50,000+ daily cases today - reported / last week school term

This the highest number positive cases since January (according BBC News). I know it's anticipated to reach 100,000 peak in August but this rate of increase feels like it is happening even faster than predicted, and honestly, my gut is saying it's not worth my dd going into school next week.

We are NOT going on holiday, so this would not be to reduce risk of a holiday being spoilt. But my kids 14yr & 17yr (one has health problems) and it just doesn't seem worth the risk to me. Many really terrible stories about long covid in children - not just adults - and 17/18 - you are an adult really.

I just wondered if anyone else felt the same.
I know a lot of folk will think I am over reacting. DH and I have been double vaccinated. But hearing the high numbers ALREADY only mid July, and the opening up just days away, I honestly wish schools could be closed now, just a few days early, as it feels little to gain/less for kids to lose education wise than they have already - relatively.
Furthermore, according to dd, the school has a whole year group isolating (not hers obviously)& only know this as she told me - so I don't think we getting full info from school about nos positive in school - anyone else sense that with their child's school?

We’re truly fucked; it really does feel like end times are upon us. I’ve stocked up as much as I can and planning on hunckering down, not going out or seeing anyone until next spring. I’ve sorted out a will and purchased a funeral plan. The virus is rampant now, there is no containing it. We can only hope and pray for the best now. God help us all.

Blimey.

If you're that convinced we're all going to die regardless, why don't you just get out and enjoy yourself?

scatterolight · 16/07/2021 19:26

It's all bollocks OP. Here's a great thread on the daily motherlode of propaganda we're being subjected to...

Op we did this.

PaulaPetunia · 16/07/2021 19:30

It was two days not a week.

Spottyphonecase · 16/07/2021 19:31

I agree with you about closing schools for the last few days. Schools are ready to go with online learning. I personally feel the risk is too high for just a few days. I’m at work until next Friday in my school. DS is finishing on Tuesday at his school. I am keeping him off Monday and Tuesday.

We are having a quiet summer. Meals out will still be outside and going to quiet beaches.

Bit of a turnaround from what you said recently Hmm

Jeez.
Comedycook · 16/07/2021 19:32

I really don't care about the figures anymore. I don't care about covid anymore actually. Just literally don't give a shit.

Goodness, calm down, it’s not Ebola.

Transmission is high right now, but the vast majority of us who get it will be fine. That was true before vaccines and even more true now. A bit of perspective is important.

MareofBeasttown · 16/07/2021 19:35

And I thought I was the most cautious person on here. OP, I think you may be overreacting a bit. It's still more likely that your children will be perfectly fine even if they get Covid, unless the health condition is serious? Why not ask your GP?

I hope you're joking
FrownedUpon · 16/07/2021 19:36

I agree. I’m keeping mine at home next week.

Lots of people have tested positive here & some are very ill. Feeling really worried again.

OnePoundfishhhhh · 16/07/2021 19:37

They’re getting rid off all the restrictions from Monday in the hope that we can all get the virus and die. That’s been the game plan all along. It’s genocide day on Monday, not Freedom Day! But they won’t get me that easy.

I strongly advise everyone else to prepare themselves for the worst.

TheKeatingFive · 16/07/2021 19:38

Is this a pisstake?

Comedycook · 16/07/2021 19:38

My dc will be in school...all this hysteria is pathetic

Well who cares at this point anyway?!
Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 16/07/2021 19:41

@OnePoundfishhhhh have you had your vaccinations?

Are you clinically extremely vulnerable?

Notashandyta · 16/07/2021 19:42

What the what now?

whistlers · 16/07/2021 19:42

This is why reporting cases with no context is a bad idea

Whenthedealgoesdown · 16/07/2021 19:47

I have still got about 80 toilet rolls so well prepared here 😂

1starwars2 · 16/07/2021 19:53

DS hasn't been to school for a week, so desperate to get back. It sounds like school will be nice and quiet next week though.

My ds just finished his ten day isolation. It was awful...he was happy to be out today
GingerandTilly · 16/07/2021 19:58

OP do what you feel you need to do to keep your family safe. I’m a teacher in the North East and things are pretty grim here. Cases higher than they’ve ever been (1300 per hundred thousand in done areas). Multiple burst bubbles in my school and my kids’ school. NHS staff being told to cancel their holidays. Hundreds of doctors and scientists and the world health organisation are all calling for our government to change its approach yet ‘freedom day’ is going ahead regardless and people are choosing to bury their heads in the sand because they’ve ‘had enough’. I’ve kept my own kids off when case numbers have been high. I’ve also taught in an N95 mask all year and my kids wear masks in school too. I make sure my classroom is well ventilated and mine is the only class in my school that hasn’t yet had to close and I’ve worked throughout all of this giving everyone else’s kids their education whilst putting my own (clinically vulnerable) family at risk. Am seriously now considering leaving my job and home educating my kids.

Schools are ready to go with online learning.

Not for the last week of the year they're not. In primary we're all about PSHE for moving to new classes, art projects, clearing out, sports days, rounders on the field, leavers assemblies etc. Doesn't work online.
