Refusing to go in to the office

A few staff members have tested positive via lateral flows, they’ve had PCR today awaiting results.

Several other staff members have been socialising with the positive staff, some spent the whole weekend with them in their homes. All in office today like nothing has happened, negative lateral flows but we know those give false negatives.

I suspect when the PCR’s are back tomorrow, those staff in office will be asked to isolate. Until then, we are all in a cooped office with terrible ventilation and appealing social distancing.

I don’t want to go in tomorrow. I’d rather go in once all is said and done. I was on the shielding list. Am I being unreasonable?

Replying to @Sloaneslone, sorry.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 07/07/2021 20:39

All part of the service of cheering ourselves up, @Whathefisgoingon Grin Living well is both a class duty and the best revenge.

sherrystrull · 07/07/2021 20:41

It's appalling.

It's what's happening in primary schools. Parents are testing children on a LFT. They are positive but the rest of the class continues to come to school until the PCR results come in. They cannot close a bubble on a LFT.

No wonder the cases are rocketing.

Sloaneslone · 07/07/2021 20:43

@MrsLCSofLichfield

I call them the gradgrind dementors Grin The idea that anyone can be safe, comfortable and happy at home and still earn a living really seems to bother them!
🤣🤣🤣

I have certain theories about them. But I am yet to confirm it. But I suspect there's 2 distinct groups that hate other people wfh.

I don't get why, the location of someone else's desk, matter so much to other people Confused

MrsLCSofLichfield · 07/07/2021 20:46

2 distinct groups? Do tell, don't leave me hanging here!

Sloaneslone · 07/07/2021 20:52

OK....but I am going to run away 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I think its sahp that seem to be pissy that people are able to work AND maybe do the school run or put a load of washing on. Or just generally have an easier life when wfh. Almost like they are losing something if working people can have a better work life balance.

And very senior staff who had these privileges before and now feel they are losing something, because their underlings have the same privileges.

As its MN, on here I would say its mainly women from both the above groups. Wether it's women in general (outside MN) who have an issue, I don't know.

Sloaneslone · 07/07/2021 20:52

Sorry I meant to say older Senior staff.

Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 20:55

I personally reckon it’s mainly business owners / management who want their own staff in office as they “feel” they’ve lost £ (dip in productivity) when their staff were WFH. They talk to “us” like we are their staff.

OP posts:
Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 20:56

Well, they talk to “us” how they wish they could talk to their staff, but can’t.

Have you been vaccinated?

Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 21:01

@Naillig222 I have. My toddler hasn’t though.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 07/07/2021 21:05

@Sloaneslone Yes, I think that's a fair shout, thanks for satisfying my curiosity! Smile

I think there's also some people who can't WFH due to the nature of their jobs and they are a bit bitter about it - I don't blame those people, but I'm pretty sure they're a small a minority of the GET BACK TO WORK! gradgrind dementor brigade on here. NHS staff and teachers I know don't seem to think that everyone should be exposed to the risks they are, and although there are retail/warehouse/factory workers posting on MN, something tells me that they're not the site's core demographic...

maddiemookins16mum · 07/07/2021 21:07

We’ve got loads in the office now, they’ve even stopped the masks.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 07/07/2021 21:09

OP, yes I too have noticed the sneering tone of condescension some of those posters adopt too, like they know so much more about How Business Works than the rest of us. Makes them feel big, I suppose!

Whathefisgoingon · 07/07/2021 21:44

@happytoday73 they encouraged it! One of the staff came in expecting to be sent home and was told there was no need.

Oh Christ. In March 2020 I was sat opposite someone who came into work despite their partner being sick with COVID symptoms. They were young and unsure of what to do and scared of getting into trouble. A manager told them not to go home, so they stayed at work. Maybe I caught COVID off her, maybe it was off someone else - quite a few of us were v sick for weeks within a day or two of this. My employer has stepped up pretty well since then, but sometimes I wonder if people have learned nothing Sad Angry
