Anyone else feel like we in never ending cycle.
Collective responsibility relying on others to do right thing will fail especially if we get rid all legal restrictions.

So far last 18 months we have been a family that followed the rules
We hardly seen family and freinds
We had no parties
Mostly go Essential shopping/ school work or dog walk.
Cleaned door handles and clothes frequently.
Never quarantined post of disinfectant food shop and always went to supermarket not online as none of us cev so never wanted take any slots away from anyone who needed them.
So we mostly stayed home protect others and nhs.
We always try and socially distance and wear mask.
We regularly tested 3/6 in house done pcr tests and everyone except toddler has done regular lft tests.
Both myself and husband had 1 jab booked as soon as we could took ages to get 40s done locally but my 15 year old and soon to be 12year old will be taking a public bus to high school sept and not be allowed choice to vaccinate.

Now rules changing we will continue to wear masks, distance if we can and loads handwashing and cleaning.
Husband works non essential retail where they all jabbed going to contine to wear masks and test if have symptoms so feel his workplace lower risk.

We will be cautious over summer meeting family and freinds outdoors.
Ensuring we have least 2 weeks supply food in house and lft tests.

None of us family 6 caught covid yet.
The biggest risk comes from schools.
Will have 2 at high school, 1 primary and 1 nursery school this September.

My local area covid rates are huge work than 1st or 2nd wave.
Local a and e struggling already and only summer.
Getting appointments with gp still impossible.

By biggest worries and frustration is spent so long avoiding covid doing the right thing feels inevitable.
Even 2 jabs won't stop me getting covid, feeling pretty rough or passing it onto others.
So feel like we less likely see grandparents and older relatives this autumn/ winter.
That the local hospitals will struggle
That we still won't be able see face to face after ringing hundred times.
That if any of us catch thats us all isolation at home 10days as assume whole household still self isolates as close contact meaning husband misses work and we potentially losing income .
Also will be doing some online remote learning or will school give up providing that as assume if education staff or pupils get covid or someone in their household does they have stay at home.

So summarise

Fair chance lots have self isolate this autumn winter.
Rising case numbers, hospital admission and deaths will follow.
The NHS, schools and other services may well be short staffed.
If gets realy bad we back to lockdown again.
The vaccines may weaken links but not sever.
They don't stop you getting ill or transmitting.
We not sure how long immunity lasts.
The vaccines rollout only really possibly due to so many volunteers.
If we end up where we began some will wonder what's the point.

Why do people on news say this is exit wave 3rd wave..
Could there not be 4th or 5th.

Skeptical will get back to normal this year or next.
Despite doing all the right things other than not catching covid theres no rewards.
The kids education will de disrupted for 3rd academic year..
Doubt I be able to do school tours as have apply for year 7 place and reception.

It is the virus that is curtailing freedoms not the restrictions. Why do people still not understand this?

No restrictions and hospitalisations and eventually deaths will rise and freedoms will be curtailed through a) huge levels of illness and knock on effects for work and key services b) non functioning health service c) people too scared to go out and spend.

The only way out of this is when enough people are vaccinated and we are unfortunately not there yet.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 15/07/2021 09:01

I don't understand the worry and hopelessness I hear from so many people .

Infections are high and I know deaths are rising but it is clear that the vaccines have largely broken the link between infection and serious illness. Our attitude to this is weird now...I know people who have been double vaccinated and still caught Covid, but it was an unpleasant illness for a bit and then they felt well again. Just like a lot of viruses we get. Post viral fatigue existed before Long Covid. I wonder how many people would stay out of their cars indefinitely if we started reporting the daily accident and fatality rate (whichever is higher).

I have followed the rules, I am in isolation now because my nursery bubble burst (staff) but I have done what is allowed when it is allowed. I have certainly never quarantined post or disinfected my shopping or washed door handles more frequently in my own home.

I think that in the West our lifestyle is such that we have forgotten that we get ill and that we eventually die. I was listening to a radio programme that explored why the take up for vaccines in developing countries is low. Obviously its complex but one of the reasons is that when you live with the threat of many deadly diseases one more doesn't make you panic as much.

What is the point of all the restrictions "saving lives" if nobody is actually going to live.

Totally agree. I also don't get this,I don't want to get covid narrative. Do people not understand when he scientists they claim they listen to so intently say, we're going to have to live with it....

Pretty much everyone will get covid. I feel like the minute you accept that, you might be able to start living your life again.

starfro · 15/07/2021 09:05

Expert opinion is that most people will get Covid multiple times in their lifetime.

Get jabbed to give yourself very good protection against severe illness. You'll also be less likely to catch it or pass it on, but unfortunately the arrival of Delta means that Herd Immunity via vaccination is no longer possible.

Maybe tweaked boosters will give even better protection in the future, but for now we're looking at a wave of mild illness.

Warhertisuff · 15/07/2021 09:06

We'll only be in a never-ending cycle if we don't accept that Covid is here to stay and that we have to accept that its a risk. The sooner we do that, the sooner we'll acquire wide population immunity that won't stop Infection completely, but should blunt it and any variants that will inevitably arise.

rookiemere · 15/07/2021 09:14

My biggest worry is the omni shambles of DCs having to self isolate continues into the autumn term in Scotland.
I don't really care so much for myself but dammit DS is going into his first big exam year and it beggars belief that this is the third academic year likely to be impacted

TheVampiresWife · 15/07/2021 09:20

It's a shit fact but nevertheless true.

I think that a lot of the attitudes towards covid and the calls for continuing restrictions so prevalent on MN are borne out of a sort of arrogance that humans can somehow conquer everything. And the resultant fear and incredulity when people realise that's not always the case.

Totally agree on all points. Restrictions gone covid hasent. If covid rises too high it impacts on all major services we rely on. My husband just gets paid ssp if he's sick. So lost income. They said previous waves school infections mirror community so would that not be same in reverse. High infection in kids and schools in autumn led to older ages getting infected before xmas. Being a teacher or working in a school now seems to be one of most high risk environments as no kids are vaccinated.

Worrying articles about kids in America

www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/young-unvaccinated-people-are-being-hospitalized-covid-19-delta-variant-n1273998

We will continue to be cautious this summer and hope we don't get it.
If we get it in winter it will be because one of kids caught it in school and infected us.
Hope to get 2nd jabbed next week so another few weeks until me and husband fully vaccinated and we 48 and 41.

I do go non essential shops when we needs stuff but will continue mask up and try and distance and go quieter times.
This is taking personal responsibility for trying to evade infection.

We had lovley socially distance self catered holiday this week thankfully before freedoms day.

This summer we will meet up with freinds and families outdoor.
Will book fun low risk outdoor activities.
So picnics at park, bbq, farm, zoo , pub beer garden , walks maybe trip to beach or outdoor pool.

My parents worry me despite being double jabbed and our area having such high rates of infection.

We so far from double vaccinating anyone over 18.
The failure to allow 12 to 16 to be vaccinated will come back to bite us.

I don’t expect to avoid Covid forever, even though I will be double jabbed after this weekend.

My frustration lies with the vaccine holdouts. These people could mean the difference between returning to some kind of long term normal and endlessly cycling between lockdowns and restrictions of some kind. I got the vaccine partly to protect me and my family and friends and partly because I believe it’s a civic duty of sorts. Sometimes I want to scream at people I know who refuse to be vaccinated and want restrictions to continue to protect them.
