We need to vaccinate 12+

94 replies

ICECream821 · 07/07/2021 08:03

… over the summer! If we want any sort of ‘normality’ in winter we need to get the 12+ age range vaccinated.

As the cases are rising amongst the young un-vaccinated I did think the government might use this period of time to vaccinate the young before schools open again.

Very confused by this free for all. Especially over the summer holidays.

I’ll still be wearing masks as fully vaxxed. I think they could have opened up but people wear masks.

Do you not think that the JCVI will look at all the data?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/07/2021 11:07

@WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly

I know children with long covid and the impact is huge. I will be much happier when children are vaccinated but I fear that if 12+ are vaccinated the virus will mutate to spread among the younger ones as it looks for a host.
How many? What are the symptoms?
LFT01 · 07/07/2021 11:08

I’d prefer them to look at the data before pushing people to vaccinate their kids

peboh · 07/07/2021 11:08

Not a chance in hell I would be choosing to vaccinate my child. The risks of covid are much lower than the potential risks that could come of this vaccine in years down the line.

noblegiraffe · 07/07/2021 11:08

What do you think they're doing right now, LFT? Confused

roguetomato · 07/07/2021 11:10

@LFT01
The other day, someone posted this on other thread. So, it has been talked about. I still want my 13 years old vaccinated.

www.bmj.com/content/373/bmj.n1635 Covid-19: Should we be worried about reports of myocarditis and pericarditis after mRNA vaccines?

Quartz2208 · 07/07/2021 11:13

Literally just had my second Pfizer (in the 15 minute waiting time) and the nurse said they are now showing everyone a card which explains the myocarditis risk which is mainly in the under 40 men and within a week of the second jab so it certainly is something that they are aware of

LFT01 · 07/07/2021 11:15

Thanks for the insight Rogue

Yes, and people a lot better at numbers than most of us worked out that if you're a young male, your chances of myocarditis after the vaccine was something like 0.004% if I remember correctly on the thread.

Geamhradh · 07/07/2021 12:53

Can you remember @roguetomato? I can't find the thread now, but I think it worked out at 0.004% out of 300,000,000 doses of vaccine. A total of something like 1220 people iirc?

roguetomato · 07/07/2021 13:05

@Geamhradh I saw that article on this one.

Yeah sure, I’ll swap my DC13’s runny nose and sore throat for the risk of permanent heart damage and other not yet known about long term effects Confused
Wtf happened to just vaccinating the vulnerable and elderly against a virus that is only a danger to the vulnerable and elderly in 99.997% of all cases?

Lostinacloud · 07/07/2021 13:10

And i dont care what minute numbers they offer up as the ‘rare’ adverse effects. It’s still a higher figure than the risk of covid to young people so it’s insignificant.

Getawaywithit · 07/07/2021 13:18

at the very least, they should be vaccinating any child over 12 who is CEV or CV so they can return to school in September without the worries.

I suspect it will be far easier to get children vaccinated when they are in school. A small team of nurses can do a school of 1,500 in a day.

What you've said could just as easily apply to catching Covid - your dc has been lucky, not all children are.

you get that there are children who are CEV and CV, right?

Tallpaulwho · 07/07/2021 13:29

@maskofzoro

It isn't mandatory!

Those under-18s that want it should be able to have it.

I wish people who don't want to vaccinate their own children would stop trying to stop other children getting vaccinated. It is none of your business and you are only doing to stop your own children possibly missing out.

The MHRA have done the risk assessment. These people are the best experts at new drug approval in the country. They weighed up the benefits and risks and approved the vaccine for over-12s.

Those over-12s that want it should have it - with parental consent for those under 16. So you can still stop your own DC getting vaccinated if you want, but stop trying to prevent other people's DC getting vaccinated.

This is the only way for schools to operation next term because teachers are going to do everything they can to get any ill children and their contacts out of school and isolated at home. They doing this now, even though they have been told to stop.

This. Very sensible post thank you.
Lostinacloud · 07/07/2021 13:31

Well yes I do @Getawaywithit, which is why I used the word vulnerable. I didn’t suggest vulnerable meant only adult vulnerable. And in the case of vulnerable children then that is an individual risk assessment to be made. But when talking about a non vulnerable child, I maintain that the risk of vaccine is higher than the risk of covid.

Geamhradh · 07/07/2021 13:32

@roguetomato, thanks! That's the fella!
