Has anyone else had shingles shortly after getting vaccinated?

Basically I feel too young and vibrant to have shingles, so I am desperately seeking any explanation other than me being middle aged.

I had my second vaccine a few weeks ago, and now I have a mild but uncomfortable case of shingles. I haven't found much connection online, but since my shingles aren't being reported anywhere (as the GP says not related), I am wondering if I am alone or are there possibly others?

I had shingles a couple of weeks ago. Have no idea why, I'm certainly not stressed. Vaccine link is interesting. I got a bad ache down my right side for a few days then rashes on the back and underneath of my right arm.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 05/07/2021 19:43

Not the vaccine, but DS had it about 3 months after having covid. Mid twenties.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/07/2021 19:49

my friends son aged 19 has got shingles as a complication of Covid. He hasn't been vaccinated though

TammyTwoSwanson · 05/07/2021 19:50

I've got weird burning skin symptoms too, on the back of my head and neck on one side. I thought I burned myself with the hair curler and didn't realise, but there's no mark - it just feels like it's burned, and everytime my hair moves (which is every time I move my head) it burns more!

Does that sound like shingles type pain?

dementedpixie · 05/07/2021 19:51

It could be the start of them before blisters appear

Remmy123 · 05/07/2021 19:51

Yes someone I knew

womanity · 05/07/2021 19:54

I’m fairly sure the ‘shingles’ I had in March 2020 was covid.

If you google covid and shingles you’ll find other reports of the same.

bruffin · 05/07/2021 19:58

Shingles happen when your bodies stressed

squid12346 · 05/07/2021 20:00

A colleague at works husband got shingles after astra zeneca vaccine

mumofthree22 · 05/07/2021 20:00

I was told I had shingles after having my 1st AZ jab - the rash didn't come but had all other symptoms- was so painful. GP said it was probably just a coincidence as the jab lowers your immunity in 1st week and more susceptible of catching viruses and these things. However he did raise a yellow card at the time in March - i'm in my early 40s here so any age can get it.

Screamingcowboy99 · 05/07/2021 20:04

Of course it's connected.

Shingles can be caused by stress being placed on your immune system. I'm wondering what on earth could possibly cause stress to be placed on your immune system after having a vaccine? The whole point of a vaccine is to induce a response from your immune system FFS.

It's like periods. Putting your immune system under strain messes up your periods.

I had shingles on my cheek and eyelid when I was in my early fifties. I don't have a clue what triggered it. It healed up with anti virals and I saw an ophthalmologist several times that week.

You will be OK. I doubt it was the vaccine.

hellsbells99 · 05/07/2021 20:09

Have you done a covid test?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/07/2021 20:17

Have you done a covid test?

Yes, we do LF ones at work, so I'm pretty confident I haven't got it or had it.

I'm not worried, as shingles go mine are mild. I might report it just on the off chance there is a pattern. Although how they would unpick vaccine vs Covid vs year of stress I don't know.

This is so strange, a few weeks after I had my first vaccine, (pfizer) I had a strange sensation on my scalp at one side and I also noticed my eyebrow on the same side felt really tender and prickly. It went on for a few days at least, I did think of shingles but as I couldn't see or feel anything on my scalp I thought it mustn't be. I did have a bad headache for a week and didn't feel right though!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 05/07/2021 20:24

I've had awful hives since not long after the 2nd vaccine. Could be due to that or could be that this last year has been shite and I quite often feel stressed and run down

We've also had all sorts of other bugs that the kids keep bringing home from school

TammyTwoSwanson · 05/07/2021 21:27

I had my 2nd AZ vaccine in May, so it seems too long ago to be caused by that. I did a PCR covid test on Saturday (about a week or so after the burning started) and it came back negative.
My immune system isn't great anyway: I'm 2 years in remission from blood cancer.

I do feel pretty tired and headachey lately too. Can you get shingles without the rash? I do have chicken pox anti bodies, but I've never had the spots.

torquewench · 05/07/2021 21:28

I had my 2nd jab in early may and currently have shingles.

raaaasss · 05/07/2021 22:05

Df had shingles after his 2nd pfizer and I know a woman locally who had singles after her 1st.jab,.AZ iirc.

Elverybaby · 05/07/2021 22:12

Yes

SorrySoldOut · 06/07/2021 16:16

It’s bloody painful today and blisters and rash are now appearing

Not sure what to think redarding vaccine link.

Chocolatier9a · 06/07/2021 16:34

My American cousin developed shingles after her first jab. She was convinced it was the vaccine especially as another colleague went through the same thing. I thought it more likely she was just run down after a really hard year (she’s a nurse)

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/07/2021 17:15

You may well be right. I genuinely think we are all a bit run down and in need of a lift.

I don't know anyone who's developed shingles after their Covid vaccine, but I do have an ex boyfriend who developed shingles in his early 30s and was quite unwell with it.

I've also had two family members develop it immediately after arriving here for a visit - maybe the stress of getting ready to go on holiday, then a long flight?

Not very nice - I hope you feel better soon.

PseudoBadger · 06/07/2021 19:35

I had shingles (mild) shortly after 2nd AZ. However was also very stressed and run down so who knows
