How many women of child bearing age have had vaccine?

ParkingFeud · 13/07/2021 21:43

I'll admit I'm getting myself in a state about vaccines here. I've been reading about changes to menstrual cycle after vaccination and furious that these concerns seem to be brushed off. I've been on one of the gov stats pages that says there have been 20,000 reports of changes to periods out of 41,000,000 women who have been vaccinated. Is there anywhere I can view how many of these 41,000,000 are of period having age?
I'm so worried by reports of people saying they've missed ovulation or haven't had periods after. What if your body just can't get back into a rhythm?! Surely the stress of a vaccine shouldn't cause months of changes? I'm so so close to cancelling first vaccine appointment and don't know what to do. I've never been anti vaccine and I'm surprised at myself. Argh.

My period has arrived 2 days early after each vaccination x

Dr273 · 13/07/2021 22:56

The information I have on this is that concerns on changes to menstrual cycles has only be flagged up and identified in Moderna vaccine, so if you're worried don't get Moderna. However, I'd recommend you do more research as my source is 2mo old and there may be updates.

31/double jabbed/no changes

toastfiend · 13/07/2021 23:03

I've had my first vaccine, I'm late 20s. I always get ovulation pain and did, as usual, after the vaccine. Period (which is often a bit random) arrived bang on time on day 28. Most "regular" cycle I've had in ages, actually, now I come to think of it. I had the Pfizer.

Buttons294749 · 13/07/2021 23:05

Period fine here

AlexaShutUp · 13/07/2021 23:06

My period unexpectedly arrived two weeks early on the day of my first vaccine. It was much heavier than usual.

I might have attributed it to the vaccine, but it just so happens that it started before I had the jab. So pure coincidence in my case. Cycles do fluctuate for so many different reasons.

I think you're worrying unnecessarily. Good luck with the jab!

This is reassuring

waitingforsun · 13/07/2021 23:09

Adding that I am double jabbed, 30s, no changes. Had both jabs during my period.

TidyOmlette · 13/07/2021 23:11
  1. Double vaccinated with AstraZeneca and no change to my cycle or any illness from it.
Nengineer · 13/07/2021 23:14

Don't worry, if you have the vaccine in a little while you will be turned into a robot by 4g and then Bill Gates will eat your children Hmm

SemperIdem · 13/07/2021 23:15

Double jabbed - second just yesterday. No changes following the first (3 periods since) though this months (the 4th) is slightly late, which I’m attributing to an unexpected stint working nights rather than to the jab or pregnancy as the latter two are significantly less likely.

Shookethtothecore · 13/07/2021 23:17

35 double jabbed no issues with periods.
No issues at all tbh apart from a dead arm for a day

Elginite · 13/07/2021 23:24

30, have had first jab, no change to cycle whatsoever. Fully intend on having my 2nd (2 weeks to go!)

boys3 · 13/07/2021 23:33

Numbers by sex and age group (England) published here www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-vaccinations/

These are the numbers by age group for women as reported in their last weekly file (so jabs just up to Sunday4th July)

How many women of child bearing age have had vaccine?
FiveToedSloth · 13/07/2021 23:53

Well, a new trial is launching to look at fertility/pregnancy/birth issues after Moderna jabs. I think a lot of people believe these studies have already been done. They haven’t.

Tealightsandd · 13/07/2021 23:56

I assume if they're doing that trial, there is also research going on for the large numbers of women who have experienced menstrual issues from Covid/Long Covid.

Tealightsandd · 13/07/2021 23:59

One thing the Moderna trial needs to check for is potential Long Covid. So many people could have it without realising. Particularly since it can develop after initial mild or asymptomatic infection. Some (not all) People could be wrongly attributing symptoms to vaccines, when in fact the cause might be Long Covid.

SylvanianFrenemies · 13/07/2021 23:59

I've had both with 0 effect on my cycle.

For that they need an unvaccinated control group of people who have had covid to compare with. Unfortunately the pool of unvaccinated people is now so small that meaningful analysis will become more and more difficult. I’ve been saying this since they first said their plan was to vaccinate the entire population and before this sort of research had been done.
The Moderna study is only 1000 women. They need a bigger study to catch “rare” events (rarer than 1 in 1000).

ReadingTeaLeaves · 14/07/2021 00:20

My period arrived 10ish days early after second jab. May or may not be related to the vaccine - not massively unusual for my cycle to fluctuate and I have no concerns at all re vaccine and fertility (especially given that covid does increase risk to pregnant women and their babies, so being vaccinated reduces that risk).

Jenasaurus · 14/07/2021 01:40

12

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/07/2021 05:33

Had mine but I don't want any more children anyway so not bothered. I don't have periods due to the contraception I'm on.

Wilkolampshade · 14/07/2021 06:01

Had both (AZ) Am 52. STILL getting periods as normal.

ParkingFeud · 14/07/2021 08:04

This is all really reassuring, thank you so much for taking the time to post everyone!
