Has anyone else had shingles shortly after getting vaccinated?

Basically I feel too young and vibrant to have shingles, so I am desperately seeking any explanation other than me being middle aged.

I had my second vaccine a few weeks ago, and now I have a mild but uncomfortable case of shingles. I haven't found much connection online, but since my shingles aren't being reported anywhere (as the GP says not related), I am wondering if I am alone or are there possibly others?

Lots of people have reported it. It's fairly frequently listed on the yellow card info.

I thought everyone knew this.

When a majority of the population have had a vaccine recently, the probability will be that a percentage will get ‘something’ after the vaccine, it doesn’t mean they are connected

My DS got shingles last year after what the GP thought was Covid and before tests were widely available. He was 8 at the time, no prior health issues or allergies.

Get the antivirals as soon as possible - from memory, needs to be within a few days of onset, the earlier the better

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/07/2021 22:44

Don't worry, I started 5 days of Acyclovir within 48 hours of the rash appearing.

Very bad luck for an 8 year old to get it -poor kid!

I got ophthalmic shingles about 3 was after my Pfizer vaccine - never had it before but don't know if it was just coincidence

Yes I had shingles about 4 weeks after my first jab.
However, I was the most run down I have ever been so I put it down to that (working for the NHS at the time during the January wave)

Bimblesalong · 06/07/2021 23:05

A couple of friends in my book group got shingles after their jab. They’re also medics and tell me that there is a link. They reported it under the card scheme.

time4anothername · 06/07/2021 23:21

there are links, do report it under yellow card to keep up the research on it www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8165093/ "COVID-19 Vaccines and the Skin: The landscape of cutaneous vaccine reactions worldwide"

Do shingles cover the whole body or can it just be a small area? Is it a rash first then blister?

dementedpixie · 08/07/2021 22:58

Shingles is localised along the line of a nerve; it doesn't cover huge areas of the body.

I know of two people that developed shingles a few weeks after recovering from covid. One in their thirties and the other in their forties.

Bichette · 08/07/2021 23:08

Yes, I had ophthalmic shingles, actually in my eye, about 6 weeks after my first Pfizer jab. Doctor did ask if I had recently had the vaccine but said it was probably a coincidence Hmm

Did your DH ejac into your eye in the last few weeks?

Any chance of even a little bit of splashback like on withdrawal?
Just that can be the cause of eye infections

I had shingles when I was 14! I remember the doctor telling me once you have had chicken pox it can reactivate when your immune system is extremely low hence why older people are most likely to get it when their immune systems start to naturally weaken, so the only way for it to come out is when your immune system is down it's not a virus floating around so either the jabs have weakened your system or there's something in the jab that has just activated the virus to re start or it's all just a coincidence and stress has caused it to flare up.

Yes there is some evidence that links covid vaccine with shingles.
