Children testing to enter France

EmLJC20 · 20/07/2021 13:47

Sorry I’m more of a reader in the group rather than a poster so hope you don’t mind me asking. Does anyone know if children over 12 need a negative test to enter France. DH and I don’t as double jabbed but I can’t work out if DS covered under our vaccination status or not! The gov site totally contradicts itself!

Anybody know first hand?
Thank you

Children testing to enter France
MirandasMumIsSuchFun · 20/07/2021 13:54

Hi
We are off to Nice on Saturday and children aged 11 or over need a negative PCR or Lat Flow test to go.

If double jabbed no tests are needed to get into the country

InvincibleInvisibility · 20/07/2021 13:57

How are you travelling?

My double jabbed mum took the Eurostar yesterday. No need for negative test to go to France BUT she needed to show a negative test to get into the station (not entirely sure at which point) because of course the Eurostar doesn't just go to France...

She also highly recommends printing off everything cos everyone was very stressed flicking through their phone for the various docs

EmLJC20 · 20/07/2021 14:07

We are flying from Stansted. Gov site wording:

From Sunday 18 July, arrivals aged 12 years old or over are required to present evidence of a negative test (PCR or antigen) taken within 24 hours of departure. Arrivals from most other amber countries will need evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure or an antigen test taken within 48 hours of departure.

Children who are travelling with a fully vaccinated adult will be exempt from requirements to present a negative test result, self-isolate and provide an essential reason for travel, regardless of whether the minor has been vaccinated or not. Children aged 12 years old or over who are unvaccinated and travelling alone are subject to the same conditions as adults.

I think they obviously mean children UNDER 12 where as in my head a child is up to 18?

But one negative test is better than 6 so won’t complain!

My understanding is that if they are travelling with a vaccinated adult then they don’t need a test.

Schulte · 20/07/2021 15:27

This is from the Eurotunnel website, they are very good at keeping their advice up to date:
Fully vaccinated passengers (or children aged 12-18 travelling with a fully vaccinated adult) will not be required to present a negative test result to enter French territory. Proof of vaccination status will need to be presented at border controls.

Cherryana · 20/07/2021 15:32

Can someone in easy language tell me what we need to get back into the U.K. from france and when/where you are getting your tests from?

Can you screenshot this for me as I am looking now and I can only see this: www.eurotunnel.com/uk/travelling-with-us/latest/covid-19/#foca Unvaccinated passengers over 12 years old travelling on our passenger service require a negative result from a non-NHS PCR test or a non-NHS Antigen (lateral flow) test taken in the previous 24 hours. At French border controls you will need to present digital or paper evidence of the negative result from the test provider.

Book Day 2 & Day 8 tests Organise a PCR/Antigen test 72 hours before departure Fill out Passenger locator form with test reference from above Quarantine for 10 days or test to release

This is for everyone over the age of 4

This my understanding. We are using Randox home testing

I don't think children aged 4 - 10 need to take a test prior to departing from an amber country, do they? Am looking at this page:

www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england

Where it says:
Before you travel to England you must:

take a COVID-19 test – children aged 10 and under do not need to take this test

It does go on the specify separate rules for France but doesn't seem to mention anything about testing under 10s prior to departure. It's all so bloody complicated!

Schulte · 20/07/2021 17:02

@EmLJC20 where it says the bit about vaccinated travellers on the page you linked to, if you click on ‘more information’ you then find the blurb I sent you.

Schulte · 20/07/2021 17:03

I hope this works?

Mind you we are still getting tests. Belts and braces.

Cherryana · 20/07/2021 17:09

Thank you - sorry to jump on your thread EmLJC20 - It’s just I am going to France 🇫🇷 and I am so confused right now!!

ScaryHairyMcClary · 20/07/2021 17:12

Randox have absolutely terrible reviews.

I think I will book his test anyway as it is a real grey area and everyone I ask has a totally different take. Never simple! After 2 years of not seeing my family is would be so gutting to get turned away at the airport!

No leaving France to come back just over 10s now… but then back in the Uk testing applies to over 4s. And on the way to France testing applies to only the unvaccinated and anyone over the age of 12. Maybe. I mean it’s quite hilarious 😂

You might have to present the test as well if planning to go to big places (museums / castles etc) or restaurants

EasterIssland · 20/07/2021 17:22

This is from a few days ago

The same Covid health pass – which shows that a person has been vaccinated or had a recent negative Covid test – will be similarly required for anyone over the age of 12 to enter a cinema, theatre, museum, theme park or cultural centre from as early as 21 July, the president said, in a bid to pressure more French people to take up vaccines.

Anyone entering a restaurant, café, shopping centre, hospital or taking a long-distance train in France will have to show a special Covid health pass from August, Emmanuel Macron has announced, as France tightens restrictions to contain the surging Delta variant.

Restaurants it seems it’s from august

SoOvethis · 20/07/2021 17:25

Also wondering what does over 12 mean? 12 year olds and above or 13 year olds an above.
I have a 12 year old and going to France next week so need to figure that one out.

SoOvethis · 20/07/2021 17:26

@EasterIssland
Apparently 12 and over will only need to start showing the health pass at the end of august. In order to give them all time to be double vaccinated…

12. As that’s what they’re vaccinating in France
Debetswell · 20/07/2021 17:41

For anyone quarantining in Wales Welsh health don't accept day 5 test and release so don't bother ordering it.
