Didn’t have second jab, how do I have it now?

Jinnybean · 20/07/2021 14:25

I chickened out of my second jab. It was due around the same time that they stopped giving the Oxford one to under 30s and I was 30.

I had my first in March.

How do I go about getting my second now? Especially if they are saying you have to be doubled jabbed to do anything in the future..

I would have thought you could still get it done at a walk in centre?

Some walk-ins are doing sessions of second AZ. Check you ccg website for locations.

Biancadelrioisback · 20/07/2021 14:28

Can you just book online on the NHS website?

Orf1abc · 20/07/2021 14:28

Just go to a walk in centre or make an appointment online. Your first will be recorded so it will link up.

@Derbee Take your own advice.

You can just rock up at most vaccination centres. Give them your details (if you have a reference number from your first appointment, that would be ideal) and they'll be able to give you your second. Great news with AZ is that it seems a gap will do very little to harm (or maybe even improve) your overall immunity.

RevolvingPivot · 20/07/2021 14:33

Had my second today. The first one I was in for 2 hours waiting. Today they even took walk ins.

CrunchyCarrot · 20/07/2021 14:33

Wow some people are so rude. People have many reasons for not going through with vaccination, the OP is just looking for advice not a lecture.

Lots of places are offering walk ins for 2nd vaccines

Derbee · 20/07/2021 14:36

If the OP wanted ACTUAL ADVICE she would speak to her GP. Nobody knows there the OP lives, what their walk in situation is like etc etc.

SummerHouse · 20/07/2021 14:36

This is my favourite 😂

I was nervous about having my second jab in May but decided I would bite the bullet and have it. Sometimes I think it helps to be a bit fatalistic if it helps psychologically. Glad you have changed your mind.

Scottishgirl85 · 20/07/2021 14:40

You might want to check regarding the long gap between them now

Thiscantreallybehappening · 20/07/2021 14:44

It's probably best to call your GP and explain the situation. I'm not sure if your gap is a lot longer than 12 weeks what happens.

Howcanthisbe123 · 20/07/2021 14:44

That’s a huge gap, surly you will have to start again.

Speak to the doctor

MRex · 20/07/2021 14:47

The good news is that your immunity will probably be stronger for the bigger gap, based on evidence so far. The link above will let you make an appointment, but you may also be able to find a walk-in centre near you by looking at the website for your NHS CCG (the clinical commissioning group for the area). If you or anyone else wants help to find one, just say what local authority you live in and I'll post you a link to walk-ins nearby.

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/07/2021 14:48

Walk in or gov website.around here there are less AZs so you might have to travel further

12 weeks was original gap. From March to now isn’t that much longer. AZ gives better immunity with a bigger gap.

Op you can probably book it through the NHS website. Have you tried that?

sashagabadon · 20/07/2021 14:52

Definitely have your second jab. No one will care that it is “overdue”.

amicissimma · 20/07/2021 14:54

As MRex says, you may have done yourself a favour. A study by Oxford University suggested that a 45 week gap between first and second doses of AZ resulted in substantially greater antibodies. Not practical for most of us who needed to be double-jabbed quicker, but interesting.

I don't think OP is coming across as an anti vaxer idiot at all. She had genuine health concerns regarding the risks of the AZ vaccine.

My mum was offered an appointment at a time that wasn't convenient at the start of the year. She was told if she didn't take the time offered, it would go down she had refused the vaccine!

Rainbowsandstorms · 20/07/2021 14:57

You can book in online or possibly attend a walk in. The AZ actually gives better immunity with a big gap so you’ll still get great protection and the risk re second jabs is much lower than for the first. I waited until the 14 week mark due to wanting to see more data re the second dose risk. It was raised by one centre that I may need to speak to the doctor at the centre if I had a gap greater than 14 weeks. If you have any issues the WHO are advising that a long gap is ok and there are studies showing that a long gap provides better protection.
