I’m 41 and fit and healthy but unvaccinated. I was due to get vaccinated last month but DH talked me out of it due to so many people he knew getting unwell from it 😒… I’m kicking myself and he’s now backtracking 😒….

My teenage son caught it first and I’ve been feeling weird for days and got a positive today. Feeling ok, bit chesty and feeling ‘off’ but otherwise ok.

I’m having awful panic attacks though, feel absolutely terrified and filled with adrenaline. Please give me some stories of recovery.

I was 49, overweight and a Type 1 diabetic. I was tired and lost my taste and smell. I got a bit breathless going upstairs and it took me at least at a couple of months to be able to get back into my running/exercise due to fatigue but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting x

Try not to worry. I tested positive 9 days ago and having health anxiety this was the moment I’d been scared of for 25 months (I am double jabbed which helped me stay calm). I felt rough (like a bad cold but I never had to stay in bed) for 5 days then pretty much back to normal. Try to just focus on how to feel at the time rather than how you may or may not feel tomorrow. Lots of fluids, paracetamol if you need it and find a comforting box set to binge watch to occupy yourself - The Golden Girls has just gone on Disney+ and this was perfect for me! Try not to worry Flowers x

Did everyone else who’s had it feel quite panicky due to all the media hysteria surrounding it? (Not saying it’s not to be taken seriously btw)

@ThePinkBush

Is it 99.9%? That’s a good statistic!!!
Yes, that is correct. You will be fine!
JaneyHenderson · 09/07/2021 19:22

Had it in April. 44- asthmatic and was unvaccinated at the time.
I was also anxious but the oxygen monitor really helped me stay calm. I have never felt so tired in my life! That's was the main symptom and it took about 8 days to feel any better. Felt like the worst hangover I have ever had!
Both DH and I were totally fine after 3 weeks. Try not to worry x x

@Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget

Same. Until I had flu last year I never really understood what it was. I was delirious throughout most of it. My covid was loss of taste and tiredness.

Whilst I have now had the covid vaccinations, I will never go through another winter without a flu jab.

ladygindiva · 09/07/2021 19:32

A friend of mine, 57, smoker, caught covid unvaccinated at Christmas. He felt fluey and had a cough for a couple weeks but said it wasn't that bad, and he definitely didn't need hospitalisation. Fully recovered within a few weeks.

Holidayhomeone · 09/07/2021 19:45

I’ve had it, wasn’t vaccinated. Was fine. The most annoying thing was losing sense of smell and taste but that came back after a week or so. Kept waiting for it to get worse but I’ve had worse colds to be honest!

thedarkling · 09/07/2021 19:47

I'm sure you'll be fine, but if you are this anxious why on earth didn't you get vaccinated?

Allthatyouhave · 09/07/2021 19:59

I'm 38. Symptoms started last Monday after a negative lat flow before work. I tested positive a couple of days later. I'm slim, fit, don't smoke and have no existing conditions. I'm not vaccinated.

On Sunday night, so day 6, my oxygen levels dropped to 89, my temp went to 40.6 and my heart rate was 140+

Paramedics came and transferred me to hospital. I've had X-rays, CT scans, steroids, antibiotics, blood thinners, painkillers, fluids...
I developed pneumonia and spent 3 nights in hospital under observation. I didn't require oxygen. My levels stayed steady at 93% plus despite extreme breathlessness.

I'm on day 11. I'm now home, continuing medication. My heart rate is down to 80 something. I'm still breathless enough that I can't hold a conversation but my oxygen is at 99.

I was on a ward with a 20 yr woman with no health issues and a 68 yr old woman with COPD. We were all discharged on the same day, 3/4 days after admission.

2 of my children have tested positive and have no symptoms. My Partner has mild symptoms and feels fine after a lemsip.

I'm still in shock if I'm honest but I received the best care. I will be getting the vaccine as soon as I'm able to.

cupcakecourageous · 09/07/2021 20:02

I'm Fit & healthy 45.

For me it was like a really awful flu, at times I struggled to breath and felt a bit panicked, but slow & relaxed breathing helped calm me down and the scary moment passed.

I am much better now, but still a slight cough and a bit tired after a day at work or a flight of stairs.

For gods sake, get vaccinated when you can though. Honestly it's so dumb not to.

Sonata13 · 09/07/2021 20:15

I am convinced that one of the main unreported symptoms of Covid is an absolute increase in anxiety. I almost think it is possibly the worst part. You have huge waves of panic that come and go. Well, I certainly did. I have had it twice and had the manic anxiety both times. I am in 61 and still going strong! I had no fever, slight breathlessness, cough, dizziness and was knackered for ages. It can really affect your mood and you can get tearful and panicked. But I promise you'll get through this, just be kind to yourself and rest and sleep as much a you can. Take lots of care.

MouldyPotato · 09/07/2021 20:17

Have you tried seeing if any relaxation videos on YouTube help? Like ocean noises or a hypnotism track? Just something calm to listen to.

Onesipmore · 09/07/2021 20:22

I would get dh to go and get his jab asap and I would not let him talk me out of getting something like that in the future.

AvaCallanach · 09/07/2021 20:29

Way back last March I might possibly have had covid (had negative antibody test, but not til December). The most striking thing was the waves of panic. I wasn't worried it was covid at the time as the symptoms were not as described. I had jitteriness, panicky feelings, then diarrhea, no appetite, back ache, then a sore throat and sticky mucus then finally a peppery feeling in my chest and indigestion that went on for weeks.

Namechanged4thi5 · 10/07/2021 10:26

@ThePinkBush hope you are feeling better today

TheNameTheWebsiteForgot · 10/07/2021 10:41

CEV had it last year. All fine.

ThePinkBush · 10/07/2021 14:15

Feeling better today thank you! Tight chest, tired and achy but not so panicky.

@ThePinkBush that’s great to hear

Legoninjago1 · 10/07/2021 17:55

@SpnBaby1967

I'm fat, 40 and asthmatic and had it at xmas. I was fine. Still wfh every day, had an epic sore throat and slept as much as possible which as an insomniac I thoroughly enjoyed! I had never felt so rested.

Probably took about 10 days to feel "normal" again

😄 This is one of those posts that I occasionally read and think 'I wish I knew her IRL!'
Legoninjago1 · 10/07/2021 17:58

Glad you're feeling ok OP. Please go and get jabbed when you can.

SpnBaby1967 · 10/07/2021 18:44

@Legoninjago1 Grin

ThePinkBush · 14/07/2021 15:47

Pretty much back to normal now, can’t smell/taste fully but otherwise fine

OP posts:
Namechanged4thi5 · 14/07/2021 15:58

@ThePinkBush that’s great to hear. Fingers crossed you get the taste smell back soon. I lose my sense of taste and smell with every cold I’ve had…way before all if this. It’s something I’ve always endured..
