Reasons why the vaccine causing delayed periods does matter

How come the rare heart condition manifesting in young males after the vaccine is getting listed as a side effect, but delayed periods aren’t?

Even if delayed periods aren’t really harmful in the long run, some women have chronic conditions such as endometriosis and PCOS that affect periods and cannot take the pill. I am one of them. The pill makes me suicidal. Some women such as me are scared of symptom exacerbation from the vaccine. For example I don’t want the vaccine until I know for sure the lack of periods is simply
because of the immune response temporarily suppressing them. I am scared of more endometriosis building up in my body and being even more clueless as to what is going on in there. For other women who have very regular periods, a missed period could be distressing and make them think of pregnancy etc. If the vaccines effect of delaying periods was investigated more and made into more common knowledge, women would know what to expect.

Those concerned about the vaccine’s affect on the menstrual cycle aren’t necessarily conspiracy theorists who think it’s all designed to depopulate the world. That’s a misogynistic thing to think.

Women like me are not conspiracy theorists or idiots. It is not fair to mock us and our concerns. Not everybody is a virologist. How are things meant to be found if nobody raises concern? All we want is for the effect on the menstrual cycle to be properly acknowledged, explained and listed as a side effect. We aren’t expecting the world.

And to add, even if somebody is worried about their fertility, how does mockery help? It’s all well and good listing old articles that state how it’s fine but this is a new vaccine and being ignored does not reassure them.

Also a correction, people with endo and PCOS can take the pill but some can’t for other reasons. I phrased that badly

This is what's worrying me I have endometriosis, I have endometriomas on both ovaries. I just want some reassurance or knowledge that the vaccine is not going to exacerbate my symptoms.

reannneeee · 21/07/2021 19:17

@Liamandlee
Very sorry to hear you’re going through the same thing.

It’s so upsetting when people mock our concerns and don’t take us seriously.

It is because it is a women's health issue and therefore of no importance. It is just women making a fuss again. That's the way it's always been.

If men were reporting issues around ED it would be investigated immediately.

AfternoonToffee · 21/07/2021 19:21

(BTW I am not mocking you there, but as an issue that only effects the pesky women it is of little importance. Health care is centred around those with male bodies)

BaronessBomburst · 21/07/2021 19:25

I had the opposite problem My period started the same day as my 1st vaccine. I started spotting on day 11, then had a really heavy week-long period starting on day 17. The cramps were so bad I had constant diarrhea and I had terrible headaches the whole time. I reported it but no-one was interested.
I had my second jab today and I really hope it doesn't happen again.

reannneeee · 21/07/2021 19:29

@AfternoonToffee.

I agree. Spot on.

@BaronessBomburst

That is equally as valid a side effect

I found lots of reports online of women having similar symptoms, including on here. And also being ignored. It is definitely affecting monthly cycles/ hormone levels/ something.

megletthesecond · 21/07/2021 19:37

Because it's only the women speaking about it.

minatrina · 21/07/2021 19:41

Yep - this is a manifestation of having a male-dominated health system and male-dominated academia.

I have read old studies indicating that period irregularities have been seen to occur with much older vaccines too, suggesting it's just something that happens when your immune system is reacting to something. But these studies are few and far between, I can't believe how infrequently studied it is (well, I can believe it. But it's just terrible imo).

HSHorror · 21/07/2021 19:42

1 covid seems to affect periods too.
2 pcos makes you higher risk it's just not on the lists
3 the vax effect could be to do with making antibodies
4 pcos often mean people are overweight

Stroller15 · 21/07/2021 19:45

It is very concerning. My cycle was much shorter after Pfizer, it was always very regular. If I was TTC, I would be concerned. I suppose we can only keep posting about it and encouraging reporting.

sunlight81 · 21/07/2021 20:12

My period was 20days late after the moderna vac ... 20DAYS on a 26day regular as clockwork cycle!!! WTAF!!

I have 5 kids with three of these under 3.. I was mentally preparing for a termination which would have been one of the most horrific things I could ever think of doing.

My (male) GP laughed off any relationship to the vax ... I did suggest that he did a little more research beyond the back of the Vax packet. Not sure it went down to well Confused

Spyro1234 · 21/07/2021 20:40

What's worrying is that the Yellow Card scheme has thousands of side effects being reported, but no one is mentioning this on the news - or analysing and investigating the data?

