I’m 41 and fit and healthy but unvaccinated. I was due to get vaccinated last month but DH talked me out of it due to so many people he knew getting unwell from it 😒… I’m kicking myself and he’s now backtracking 😒….

My teenage son caught it first and I’ve been feeling weird for days and got a positive today. Feeling ok, bit chesty and feeling ‘off’ but otherwise ok.

I’m having awful panic attacks though, feel absolutely terrified and filled with adrenaline. Please give me some stories of recovery.

I’ve had worse colds 🤷🏼‍♀️ The scariest thing for me was losing my sense of taste, it was so depressing! Thankfully didn’t last very long!

About 2 months after covid, I had a flu like illness with fever, horrendous cough, I couldn’t get out of bed for a couple days. My kids had it as well. I & they had multiple PCR tests, every other day for 10 days as demand by my GP & all negative. Whatever it was far worse than covid for me! But either way, I recovered just fine from both!

Bobholll · 09/07/2021 18:20

*I was unvaccinated at the time

CousinKrispy · 09/07/2021 18:21

Aww poor OP! My sister had it (before Vax),felt crummy for a few days, bounced back just fine. Fingers crossed for you.

ThePinkBush · 09/07/2021 18:22

Thank you Flowers
How old are you if you don’t mind me asking?!

I'm fat, 40 and asthmatic and had it at xmas. I was fine. Still wfh every day, had an epic sore throat and slept as much as possible which as an insomniac I thoroughly enjoyed! I had never felt so rested.

Probably took about 10 days to feel "normal" again

ComDummings · 09/07/2021 18:25

Try to stay calm and positive, if you spiral with your panic attacks you will end up become more unwell and that’s the last thing you need! Self care, lots of water and rest. Try and fight the anxiety, I know it’s hard but you have to try and push it away.

ThePinkBush · 09/07/2021 18:26

Thanks guys, I’m feeling a bit calmer now. Feel like such a wimp freaking out like this but have had two close bereavement in the past few months so everything feels a bit scarier.

I’m 34 with moderate asthma.. I take daily steroids. Not enough to be considered vulnerable thankfully.

wasthataburp · 09/07/2021 18:33

I've had it and similar age to you. No vaccinated. No different to a cough / cold and not had ones either. You will be fine.

AubergineParmigiana · 09/07/2021 18:38

I really do wish you well OP, and hope you recover very soon.

However, it is frustrating reading this about your DH. If you're that anxious about things like that, and are especially anxious due to the two bereavements, then surely having the vaccine would have been the sensible thing to do?!

Namechanged4thi5 · 09/07/2021 18:39

I’ve not had Covid yet but I’m unvaccinated as of now. Keeping my fingers crossed for you- is there anything you can watch to distract you? Movies?

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 09/07/2021 18:40

My sister in law had it at 43, quite overweight and unvaccinated at the time. She basically just felt tired. Hope it will be ok for you OP!

Loudestcat14 · 09/07/2021 18:43

My morbidly obese BIL with a history of heart and breathing problems had it and while he had flu-like symptoms for two weeks, he has been fine since.

ThePinkBush · 09/07/2021 18:44

I have a tickly cough and feel tight chested and dizzy but I think a lot of it is anxiety!!! My oxygen levels are fine!
Yes I’ll watch a movie I think.

Everyone I know who’s had it ( think it’s about 30 people of different ages ,mostly women ) has been fine including my nan who’s 90 (!). If you’re a healthy woman under 60 and not overweight I don’t think you have to worry. Just relax and take one day at the time, be prepared for that it might take a while to get better. I think since they started to do the vaccination they’re making it sound like the virus is a little bit more dangerous than it actually is xx

Ps. I’m not anti vaxx but did hesitate about AZ, luckily managed to get Pfizer as I live in London so I’m now double jabbed

Namechanged4thi5 · 09/07/2021 18:52

@ThePinkBush I suffer from anxiety and all the talk around covid/vaccines doesn’t help

I do something which helps at times - every time anxiety takes over I write my thoughts down and write a counter argument as well - for eg:
I’m unvaccinated so will get covid - counter I plan to get vaccinated and in the meantime I’m taking all precautions

I will dues if I get Covid - there is a lot known now than the same time last year and if I need to I can ring 111/999 for advice or support

Maybe you can just counter argue in your mind to calm your nerves a bit?

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 09/07/2021 18:54

The problem is we have been told this is the plague it is not! You will be fine I’m sure. My biggest problem was loss and of taste for a couple of days that’s it! Now flu that is the one you need to worry about I thought I had had flu before until I got it….it was horrendous and I literally couldn’t of left my bed if I wanted to but I never got tested never went down as a statistic just struggled at home for a few days and got bk to life. Now there is a a a vaccine this covid stuff is so over the top it’s unreal!!

ThePinkBush · 09/07/2021 18:59

Thanks all. I’ve had sickness bugs were I’ve been very very unwell (average twice a year caught from younger DC!) but always get better fairly quickly. I’m not so concerned about the fever or headache, more the breathing thing, quite alarming!

Yes have really had it drilled into us over a long period of time now. If this was a year ago I’d be beside myself, it was terrifying at the beginning.

My aunt had it and is 60 and overweight and she was fine. She keeps telling me I won’t know how it will affect me though, thanks Hmm

Schrutesbeets · 09/07/2021 19:01

Well you're fine aren't you? You've said yourself you feel a bit off but okay?
So what are you panicking about?
99.9% recovery, I'd try and calm down to be honest.

ThePinkBush · 09/07/2021 19:02

Is it 99.9%? That’s a good statistic!!!

OP posts:
Schrutesbeets · 09/07/2021 19:02

Sorry, didn't mean for that to sound harsh by the way - just that you need to rationalise it in your head.
If you had the same symptoms and didn't know it was covid, would you even care? 30% of people don't even get symptoms so I'm pretty certain you'll be fine.
Stop listening to your aunt.

HandScreen · 09/07/2021 19:04

I'm 38 and had it, it was really no big deal. Just super tired and headachey for a few days. Really not a big deal.

ThePinkBush · 09/07/2021 19:05

@Schrutesbeets no not at all, you’re right

OP posts:
isthisouting · 09/07/2021 19:08

I'm 41 - also fit and active - and had it 7/8 months ago. Was fine. Currently suffering from my first actual common cold in 2 years and feel awful though! Way worse than covid!!!

The worst was tummy upset at the time and the 2-week complete loss of smell (now almost fully back).

You will be fine Smile

Indigopearl · 09/07/2021 19:12

I am also 41 and had it in January. The worst bit was the worry about how it would pan out. In the end though it was fine, 10 days of fatigue and cold like symptoms and I managed to care for 2 children throughout. No long lasting effects.
