayed periods aren’t?

Even if delayed periods aren’t really harmful in the long run, some women have chronic conditions such as endometriosis and PCOS that affect periods and cannot take the pill. I am one of them. The pill makes me suicidal. Some women such as me are scared of symptom exacerbation from the vaccine. For example I don’t want the vaccine until I know for sure the lack of periods is simply
because of the immune response temporarily suppressing them. I am scared of more endometriosis building up in my body and being even more clueless as to what is going on in there. For other women who have very regular periods, a missed period could be distressing and make them think of pregnancy etc. If the vaccines effect of delaying periods was investigated more and made into more common knowledge, women would know what to expect.

Those concerned about the vaccine’s affect on the menstrual cycle aren’t necessarily conspiracy theorists who think it’s all designed to depopulate the world. That’s a misogynistic thing to think.

Women like me are not conspiracy theorists or idiots. It is not fair to mock us and our concerns. Not everybody is a virologist. How are things meant to be found if nobody raises concern? All we want is for the effect on the menstrual cycle to be properly acknowledged, explained and listed as a side effect. We aren’t expecting the world.

The number of reports of menstrual disorders and vaginal bleeding is low in relation to both the number of females who have received COVID-19 vaccines to date and how common menstrual disorders are generally

This is the issue. I'm concerned that they're thinking that because, say, 20% of women ordinarily have irregular periods, that at least 20% need to report irregular periods after vaccination for it to be significant. This is like saying that because 20% of the population ordinarily suffers from bowel issues, it's not significant if 10% suffer food poisoning after eating at one particular restaurant. Because reports of diarrhoea are "low in relation to how common bowel problems are generally".

The better way to look at it, and what I hope they're doing, is to compare firstly the chances of a women developing period problems in the 3 months after the vaccine, and the chances of any individual woman developing new period problems in a 3 month period without having been vaccinated. They also need to take into account the nature of these reports. It's common for any kind of period issue to be lumped under a single umbrella. Just like there's a world of difference between severe, acute diarrhoea and occasional loose stools, there's a big difference between a woman whose period is a bit all over the place and a women who loses her period for several months without a known cause. But both seem to be lumped together as "irregular periods".

Does anyone know the make up of the group for the medical trail of each vaccine? Or what they were checking during them.

I'm not even sure you can find that out. I'm a bit vague here as I can recall the facts but Im sure when tested (drugs in general) the effects of female exclusively isn't recorded (or monitored) be cause female hormonal fluctuations make results more variable or difficult.

I'm annoyed now I can't recall where I read this to relay the wording of it clearer

LavenderAskew · 23/07/2021 06:46

To be clearer what I mean is females are underrepresented in all clinical trials. This is a recognised fact. This results in (among other thimgs) the listed side effects being weighted to side effects in males.

[quote canigooutyet]It does need to be properly investigated.
How many blokes have said after having the vaccine that their sperm has been effected?
But yet the sperm trials started last year

Sorry badly worded - trials examining gynaecological effects

Sperm, btw, is much easier to test

The Miami research project linked above is going over ground already explored and with good quality results shown.

I have yet to find any studies on erectioe dysfunction - that seems to be consigned to the 'anecdote/it happens sometimes/no urgency' basket too

I last had a period on the 3rd of May. 2nd AZ jab on the 29th of May & no bleeding since.

I track my periods absolutely & have done since my youngest was born 4 years ago. I am well aware when something changes.

It's been 11 weeks 4 days with no bleeding.

I hate the constant worrying when a bleed will be too. Always having a pad with me, every time I feel a twinge in my tummy thinking 'This is it'... Constantly checking toilet roll whenever I have a wee, worrying where a toilet is if I'm out & get 'a feeling', being scared to go swimming/not wanting to book swimming in case that's the day it happens.

Periods affect our daily lives & agree with others, this is just another thing where women are being told they don't matter.

TheSockMonster · 23/07/2021 07:40

It does matter. Women like me who have menstrual migraines and regular periods book meetings, events and holidays months and months ahead in order take advantage of our pain-free weeks.

I did read that some doctors think the point in your cycle when you have your vaccine might make a difference. Both of mine were mid-cycle and both caused a week’s delay. I was very ill after the first, but only mild side effects after the second. In response to comments up thread, I am neither overweight nor hysterical Hmm

It would be good if things like that could be properly investigated. Lots of women use period tracking apps like Clue. Think of how much soft data is already out there.
