To say no to the covid booster jab after the side effects of my 2nd one

Urbanhymngirl · 18/07/2021 11:34

I had Moderna 2nd jab 6 days ago and I still feel dreadful. I have had dizziness, nausea, shakes, shivers, flu like aches, tinnitus, sneezing, runny nose, messes up appetite and a full on hangover feeling. Had to take 3 days off work. It’s been ridiculous to be honest. Last time it totally messed up my periods and cycle too.

I am glad I am double jabbed but I won’t be bloody doing it again to be honest! I have been as ill as when I had covid last year!

Aibu?

I’d still go for it, I had really bad side affects with az, in bed for three days, felt awful. 2nd one no reactions at all

lljkk · 18/07/2021 11:36

Because your 2nd jab was so late it sounds like you wouldn't be in the groups offered booster.

Urbanhymngirl · 18/07/2021 11:38

@lljkk what do you mean so late? I had my booster 12 weeks after the 1st jab as per the original guidance

catinthewindow · 18/07/2021 11:40

I feel similar - it’s taken me two weeks to recover from the second jab in terms of not being exhausted / achey / headaches / arm pain. The first one messed up my periods for 10 weeks. I’m glad I’ve had both the thought of a booster fills me with dread.

But I don’t think they’re offering boosters for those without underlying conditions under 50.

coogee · 18/07/2021 11:41

what do you mean so late?

You had your jabs late, so you are not likely to be old enough to be offered a booster.

You won’t have to say no.

Urbanhymngirl · 18/07/2021 11:43

@catinthewindow which jab did you have? I am amazed how much it has hit me to be honest.

I am definitely not having another one even if it’s offered!!

OP posts:
bearandowl · 18/07/2021 11:45

YANBU. The jab is worst than useless - there are increasing numbers of double jabbed people in hospital.

coogee · 18/07/2021 11:45

I had the Moderna. I had the same side effects.

I would have a booster if offered. Compared to how ill my husband was with covid, the side effects are trivial.

Urbanhymngirl · 18/07/2021 11:47

@coogee I had covid last year and was really poorly with it. Obviously I am lucky I didn’t end up in hospital but I have been nearly as rough with the vaccine side effects to be honest. It’s floored me for a week

coogee · 18/07/2021 11:50

It will be interesting to see what side effects, if any, come with a third jab. I had nothing with my first jab but did with my second.

My husband had AZ and it was the other way round.

actorbynight · 18/07/2021 11:59

The jab is worst than useless - there are increasing numbers of double jabbed people in hospital.

Ridiculous statement. Where is your source that "the jab is worse than useless"???

And of course there are an increasing number of double jabbed in hospital now considering that the population of double jabbed is increasing- 2 thirds of adults have had both vaccines now.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/07/2021 12:01

I had terrible side effects with my first AZ but nothing but a headache and tiredness with my second, I was absolutely dreading it.

Soverymuchfruit · 18/07/2021 12:07

Is actually well known that side effects are worse with 2nd dose of Moderna, but with 1st dose of AZ. It sounds like you're not in a high priority group so there will be data available in side effects for 3rd doses, you'll be able to look it up. No reason to assume 3rd would be worse than second. But in any case no reason to assume you'd be offered Moderna for your booster.

whatswithtodaytoday · 18/07/2021 12:09

Tbh it sounds more like you had a virus - maybe even mild Covid - than a reaction to the vaccination. I've never heard of it causing sneezing or a runny nose.

lljkk · 18/07/2021 12:10

the highest % jabbed group are the elderly (~100% for age 70+)

But when the jab doesn't work, or if one has infection due to never having a jab, the age 70+ are still the group most likely to suffer worst consequences.

Advanced age continues to be the main risk factor for worst outcomes.

Abraxan · 18/07/2021 12:10

The jab is worst than useless - there are increasing numbers of double jabbed people in hospital.

How ill are those in hospital? The threshold got being admitted is now lower than it was a years ago. Last year you had to be incredibly ill to get taken in with covid. This year you can be admitted before it reaches that stage.

How many double vaccinated people are now needing ventilation, ICU care and how many are dying from covid?

How many of those double vaccinated people are in the CEV group or elderly - groups we know may well have poor immune systems and therefore the vaccine, like many vaccines, may be less likely to be as effective for them?

Obviously more double vaccinated people will be in hospital now than in March or April, for example, as there are now far more double vaccinated people - over 2/3 of the adult population based on today's numbers.

Abraxan · 18/07/2021 12:12

And worse than useless?
Surely if it is significantly reducing the severity of the illness in the majority of those fully vaccinated it is extremely useful?
We know that it reduces the likelihood of catching covid and that it more than halves your risk of transmitting it to others, based on previous data - again, surely this is much better than useless? 🤷‍♀️

Have you reported all of your symptoms on the Yellow Card Scheme? Have you reported them to your GP? Have you done a covid test to check you haven't caught covid just before your vaccine date? It's possible to catch the covid virus more than once.

Some of these symptoms are not typical of a vaccine side effect so doing both would be useful, as would trying to rule out if you happen to have another virus coinciding with the time of being vaccinated.

Talking England... if there are boosters, they will move thru the priority groups down to age 50+.

Since OP got 2nd jab after 12 weeks on 12 July, that implies 12 weeks earlier = ~1 May, when age group 40-49 were getting their first jabs; age 40-49 is not one of the priority groups likely to be offered boosters. Not for a long time, anyway.

Abraxan · 18/07/2021 12:16
@lljkk what do you mean so late? I had my booster 12 weeks after the 1st jab as per the original guidance
If you are only just eligible for your second vaccine then you are unlikely to be in one of the groups who will be offered the booster.
The booster, from what we've been told so far, won't be offered to everyone - only select groups such as over 50s, CEV and CV, carers, and some household members of vulnerable people.

DinosaurDiana · 18/07/2021 12:17

I’d be looking to have a different vaccine next time, I can see an advantage in that.

This is so stupid. Why is it worse than useless?

Are you being serious? I can’t tell if you’re joking or if you don’t understand how vaccines work. It’s not 100% effective. Nothing is. The numbers will obviously increase as we open back up because there’s more opportunities for people to mix. We might have 200 (completely random figure plucked from the air) double jabbed people in hospital now but if we hadn’t had the vaccine, there would be 1200 people. How is that worse than useless?

Urbanhymngirl · 18/07/2021 12:19

@Abraxan yes I had a PCR test yesterday and it was negative. Maybe I have had a cold too at the same time- it’s hard to know- but I was completely fine until I had the jab a week ago

It isn't that black and white.

No one (official) ever said everyone jabbed wouldn't get ill or go into hospital. They reduce the risk, or severity, but not for everyone.

Some double jabbed people may still end up in hospital, but could have been worse/dead without the jabs.