I don't think it's just misogyny, I have a bad feeling in general about this all now .... I've had both doses of my vaccine.

There are interesting articles in the UK Column

duffeldaisy · 21/07/2021 20:41

Neither shot (AZ) affected my periods at all, they stayed regular, and I had both shortly after finishing bleeding for that month.
If it's just because your body is responding and making antibodies, then it might be worth trying to time the jabs close to the end of your period, if it's an issue?

The times my periods have skipped one, or come very late have always been when I'm having a particularly stressful or anxious time normally. Is it possible that some people are affected because of the rise in stress levels, rather than anything to do with the actual vaccine?

Bubbean · 21/07/2021 20:47

My period was brought on a week early by the first moderna vaccine. I’m always 28 day cycle without fail... even when I’ve gone through bereavements, extreme stress at work, depression. I do not buy that they ‘stress’ of the vaccine brought my period early. I’m 39...I’ve had periods for 25 years. I know my cycles!! It was the vaccine.
Getting my second vaccine this week and at the beginning of my cycle... hoping it will help Confused

BaronessBomburst · 21/07/2021 20:49

Yes, I read that many women have been told that it's the stress that's caused the irregularities.
But honestly, if the whole lockdown scenario, not seeing my family in over a year, DH being made redundant, and my own work having a total restructuring and changng my hours and work pattern didn't affect my cycle, how come popping out in my lunch break did? Hmm
If it is that our bodies are responding and making antibodies, then why don't they just explain that and warn us then?

Walkaround · 21/07/2021 21:03

There’s nothing that f*cking stressful about an injection. It’s not emotional stress causing it the vast majority of the time.

IsThisAkissingBook · 21/07/2021 21:08

I had just finished my period when I had my first jab in may. I started bleeding again a week later very heavy then no more bleeding. I had my second jab yesterday and woke up bleeding heavily today.

PurpleMustang · 21/07/2021 21:24

I have the depo injection and as a usual rule 2 weeks before the end of the 12 week cycle I will bleed. 1st vaccine AZ, was fine. Had the 2nd one 3 weeks before would expect bleeding, 5 weeks before end of cycle and it has just happened so 5 weeks later than due, 3 weeks after end of my 12 week cycle. That has never happened before. I'm not on for theories etc but it obviously does seem to possibly have some effect. I am hoping that everything will right itself before the end of this cycle.

user1471443411 · 21/07/2021 21:39

Yes can't understand why they aren't looking into this more, there are so many reports on here and other places and it is really annoying the way it is fobbed off as stress or coincidence. Not just with the vaccine but covid too, lots of reports of eratic periods, mine were all over the place after covid last March and stopped completely after my first jab in May.

Dollpiglet · 21/07/2021 21:42

I haven't had a period for 3 years due to pregnancy and breastfeeding and since having pfizer I've flooded for 2 weeks, then spotted for 2 weeks, then flooded again etc etc - so far I've been bleeding for 9 weeks. The flooding is horrendous - I have been (sorry TMI) sat on the toilet and it's like I'm having a full on - I've drunk 3 pints of water in a row - wee, but it's just blood pouring out of me. I'm lucky I work from home because I can't actually leave the house as I've needed to change my pad every 20 mins (and that's with an ultra tampon too). I feel exhausted by it. DH has had to take over school runs and going out with DC.

I would probably get the jab again but I wish someone had warned me this would happen. I've just had my second jab and i'm praying it will calm down in a few weeks.

SwampGirl · 21/07/2021 21:55

The MHRA is in a mess at the moment, due to Brexit, and civil service pay cuts and recruitment freezes, so they probably don’t have time to process the yellow cards very quickly at the moment.

longtompot · 21/07/2021 22:21

I agree @reannneeee It would be nice to be listened to. I have been bleeding since my first vaccine (AZ) back in April and had my second one end of June. I'm under gynae for other issues, but after a horrendous day I phoned and am hoping to be seen sooner than they planned. I have yellow carded my symptoms but no idea if it's been taken note of.
I do wonder though if this is more the case it's the heart so a worry if there are long term affects with it then it could be life limiting, and not so much a it's affecting men so quick let's find out what's going on and bugger the women with their menstrual issues?
