Does the vaccine protect you from long covid?

Just that really. I can’t find any information about this. I always assumed it did , but now that I keep hearing that people are testing positive, having symptoms etc even after two jabs I’m not so sure. Even if you only get mild symptoms you can still get long covid, that much I know.

I’ve never been very scared of the virus as I’m not vulnerable, but long covid does worry me a little bit and that’s the main reason I had the vaccine 😐
Can anyone find a reliable source regarding this or is the case that they just don’t know yet?
Also interested to hear if anyone here with long covid got “cured” by the vaccine?
Thx ❤️

  • The vaccine doesn't ‘cure’ long Covid

  • You can still get long covid if you have had the vaccine

If that’s the case I’m actually not sure if I would like to have a booster jab , at least not if it’s AZ. I know my risk of dying from covid is very small . Interesting cause that seems to be one of the arguments being used to vaccinate people under 18, that it’ll be protecting them from long covid.

Well it'll protect people from 'long covid' in that they'll be less likely to catch covid in the first place.

I have had chronic fatigue syndrome for a few years. I have had Covid twice. No idea if I had long covid because I just carried on being horribly fatigued afterwards. After my first vaccination I felt absolutely terrible yet weirdly much 'weller' than I've felt in a very long time. And even better after my second. I think being vaccinated can kick-start your inmune system. Mine certainly feels like it has been booted up the arse. I had the AZ vaccine.

@AllTheWorldIsGreen that’s interesting, I know there was a small study showing that symptoms of long covid improved in some people after having the vaccine ( can’t find a link sorry) .

Similar to @AllTheWorldIsGreen I felt a positive immune response after both jabs. I had long covid lasting 14 months and after each jab improved significantly

AllTheWorldIsGreen · 08/07/2021 19:15

I've heard loads of anecdotal stuff supporting it.

Monkeyrules · 08/07/2021 19:22

There was an article in this month's new scientist magazine mentioning a study that showed the risk of long covid is 30% if you're unvaccinated but this reduces to 15% if you're vaccinated.

However there is no definition of long covid and these stats include people who were on ventilators and suffered muscle wastage, those who's organs were damaged by the disease and people who initially had a mild form of the disease followed by long term side effects and another category I can't remember so this needs to be factored into the statistics.

Sorry I don't have a share token.

That’s great @TiddleTaddleTat . I have a friend who suffers from daily headaches after she had covid in January, she had her first jab yesterday and is hoping it’ll make a difference.

It was the 26 June 2021 issue

I had an awful virus four years ago. I ended up having all sorts of tests all negative, so a virus was the diagnosis. I didn't feel myself for 12 months and felt really rough for 3.

Anything to avoid viruses!!

Thanks @Monkeyrules 🙂
