Track and trace... but haven't been contacted?

My colleague has tested positive for Covid, she started to feel unwell on Wednesday but not the typical covid symptoms just general bad headache and chesty etc so she came into work as usual on Wednesday and Thursday.

We are both exempt from wearing masks and we were wearing one for the duration of our shift. We worked together from 8:30am until 2:30pm in very close proximity (small department).

They've filled in the track and trace link but I haven't heard anything (test came through positive at 2pm today).

Should I have been contacted?

Well Track and Trace is a service provided by Royal Mail so I’m not surprised you’ve not heard anything…

HereWeGoAgain24 · 11/07/2021 18:49

Should've said 'we weren't wearing one' in the OP.

It's not a great system. I got told to self isolate yesterday for four days which means I was in contact with someone no later than last weekend.
Either way if you've been in that close contact you need to self isolate immediately and get tested.

ForeverFloating · 11/07/2021 18:51

If she passed on your details you will be contacted, it can take a day or two so best to isolate anyway

BramblyHedge · 11/07/2021 18:56

Same here. Found out daughter has been in close contact with a positive case and guidance says you only have to isolate if contacted...but no way am I sending her to school tomorrow even if they don't get in touch.

onthinice · 11/07/2021 19:00

Exactly the same here @BramblyHedge

Mindymomo · 11/07/2021 19:13

Test and Trace can take upto 2 days to contact you, in the meantime you should isolate as you were close contact.

HereWeGoAgain24 · 11/07/2021 19:16

Turns out she didn't put my phone number in because she didn't have it, wonder if that's why.

Well you know the answer to this ..yes they should have contacted you and you should be isolating

I think it's time for people to stop relying on test and trace..is that the right name? I am in Scotland where it's test and protect ..and use common sense.

The system just can't cope ..no surprise for a govt system

True. Haven't read/heard good things about it from the start to be fair.

I'll be isolating for the 10 days since I last had contact with her... I think that's right?

Half the people who've worked alongside her have refused to isolate but I'm just not willing to take the risk and pass it on to others if it's potentially spread to me. Especially given the mask exemptions.

How can they contact you if she doesn't have your contact details? Genuine question - it's always bugged me, how do they find you? Esp if the positive person is a stranger?

That’s not helpful. Predictable but not helpful, everyone knows what was meant.
Sparklingbrook · 12/07/2021 10:09

How do you go about proving this to employers when there no official request to isolate? Confused

IndiaMay · 12/07/2021 10:20

@lorca they cant and wont. If both people have the app then this will ping to say the OP has been in close contact and she needs to isolate. Otherwise there wont be any contact

HereWeGoAgain24 · 12/07/2021 10:31

@Sparklingbrook

For me it was my manager who actually contacted me and told me I need to isolate.

Handy @HereWeGoAgain24 because if it was a friend or something I can’t imagine making that call into work. Shock
Anyone could say it and get time off.

HereWeGoAgain24 · 12/07/2021 11:13

@Sparklingbrook yeah you're right. We have to do at least twice weekly LFTs and report the results so work is usually always the first to know.

The colleague in question had a positive LFT in the morning followed by positive PCR the same night.

If you’re exempt from wearing masks why are you working closely together?

HereWeGoAgain24 · 12/07/2021 11:17

@NavigatingAdolescence

Because mask exemption doesn't change our working environment or department layout.

How did that risk assessment go?

NavigatingAdolescence · 12/07/2021 11:20

I thought employers had to enable social distancing and provide PPE if they couldn’t.

Not just let people work in close quarters as though there was no pandemic.

Foobydoo · 12/07/2021 11:22

There was a case in DHs work, small firm all sharing a toilet and kitchen.
The lad tested positive on a Sunday and was in the pub the Saturday before with two colleagues. Test and trace did not contact any of them. DHs boss told them to do daily LFTs and come in if negative. This is the reason for the high numbers throughout the pandemic in the North West. Too many employers like this. They don't get sick pay so cannot really afford to isolate anyway and are risking their jobs if they choose to isolate when test and trace don't trace them.

HereWeGoAgain24 · 12/07/2021 11:24

It's literally impossible to social distance in our working environment. Some areas are tight and small and you need to communicate constantly to keep things running smoothly.

What sort of business is it?
