Mine is 17 and booked in on 5/8. She can't wait. Neither can any other teens I know (I have 11 classes of them, some have already had first dose)

rosie39forever · 04/07/2021 11:24

My dd is 17 and had both doses of Pfizer with absolutely no side effects, most of the 18 year olds I know ( Children of friends and family) have been vaccinated before they go off to university. I think you need to have a conversation with your child and see what they want, at 15 most are able to take on board the case for and against.

RoseWineTime · 04/07/2021 11:25

How can my 17 year old get vaccinated?! I thought it was over 18?

rosie39forever · 04/07/2021 11:27

My 17 year old is CV vulnerable with a CEV dad so was in group 6. Pfizer is licences for 16+ in this country and 12+ in many other countries.

Depends where you are I think. It's over 12s where I am.
Sgtmajormummy · 04/07/2021 11:45

12-17yo in Italy.
DD is 15 and has had her first does (second early August).
It’s highly likely that having a green pass (or a doctor’s exemption) will be a condition of returning to school in September.
Kids who don’t have their normal inoculations aren’t allowed in public sector schools here, so there’s a precedent.

RoseWineTime · 04/07/2021 12:41

I’m in England snd would love my 17 year old to be vaccinated

TinaYouFatLard · 04/07/2021 12:46

I was seriously ill after the AZ vaccine and so will not be taking the risk with my children.

CherryPlumCrow · 04/07/2021 12:57

No way.

Why would my healthy teens get a jab that is more risky to them than the virus itself?

Have you seen the children getting ill/dying in America with enlarged hearts after the Pfizer vaccine? It's just not worth the risk IMO.

The older adults and vulnerable have been vaccinated now so there is no need to come after our children.

Barbie222 · 04/07/2021 12:59

Yes, I think it's a good idea on both an individual and societal level.

CointreauVersial · 04/07/2021 13:03

DD2 is desperate to be vaccinated. She isn't 18 until late August, so will be at a significant disadvantage versus others in her year group when she gets to uni, wants to go on holiday, or attend an event.

Appuskidu · 04/07/2021 13:03

I would be very happy to have my teens vaccinated. Hopefully that will be possible in the Uk before too long.

The as yet unproven but possible link to myocarditis? In 1220 people? Out of 300,000,000 doses? Yes, there's a long thread somewhere about it.
Trixiebell06 · 04/07/2021 13:07

Tbh I think at some stage we will be pushed by schools to get our kids vaccinated
I’ve been vaccinated & I’m not scare mongering by no means but a few younger women that I know had their jabs & their periods went erratic one of which was regular & her periods stopped for a couple of months it could be pure coincidence

Have a nearly 12 year old here, talking to our friends recently about this we were all in the same agreement that our children would not be having the vaccine if it was then pushed down to the 12 and overs.

CantGetNoSleep73 · 04/07/2021 13:24

Not a chance mine will be having it - why are you all so keen? The vaccine has more bloody risk than the jab for kids...
Where does it end?

CherryPlumCrow · 04/07/2021 13:27

I admit it's probably very rare but that doesn't help if it's your child that dies, does it?

CantGetNoSleep73 · 04/07/2021 13:29

I mean the vaccine has more risks than covid! All the reports of heart issues etc especially with young men, way too many side effects and unknown long term issues either

Starlightstarbright1 · 04/07/2021 13:31

No my 14 year old won't be.. The government has told us they aren't at risk, are closing down bubbles so no... Not saying never but not for a few years at least.

I am double vaccinated

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/07/2021 13:32

X2 16 years old fully vaccinated
Older teen waiting second jab.

Not all children are in the same boat. DD is severely asthmatic and the others agreed to protect her.

Why wouldn’t you?

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/07/2021 13:32

we were all in the same agreement that our children would not be having the vaccine

Why do you need a friendship agreement? Make your own choices.

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 04/07/2021 13:35

My 17 year old has had his. My 21 year old gets his this week. No idea why my DS2 was flagged up for his do early, he wasn't to keen on getting it but it's more the thought of a needle but he was fine.

Of course not. It's therefore good that so far, none have.

Friendship agreement?? 😂 I didn’t say that, I meant we all thought the same, which you know is what I meant 🙄

I have made my own choice. I am not having the vaccine myself at this stage.

Nerdygirl · 04/07/2021 13:49

Thank goodness there are a couple of posters who have some perspective . Why on earth would you vaccinate your child when statistically they are unlikely to have bad symptoms or long term effects. But you would give them a new , still in trial vaccine where it’s impossible to know the long term consequences. It’s a no for my children and I personally find it appalling it’s being considered
