To say no to the covid booster jab after the side effects of my 2nd one

Urbanhymngirl · 18/07/2021 11:34

I had Moderna 2nd jab 6 days ago and I still feel dreadful. I have had dizziness, nausea, shakes, shivers, flu like aches, tinnitus, sneezing, runny nose, messes up appetite and a full on hangover feeling. Had to take 3 days off work. It’s been ridiculous to be honest. Last time it totally messed up my periods and cycle too.

I am glad I am double jabbed but I won’t be bloody doing it again to be honest! I have been as ill as when I had covid last year!

Aibu?

@bearandowl

YANBU. The jab is worst than useless - there are increasing numbers of double jabbed people in hospital.
That's a really stupid comment. The vaccine is working just as planned - it's effective at reducing serious illness and death in about 92% of people. Of course this means that some people will still get Covid and have to be hospitalised, and if 50k people are catching Covid every day, then of course some will be double-jabbed. Please educate yourself by reading up about the vaccines and how they work, though, instead of making bonkers statements.
Flobbertybillop · 18/07/2021 12:29

@whatswithtodaytoday

Tbh it sounds more like you had a virus - maybe even mild Covid - than a reaction to the vaccination. I've never heard of it causing sneezing or a runny nose.
I have. Quite a few people are presenting with both those symptoms
BoysTownGang · 18/07/2021 12:32

I’m with you, Op… no way in hell am I getting booster jabbed!!
I was ill in bed for a week after 1st jab ( Ddog had to go to kennels as I could barely move!) All my Easter plans ruined😟
Second jab, OMG!! Thought I was ok, until 48 hrs later, suddenly sick all down myself in the car, sick all night shocking headache, aches etc. It totally wrecked a romantic trip away (couldn’t cancel) my mouth was sooo sore, felt my teeth were falling out, could only eat soft food. This continues even now, 3 weeks on, missed all the football last weekend (plans ruined yet again) as in bed again with the headaches, chills, sweats etc.
I had suspected COVID in Feb 2020 and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as this.
Unless these bloody jabs are made a legal requirement, I am not having any more, and that includes the flu one too.
I was perfectly well until I did as I was told. 🤷‍♀️

LunaLula83 · 18/07/2021 12:51

Get on with it. Don't be so wet

Urbanhymngirl · 18/07/2021 12:55

@BoysTownGang which jab did you have? I feel like I have done my bit for public health and like you, they can fuck off if I am having another one!!

Worse than useless?

Worse than not having it?

Positively harmful?

Literally no evidence for this anywhere.

knittingaddict · 18/07/2021 13:27

bearandowl has been spreading anti vaccine misinformation for ages. Probably best ignored or reported.

Well since you probably won't be offered a booster this thread is a bit pointless op, unless you wanted to start it for another reason.

KimMumsnet · 18/07/2021 13:30

Afternoon, all. Moving this thread over to the Covid topic now.

catinthewindow · 18/07/2021 13:44

Pfizer. First one I was a bit wiped out for a couple of days but this one really affected me and I usually try to push on through anything 😬

I do have an autoimmune disease and I’m wondering if the general inflammation set that off.

Feel lots better now though.

Chloemol · 18/07/2021 13:51

@bearandowl

The jab is not useless. They never said it would stop you getting it, or stop you from transmitting it

What it does do is reduce the symptoms so they are not as bad as they could be, and less people will require hospital treatment

I am amazed you dont understand that, it’s been publicised enough

FizziWater · 18/07/2021 14:23

You won't need to refuse as you won't be eligible for a booster.
If you had your 2nd dose 6 days ago that suggests you are not in one of the groups who will get boosters.

Forgottenyeti · 18/07/2021 14:26

There's probably quite a few people who will be eligible for a booster having only just had their second jab/not even had it yet - the people on the flu jab list who were left out of group 6 so they could meet their targets.

as has been said by PPs you won't be offered a booster

if things change and you are, feel free to turn it down

BoysTownGang · 18/07/2021 14:47

@Urbanhymngirl

It was the Astra Zeneca jab.

A quick survey at work shows that the females have suffered side-effects way more than the men, some quite badly and all similar symptoms (awful headaches, vomiting, aches and pains) A manager (female) at one of our other branches ended up in hospital being checked over for brain haemorrhage as the pain was so bad. Confirmed - by elimination of other causes - to be AZ side effect.

BoysTownGang · 18/07/2021 14:48

@LunaLula83

Was your comment aimed at me?

Lampzade · 18/07/2021 15:11
@catinthewindow which jab did you have? I am amazed how much it has hit me to be honest.

I am definitely not having another one even if it’s offered!!
I had the AZ vaccine on Thursday.. I have had aches, exhaustion, headaches , stomach pains. I have spent the last three days in bed.
I knew that there were side effects but this really knocked me for six
No regrets though

BoysTownGang · 18/07/2021 15:40

The annoying thing is, I was very much in favour of the jabs, and even after being ‘wiped out’ at Easter by the first dose, was quite ok to have the second jab - but the uncontrolled vomiting and headaches that reduced me to tears was too much. Then, to be poorly again last weekend was the final straw!!
No way am I being jabbed again😟

Abraxan · 18/07/2021 15:58
@Abraxan yes I had a PCR test yesterday and it was negative. Maybe I have had a cold too at the same time- it’s hard to know- but I was completely fine until I had the jab a week ago
Coincidences do happen though hence me asking.

For example my Dd caught measles within a day (or possibly just before) her MMR. She was really quite poorly and we were telling ourselves that surely her being ill must be a reaction to the jab. But it was measles - was going around the area at the time - and not the jab.

It could still be a different cold or virus. The symptoms you lost aren't typical of most vaccine side effects.
Definitely worth reporting though just incase.

catinthewindow · 18/07/2021 16:19

Headaches seem so common in younger women - not just the established you might get a headache but it’ll be gone in 24 - 48 hours, but ones that go on and on. Mine lasted 10 - 14 days with each. Touch wood it’s finally gone.

Given the side effects seem worse in women and particularly those under 40 ish I’ve also got the side effect of anger at this being dismissed.

Bluntness100 · 18/07/2021 16:29

I don’t understand the point of this. Unless you delayed you’re not eligible for a booster due to your age, so the whole thing is pointless.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/07/2021 17:28

@Abraxan

And worse than useless? Surely if it is significantly reducing the severity of the illness in the majority of those fully vaccinated it is extremely useful? We know that it reduces the likelihood of catching covid and that it more than halves your risk of transmitting it to others, based on previous data - again, surely this is much better than useless? 🤷‍♀️
If I'm feeling charitable I think posters like bearandowl don't understand how vaccines work but I'm hot and grumpy today so I'm thinking they are just shit stirring!
Backofbeyond50 · 18/07/2021 17:35

Totally your choice OP.
