If you not yet vaccinated how did today’s news make you feel?

I’m yet to be… decided against it due to family history of clots and allergies but not against taking the vaccine. I’m waiting until my husband has his second dose this week and once he is all ok I’m going to have mine. I’m scared of the vaccine but todays need makes me scared of going out as well

I’m 40, not underlying conditions that I know of with a child in primary school.

I thought a year back a news like today’s will make me so happy but I feel numb…

I guess I’m the only nervous one!

You're not the only one concerned.

Many of the CEV and CV and their households are feeling exactly the same.

oohmethumb · 05/07/2021 22:35

It hasn't changed anything for me. The vaccine is still a higher risk to me than Covid. I'm not frightened of Covid and I know that my risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from it is incredibly small.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/07/2021 22:38

Why don’t you chat to your doctor about your history? He or she may recommend a particular vaccine. I think most people your age or older have already had 2 doses so aren’t too worried. Most younger people have had at least 1 dose too. I hope you are able to vaccinated soon.

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 22:40

@oohmethumb I wish my husband thinks like this…he has made me upset by saying that now it’s certain I’ll get it as the virus is circulating among the unvaccinated

OP posts:
Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 22:42

@GhoulWithADragonTattoo thank you for your post - I did have a telephone conversation. He was pretty much on the fence as in he did acknowledge my family seems to be having issues but I should still go ahead and didn’t particularly recommend a vaccine.

Let's face it - you're much more likely to catch Covid than have a bad reaction to the vaccine (statistically speaking).

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 22:47

@CrocodilesCry I wfh- don’t go out at all except for running or walking. I’m not into pubs etc either.,,I’ve always been more of a books/music person. Don’t have family or friends here do no social contacts- wfh until September- my only exposure is my daughter in school and my husband
@oohmethumb I wish my husband thinks like this…he has made me upset by saying that now it’s certain I’ll get it as the virus is circulating among the unvaccinated
But if you do get it, there's a statistically overwhelming chance you'll be fine. You make it sound like an inevitable death sentence...

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 22:49

@CrocodilesCry sorry posted too soon…but you may be right that the risk of catching Covid is higher hence why I now need to go and get my vaccine as my husband has been vaccinated - but my head keeps playing with me about how ill end up dead with a clot

OP posts:
Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 22:50

@loveisagirlnameddaisy it’s my husband who keeps talking about ventilators etc…which is now making me think that maybe I’ll end up in that sta the as I’m not vaccinated

OP posts:
oohmethumb · 05/07/2021 22:54

Luckily my DP is a total narcissist who hasn't even noticed I haven't had it! You have to do what's right for you. I've got a history of clots and allergies too (and other conditions) it was such a relief when my gp advised me against vaccination. I'm much happier with the risk of Covid.

HSHorror · 05/07/2021 22:54

I think you need to get a vax. As by sept its not that many weeks from now already so you may not get the second by then plus the 2w to take effect. And it wi ll wave through schools in sept

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 22:57

@oohmethumb sorry to hear that. I’m glad you managed to make a decision that you are happy and comfortable with.

I wish I could as well with confidence but I feel like stuck between a rock and a hard place

He sounds ill educated and unsupportive. Maybe ask him for some statistics for people in your age group who have required ventilation.

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 22:59

@HSHorror - yes I’m thinking of preparing myself to go in next week. Holding off this week due to period starting tomorrow and I usually end up having bad migraine along with it…

I have an actual clotting condition that only affects me in pregnancy and if I needed surgery. I was scared of the vaccine too however I spoke to my GP who then spoke to haematology on my behalf. They apparently looked at my history and said it would be absolutely fine in their opinion for me to have the Pfizer. Had it last Sunday and I’ve been absolutely fine since. Please speak to your doctor again (maybe a different one?) just to get a bit more reassurance. If it’s clots you’re scared of then Covid has more chance of giving you a clot than the vaccine does.

CrocodilesCry · 05/07/2021 23:00

Your daughter is (unfortunately) the biggest vector here. Covid is ripping through schools and will continue to do so as kids aren't yet being vaccinated.
Take your dr's advice of course, but statistically speaking Covid is a bigger risk to you than the jab itself. I know plenty of people who have had DVTs/clotting issues who have still been jabbed without issue.

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 23:01

@loveisagirlnameddaisy he is in the medical field and I assume he has read the stats etc..but he has this way of communicating which is very black and white a d he doesn’t do ‘emotions’ so it’s basically take the vaccine or not you end up dead..and when I try to say that yes I want to but I’m scared then the pat answer is well it’s a chance you will have to take…

HappyAsASandboy · 05/07/2021 23:01

I felt exactly the same as you. I get it, really.

I researched the different vaccines and I decided which one I was most happy (least unhappy?) to take. Then I made an appointment and declined at the appointment because it wasn't the vaccine I was happy to take. I made a second appointment and declined again. On the third appointment I got offered the vaccine I was happy with and I now have one shot under my belt.

Are you worried about all three of the vaccines on offer?

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 23:03

I wanted to go for AZ as the MRNA ones being somewhat ‘new’ makes me nervous but the whole clotting issue was what threw me out..

OP posts:
MavisMavis · 05/07/2021 23:03

I was working with a young woman today who was telling me about her 20 yr old friend who went to A&E unable to breathe with Covid - young, slim, fit and healthy.
I do generally think I would be fine if I got it, but they definitely isn't guaranteed.

motogogo · 05/07/2021 23:03

If you catch covid have have a history of clotting issues then you could have problems, far better to be vaccinated so you can control the date - speak to your gp if you are worried. We all had AZ even the 20 something DD's and no problems, it's pretty rare, but covid related problems are not as rare in 40 year olds (does depend on where you live though, around here it's rife in kids at primary schools)

Namechanged4thi5 · 05/07/2021 23:04

@HappyAsASandboy thank you! Your post really helped as in someone understands!!
If I’m honest yes I’m very scared of all the vaccines
But I need to take one so if I have to I would go with AZ as it’s a tried and tested? method…
