School bubbles

3Lions · 16/07/2021 07:03

So my DCs class bubble burst & the kids have been told to isolate from today.
But bubbles are being scrapped from Monday aren't they?!
Is it me, or is that ridiculous?

Bubbles aren’t being scrapped until 19th August.

Santastealer · 16/07/2021 07:06

Bubbles stay till August, rules on who is counted as a close contact of a child change on Monday.

As your child was instructed to isolate before this they need to finish their 10 days.

ArianaG · 16/07/2021 07:29

Isolation rules stay in place until 16th August, school bubbles are scrapped on Monday.

Yes OP it's ridiculous, are you going to isolate?

3Lions · 16/07/2021 07:30

19th or 16th Aug?

OP posts:
3Lions · 16/07/2021 07:31

@ArianaG well we can't send them into school 🤷‍♀️

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 16/07/2021 07:32

Schools can still use the bubble system until the end of term.
The 10 day isolation as a contact lasts until 16th aug then changes for double vaccinated

ArianaG · 16/07/2021 07:37

@3Lions obviously you can't send them into school, I meant after the term has ended and school bubbles scrapped as 10days will take you into the holidays?

3Lions · 16/07/2021 07:39

@ArianaG mine don't break up until 23 so only just!

I'll get us all tested & then decide.

OP posts:
ArianaG · 16/07/2021 07:42

@3Lions ok I see, mine break up tomorrow but have been told to isolate until 24th so all of the first week of their holidays

ArianaG · 16/07/2021 07:44

Today even!

3Lions · 16/07/2021 07:44

I’m so confused. I ready don’t understand what is changing from the 19th or the 16th aug?
So if a child in my sons class was positive on Tuesday 20th (they are still in) would my son have to isolate?

Yes. Rules on isolation don't change until 16th August so as a close contact your child would have to isolate until then.
BoaCunstrictor · 16/07/2021 08:08

There is not a chance in hell mine would be confined to the home if we got an isolation notice today. Nowhere indoors, fair enough, but stay out of parks, woods, open spaces? Nope.

And decide what? If your want to go out is more important than keeping other people safe?

sm40 · 16/07/2021 08:14

From What I understand after Monday central test and trace are dealing with school cases, not the schools themselves. So will probably take until the end of term to work out who's got to isolate!

ifonly4 · 16/07/2021 08:25

We're keeping our bubbles until end of term. If there's a positive case in one, a few may be contacted by track and trace. If not, all others are allowed in but pupils requested to do a LFT before school. It's a primary.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 16/07/2021 08:32

The school are not making the decision about Isolating, when they get a positive case the school contact the public health team who tell them who needs to isolate. The school then communicate that with the group as they have all of the contact details.

The notification that your child needs to isolate is deemed as being from Public Health England and is legally binding in the same way as if you were directly contacted by test and trace.

ceeveebee · 16/07/2021 08:35

The changes on Monday to bubbles only mean that if a child tests positive, then it wouldn’t necessarily need to be the whole class that isolates, only those in close contact. But practically in primary schools that will continue to be the whole class anyway as it’s impossible to track. And our school has said they are keeping it anyway until end of term next week.
It’s basically a meaningless change that gets some positive headlines without making any difference whatsoever to this ridiculous situation
(Can you tell I also have a child who has been sent home…)

But a pp just said that the whole class would have to isolate still on the 20th? So I don’t understand what the change is?

ceeveebee · 16/07/2021 10:21

@OnTheBrink1 if a close contact then yes

But most primary schools will find it hard to identify who in the class is a close contact so are sticking with the bubbles anyway…

3Lions · 16/07/2021 10:34

It's completely farcical. DC in the bubble that burst has to stay home whilst their siblings can go to school.

OP posts:
3Lions · 16/07/2021 10:35

We've all had PCRs this morning.

OP posts:
usernotfound0000 · 16/07/2021 10:43

It is a pointless change. Our school sent a letter saying bubbles can end on Monday 19th but government are encouraging them to be kept in place until 16th August, which makes sense because as others have said, in the case of nursery & primary it would be impossible to identify close contacts as they all mix as a year group. I have a child off at the moment, we haven't gone anywhere indoors but I have taken her to quiet places for walks/scooter rides etc, no way am I locking her up for 10 days because 1 person out of 60 tested positive.
