Refusing to go in to the office

Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 19:50

A few staff members have tested positive via lateral flows, they’ve had PCR today awaiting results.

Several other staff members have been socialising with the positive staff, some spent the whole weekend with them in their homes. All in office today like nothing has happened, negative lateral flows but we know those give false negatives.

I suspect when the PCR’s are back tomorrow, those staff in office will be asked to isolate. Until then, we are all in a cooped office with terrible ventilation and appealing social distancing.

I don’t want to go in tomorrow. I’d rather go in once all is said and done. I was on the shielding list. Am I being unreasonable?

Appalling, not appealing.

I don't think you are being unreasonable.

User5827372728 · 07/07/2021 19:52

I don’t think you are being unreasonable either

Can you have a migraine tomo?

happytoday73 · 07/07/2021 19:54

Your employer has knowingly allowed this?

Nohomemadecandles · 07/07/2021 19:55

I'd be honest rather than faking a migraine the day after this football match! Grin
SomebodysMum · 07/07/2021 19:56

I’d be inclined to have some covid symptoms tomorrow if I was you

Blueberry40 · 07/07/2021 19:57

YANBU at all. Call in sick, do whatever you need to do to protect yourself.

happytoday73 · 07/07/2021 19:57

Crazy.. Surely by now they realise a positive lateral flow almost guarantees a positive PCR and your colleagues who have been in close contact having to go home. Surely they would try and protect those they have not been in contact or you could all be out of the office/home next week...

Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 19:57

Thank you. When I voiced concern today I was laughed at. Good to know I’m not overreacting.

OP posts:
Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 19:59

I should point out they were socialising without knowing the few staff were positive! They only discovered this yesterday when they did the LFT.

OP posts:
Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 20:00

@Nohomemadecandles If I’m honest, they could technically start a disciplinary as I’d be simply refusing to go in to work.

This is why our md isn't even entertaining getting people back to the office. Even hybrid.

The odd people go in if they need to. But he knows there always those that wont pay attention to any guidance or eve their own symptoms. We had several who were quite vocal about not believing covid even existed.

He knows if we get a load back hybrid working, the office will be closed again in a few weeks.

Its gone through the school that loads of employees have their kids at. In the space of 3 days all but 2 classes have closed.

I wasn't shielding. But I wouldn't be happy going in either OP.

Theres a big group of people that seem to think if they ignore covid and belittle other people's concerns, its makes them morally superior. It's weird and twatty

HermioneWeasley · 07/07/2021 20:07

Can you effectively work from home or ask for annual leave at short notice?

Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 20:09

@HermioneWeasley I can and we did it for a couple months but now nobody is allowed to.

The person that lives with the positive case also works with us and is isolating because obviously that’s the law. He has been denied working from home today, even though he can.

I think I remember you posting recently about how your employer is insisting on a return to the office even though your job can be done from home perfectly fine. All the usual sadists came out shouting about how your employer can do whatever they like and you have to accept it, as long as it's not actually illegal. As @Sloaneslone says, weird and twatty. I rattled some of their cages Grin

Apologies if I am confusing you with another poster, OP. If you are the same poster I'm thinking of, I guess this shows that your employer's plan is going swimmingly... Hmm

HermioneWeasley · 07/07/2021 20:14

I’m sorry, it sounds like your workplace are being wholly unreasonable.

If you want to push it you can refuse to work under “circumstances of danger”, but it’s untested whether risk of Covid transmission would count.

Your SLT are twats

HalzTangz · 07/07/2021 20:17

For me it would depend on whether the colleagues who came in have had both vaccines. If yes I would let it pass seeing as in a few weeks anyone double jabs no longer has to isolate.
It would also depend if you've been vaccinated to

Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 20:19

@HalzTangz Neither have been vaccinated and neither are having it. Confused

OP posts:
Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 20:19

@MrsLCSofLichfield Probably was me! I’ve definitely been vocal about being forced back in!

I was on that. Was it the one where someone claimed it was a breech of data protection to work at home. As thought wfh hadn't been thing before for people before covid.

So many threads about wfh just have people who have no actual point just posting 'go back to work!!!' Grin

Katefoster · 07/07/2021 20:32

@HalzTangz I work in a hospital and half the hospital is off either with COVID or isolating- we've all had both vaccines it dosent make a difference to the rules there

BlueSurfer · 07/07/2021 20:34

Can you wfh tomorrow? If so, I would do that and tell your manager you have symptoms so won’t be in the office.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 07/07/2021 20:36

I call them the gradgrind dementors Grin The idea that anyone can be safe, comfortable and happy at home and still earn a living really seems to bother them!
