If you not yet vaccinated how did today’s news make you feel?

I’m yet to be… decided against it due to family history of clots and allergies but not against taking the vaccine. I’m waiting until my husband has his second dose this week and once he is all ok I’m going to have mine. I’m scared of the vaccine but todays need makes me scared of going out as well

I’m 40, not underlying conditions that I know of with a child in primary school.

I thought a year back a news like today’s will make me so happy but I feel numb…

For me it's not just the clotting issues it's the combination of clotting, fibroids, history of migraine, significant allergy and anaphylaxis after medication that is the issue. Any one or two of those things on their own would be probably fine but the combination makes the vaccine outweigh the Covid risk in my age group and with my risk factors.

PurpleRainDancer · 05/07/2021 23:11

@CrocodilesCry

Let's face it - you're much more likely to catch Covid than have a bad reaction to the vaccine (statistically speaking).
Woah unless you know the Op's medial history and are a qualified medic this is a very ill advised pronouncement to make.
Aalvarino · 05/07/2021 23:12

I think maybe your husband has his science head on and just wants you to be safe. Go and talk to the GP and see if you can get them to go through the risks of vaccine set against the risks, for your genetic condition, of clotting disorders should you contract covid.
Please do not rely on other people,s vaccination status to protect you. Not when they aren't doing children and we don't know if vaxxed people stop the chain of transmission.

caitQ · 06/07/2021 04:55

I understand why you're worried about AZ.

If you book a slot with your GP/the national booking service, you don't know what you're getting. However, there are lots of pop up/walk-in Pfizer-only clinics that accept people of all ages.

If you wanted to get vaccinated but not AZ, you could game the system.

Once you've got the first jab, you can use any booking system to get the second (or go to a walk-in again) as they can't then force you to have AZ as we're not mixing vaccines in the UK.

caitQ · 06/07/2021 04:58

Btw, never mind family history, I have a personal history of anaphylaxis. I was fine. Only very mild (and controllable) side effects.

I feel so much happier being vaccinated. With every passing day, my Covid-related anxiety goes down.

Namechanged4thi5 · 06/07/2021 08:27

@caitQ could I ask which one you had please?

OP posts:
Namechanged4thi5 · 06/07/2021 08:28

@caitQ yes looking at walk in centres so I go prepared

@Aalvarino yes he talks facts - very black and white so doesn’t understand why I’m nervous

Especially when I took my daughter for all her vaccines etc

OP posts:
Namechanged4thi5 · 06/07/2021 08:30

Tbh even I don’t sometimes understand why I’m so nervous….

ifonly4 · 06/07/2021 08:39

Namechanged4thi5 I didn't want the vaccine originally. For me, I realised that I couldn't go on living like this for the rest of my life with an increased chance of catching covid and restrictions, so that outweighed the risk of the vaccine. After I'd had my vaccine, I felt really good and positive, had no problems afterwards. The problem is none of us know how covid would affect us, also who we risk passing it onto. I've had pneumonia twice - it's no joke gasping for air and when you get reasonable amount it causes pain, then a six week recovery period - you wouldn't think I'd be the sort to suffer like that - I was in my 30s, no lung/breathing problems/healthy and fairly fit.

whataballbag · 06/07/2021 08:45

If you're concerned about clotting could you find a Pfizer walk in?

Bryonyshcmyony · 06/07/2021 08:46
@CrocodilesCry I wfh- don’t go out at all except for running or walking. I’m not into pubs etc either.,,I’ve always been more of a books/music person. Don’t have family or friends here do no social contacts- wfh until September- my only exposure is my daughter in school and my husband
That's really sad Sad

Babdoc · 06/07/2021 08:53

OP, you seem to be ignoring the fact that Covid infection itself causes blood clots - and more frequently than the vaccines do. If you have a history that puts you at increased risk, then you are safer having the vaccine than having Covid. Go for Pfizer or Moderna if you want to reduce the risk even further.

Namechanged4thi5 · 06/07/2021 10:24

@Babdoc no I’m not- that’s why I want to have the vaccine- but not comfortable with it at all

OP posts:
Whinginadeville · 06/07/2021 10:29

You're running a very dangerous risk by not having it especially with a school age child

Namechanged4thi5 · 06/07/2021 10:58

@Whinginadeville yes I’m becoming acutely aware of this.

gamerchick · 06/07/2021 11:04

I don't understand this. What exactly do those wanting to wait or not have the vaccine actually want? Everything to be put on hold until they're ready?

It's a clear choice. Have the vaccine or take your chances with covid. Do nothing and then you've chosen the latter by default.

I'm sorry you're anxious, I am. But this is a head over heart thing.

Namechanged4thi5 · 06/07/2021 11:07

@gamerchick I’m not saying lock everything down until I’m ready or people who are struggling like me are ready- no that’s definitely not what I’m saying

I started this thread as a support for ones like me who are still stuck between the vaccine/Covid dilemma and to support each other be it to get the vaccine or a place to talk…

Not sure why you think I’m asking the world to stop..

Never mind posting on an internet forum for advice - what does your doctor think? I'm in France so you would be too young here to have the AZ, can you not ask for a different vaccine? Everyone who can have the vaccine needs to have it - to protect themselves and to protect those unable to have it.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/07/2021 11:19

Talk to your GP to get specific advice.

If you feel it's more appropriate to get vaccinated, it's logistically easier to access now while 1st (& 2nd) jabs are being prioritised before they move on to 50+ boosters in the autumn.

It is a reality that as well as medical risk/ benefit to consider, there are also political benefits for self-isolating and travel for vaccinated people.

Branleuse · 06/07/2021 11:24

if you dont want to risk the vaccine or covid, I imagine that the news that other people are going to start getting back to normal must be a bit weird.
I think id be having a proper chat with the doctor and finding out how to be vaccinated safely and monitored after

roguetomato · 06/07/2021 11:25

I can see that you are anxious, but you are lucky that you still have choice. I feel so depressed about what people with cev family member might be thinking. Having a cv child, I am so worried what happens in Sept. CEV/CV children don't even have a choice to get vaccinated yet.
If you want to get vaccinated anyway, sooner the better for your own protection. At least you know what to look out for side effects when you get vaccinated, compared to the unknown effects of virus.

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/07/2021 11:28

You are likely to be offered AZ as you are 40.
The only contraindications are the very rare heparin associated thrombocytopenia and anti phospholipid syndrome. A family or even personal history of PE or DVT in most circumstances does not increase your risk of blood clot. Speak to your doctor again or book an appointment for the vaccine where you will be counselled.
If you are offered the Pfizer and have not had anaphylaxis to it's components or anaphylactic reactions to unidentifiable drug or vaccine s again you can go ahead.

Aalvarino · 06/07/2021 11:45

It sounds like you have pretty severe health anxiety. Could you maybe get some longer-term treatment for that?

Namechanged4thi5 · 06/07/2021 11:52

@Aalvarino yes I think I do - I struggle with anxiety but not so much health but I can see clearly that’s changed.

I have a cbt appointment booked for Thursday so will bring this up.
