Currently disagreeing with dh. Is it possible to get second Pfizer jab as early as 21 days after the first in the UK?

So, it looks like we need to defer family holiday to Jersey since 18 year old dd had her first pfizer jab on 30 June. Deferring is disappointing but what can you do? - we just need to suck it up.

Jersey are now insisting that all adults are fully vaccinated with both jabs in order to visit, so to go to Jersey on 9 August as planned, dd would have to have her 2nd jab by 23 July (to allow the 14 days after the 2nd jab for the vaccine to 'take')

Dh is saying she could have her second jab at a walk in centre 3 weeks after the first. I am saying that since her first was on 30 June then 21 days after the first is 22 July which is tighter than a ducks arse in terms of meeting the 23 July deadline. I am also sceptical that she could just walk in to a walk in centre on 22 July and guarantee getting a second jab.

Who is right?

Many walk-ins are enforcing a 4 week minimum now. In fact most are now saying 6 weeks. It’s not impossible, but it’s hard.

LimitIsUp · 02/07/2021 16:51

Precisely what I thought IndigoC

My local is enforcing 8 weeks minimum for Pfizer. Problem is, you won't know til you get there.

FizzyPink · 02/07/2021 16:52

I think it really depends on the individual centre. Everywhere round here is saying it’s an 8 week minimum but loads of my friends have walked in and had it after 3 weeks. I’ll be trying a couple on Sunday purely to make travelling easier

All the adverts for walk ins in my area say minimum 8 weeks

pjani · 02/07/2021 16:54

Where are you? Some places in London have been allowing short gaps - the Emirates and the Science Museum have been in the press.

As they run out of first jabs, I think they will get a lot more flexible with second jabs. My guess is that if you’re willing to travel, she will manage to get a walk in dose.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 02/07/2021 16:55

Our walk-in (london) was allowing 4 weeks apart. (Not advertised as such, but people not turned away) (Pfizer is licenced for a 3 week gap)

Your records will update as having second jab after about 2 days. Might be worth checking if that triggers the travel certificate? (I'm not sure it takes the 2 weeks building immunity into consideration?)

Also I’m sure Pfizer were initially recommending a gap of 3 weeks which the government then extended to 12 weeks to maximise the number of people getting their first jabs

It's quite strange a member of the JCVI is saying that when pretty much everyone in the US has had their 2nd according to the manufacturer recommended time which is 21 days gap for Pfizer and 28 days for Moderna.

Mine is booked 8 weeks after the first which was the earliest time I could book, but actually feels "late" considering Moderna themselves say 28 days or 6 weeks at most.

WindyScales · 02/07/2021 16:59

I just booked my second jab, the dates available were for a minimum of 8 weeks.

In a similar conundrum re going to Malta and hoping to start trying at walk in centres from next week (4 weeks after my first Pfizer). Fingers crossed.

aplo · 02/07/2021 17:03

Pfizer recommend 14-21 days between doses and consider vaccine to be fully effective 7 days after the second jab. Different countries have their own recommendations that are based on availability of vaccine and vaccine rollout policies.

EasterIssland · 02/07/2021 17:53

Yeah I’m Spanish and they’ve ir 3 weeks after

BoomChicka · 02/07/2021 19:15

4 week gap in my area.

shouldistop · 02/07/2021 19:30

It's 8 weeks where I am

Medstudent12 · 02/07/2021 19:32

It’s not as effective. On the news today. Better to space them out.

Rillington · 02/07/2021 20:27

It's 8 weeks minimum here.

Cookerhood · 02/07/2021 22:46

I've jabbed people with a 3 week gap if they walk in. We accept them if they turn up. Mind you, we also jab 16 & 17 year olds so may get told to stop it.

FizzyPink · 02/07/2021 22:47

I don’t suppose you’re in SE London @Cookerhood Grin

PansyIvy · 02/07/2021 22:53

I thought it was 12 weeks minimum if you’re under 40?
