Avoiding Covid testing and tracing...

How prevalent do people think deliberately not getting tested when symptomatic is, or removing NHS app from phone is, as people try to avoid being caught in enforced isolation?

I'm thinking it's probably extremely high... and that case numbers are even more of the tip of the iceberg than was previously the case, especially as symptoms of Delta are less distinct.

And yes, of course there are people with symptoms deliberately avoiding testing. This is made inevitable in a system that leaves some people unable to avoid to isolate, regardless of how anyone else might feel about it.

Againstmachine · 09/07/2021 19:36

I have never done a test and worked all through it, at the time I was working a temp job I didn't work didn't get paid, o was not I'll anyhow.

I have the app and I have the close contact turned off and use the check in feature then delete the check in.

I don't think people understand that lots of people.simply can't afford to isolate you get 80 percent on furlough but ssp if you have to isolate.

Twokitstwokats · 09/07/2021 19:44

I avoid test and trace by not going anywhere.

Againstmachine · 09/07/2021 20:05

I go everywhere and multiple places in one night. But still avoid tracing.

@PurpleHoodie I TOTALLY agree with you And im posting from a state pension household.

Its just not possible for ppl in low paid precarious employment to keep doing this.

@canigooutyet that is GENIUS

I do wonder though if any others have done it for less good reasons like e,g. getting to stay at home to watch the football.

FVFrog · 09/07/2021 23:07

I have three young adult DC (19-24) they, and their contemporaries are deleting the app and giving false details from the 19th and I don’t blame them. We cannot keep making young, healthy adults isolate. Especially after the announcement about no quarantine for those who have had two injections after holidays etc they’ve had enough and rightly so.

MercyBooth · 09/07/2021 23:07

Ive never downloaded the app. (not got the tech) or taken a test.

I dont go to pubs restaurants parties gigs festivals (no coffee shop visit since March 2020) I go to the shops, hairdressers and visit my parents. Thats it. Thats my life. I social distance and ive always washed my fucking hands despite the patronizing shit we have had from this Government.

MercyBooth · 09/07/2021 23:09

The right talk about the deserving/non deserving poor and the left talk about the deserving/ non deserving NHS patient. Quite a disturbing parallel.

Just an observation.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 09/07/2021 23:10

Of course people/families on low income will be reluctant to isolate, only the privileged can't perceive this as an obstacle to "Do the right thing ". The fear of having to isolate/lose income has always been hugely greater than the threat of covid could ever be. Its shame that some can't acknowledge that

Only a third of the UK downloaded it. 8 bet half of them switched the Bluetooth off (lots workplaces encourages this), and now social distancing restrictions are to be lifted I bet 50% of the remaining half stop using the app too.

Giving EVERYONE in low paid work EASY access to money to self isolate would have made/still make a huge difference.

But Tories dont believe in giving poorer people money.
Funny how Covid is serious enough to put us through three lockdowns, tell us who we can/cant have in our homes and close businesses but not serious enough for them to let go of their ideology.

Not serious enough for them to forego their summer recess either. Either last year or this one.

Suzi888 · 09/07/2021 23:17

Never installed the app and as a manager whose had to deal with self isolation payments, I can confirm it’s utter bollocks! The data is only as good as the person taking it down and most are getting paid exorbitant amounts for what amounts to very little inaccurate information handling to say the least., Shambles

Very well said.

My DH had chicken pox during Euro 96, that didn't seem suss at all. Wink

I have the app, but contact tracing off. In the last 4 weeks my ds has been in school for 6 days, so include next week as well, to make 6 out of 25 days. The current situation is completely unsustainable.

memberofthewedding · 10/07/2021 00:04

One great reason for not downloading the app is not having a smart phone. They are the devil's invention. I have a dumb phone that serves me very well and life still goes on.

MercyBooth · 10/07/2021 00:32

Surely they must have realised right at the start that not everyone can afford or even wants a smartphone especially those on low pay.

I reckon they didn't. They've never lived in reality.

Not sure where you get your statistics, but just to confirm, it wasn't even available in parts of the UK 👍

TeddingtonTrashbag · 10/07/2021 06:56

@BoaCunstrictor

I suspect there may be more of us who never downloaded the app in the first place than have deleted it.
I never downloaded the app -it just appeard on my phone by default and when a colleague alerted me to it I deleted it! ! Would not have even noticed it was there otherwise and I have Bluetooth on all the time anyway so definitely would have been pinged.
FflosFfantastig · 10/07/2021 07:32

@CoffeeWithCheese

I never installed the app to start with so uninstalling it is not a crime I am guilty of.

If I have symptoms I'll test, if the kids have symptoms they'll test but I'm not obsessively running to the test centre for a twinge in my big toe like some on here seem to advocate.

I am the same, plus I have a very basic phone. I've been following mask / distancing guidelines and would test if I had symptoms but not otherwise.
Wellbythebloodyhell · 10/07/2021 07:40

I never had the app, I take pictures of the QR code instead wherever I can get away with it and always leave a false number if checking in via paper

Overthebow · 10/07/2021 07:52

I don’t have the app and I’m not isolating for every little illness. My baby always has colds at the moment, is teething and has hay fever. I’d never be in work if we isolated for everything. No one I know is testing babies, it’s traumatic and why would we isolate babies when they’re not properly ill after a whole year of them missing out, as well as not being able to miss days of work every time a baby gets a slight temperature.

where does the so called left talk about deserving/non deserving nhs patients?

Would have thought, given 6m people on waiting lists, thats also a right wing thing too.

Partey · 10/07/2021 08:09

I deleted the app yesterday, after being pinged.

At an event last weekend, masks worn and social distancing. One lady developed symptoms Wednesday night and I’d not seen her since Sunday lunch time. She openly admitted to telling track and trace that her symptoms developed Tuesday so some of her colleagues(who also hadn’t seen her since Sunday) could have the time off work(fully paid!)

I’ll be cautious, as I always have been and if track and trace contact me I’ll explain my reasoning.
