Number of antibodies after your vaccine 1st & 2nd jab

Hi,

I was given AstraZeneca. I would have preferred an mRNA vaccine, but I'm in the UK so didn't get any choice (other than waiting).

After the first jab my antibodies were 25 U/ml and after the second, 978 U/ml

I did the blood tests on day 33 after each vaccine.

Roche test.

What were your antibody levels and which vaccine and antibody test did you do?

I just got my positive PCR test result.

@StrongLegs @SurferWoman thanks for the article, very interesting

Hi,

Just reporting back another week further on to let you know what it feels like having a covid infection with a given antibody level (182 U/mL).

I'm sorry to say it, but it really hasn't been great - though still not as ghastly as last time.

I went through a really difficult patch a few days ago of being terribly dehydrated, and frantically drinking water all day to try to get rid of vertigo, and it was really hard. Also I kept feeling as though I was just slightly losing consciousness, which was a bit worrying. I eventually made up rehydration salts from Lo Sodium Salt and sugar, and that helped, but it's been a very difficult few days. I've now been living on plain potatoes or boiled rice for 11 days, which is really a long time. My BMI is only 17.6.

I'm torn now, because the vaccine gave me very bad side effects and those have also not gone away. The vaccine literally turned off my appetite and I can't bear to eat meat any more, and have lost a lot of weight.

It's a really a dilemma thinking about whether to risk having the vaccine again, or whether to risk going through this grade of covid infection again, potentially repeatedly.

Sorry not to be able to give a more cheerful report. I hope it helps others who may be thinking about what to do.

This is me with an antibody count of 182 U/mL and having Delta covid.

@StrongLegs Sorry you’ve been so unwell. Flowers

My husband and I both took the Roche antibody test. He came out at 200 U/ml after two shots of AZ, mine was maxed out at >2500 U/ml after two shots of Moderna. I had far worse side effects than him so I’m glad that suffering was for something. Very worried that my husband isn’t well protected, however. AZ has lived up to my low expectations.

StrongLegs · 01/08/2021 06:22

@IndigoC How did you get to have the Moderna one? That sounds good.

I’m early 40s, Moderna was the only alternative to AZ when they were vaccinating my age group. (Pfizer was in short supply, being stockpiled for under 40s). Thanks to info from Mumsnet I drove 80 miles to one of the few centres offering Moderna (BDC). Very glad I did now.

I'm on the Viruswatch study get a free postal antibody self test monthly.

The ONS study are now offering antibody as well as swab testing (paid in vouchers)

@IndigoC That's great that you managed to get the Moderna one. Nice work!

I see how you could be worried about your husband with his relatively lower protection. I just wanted to come back and say though, that's it is probably not so bad. Although I've had a rough time with covid this time, I had a much much worse time last March when I had it the first time.

The first time I could barely stand for 6 weeks, and had lung damage that persisted for 8 months. This time my lungs seem to be fine and I've been able to stand normally and help with housework throughout the infection, so my 182 U/mL of antibodies have definitely been worth having, even if they didn't make me bulletproof.

That’s very good to know, especially since Delta is considered potentially more severe.

Very sorry you’re going through all that again. You’d hope a severe case like your first one would grant long term immunity but it seems C19 is going to keep coming back at us.

StrongLegs · 05/08/2021 10:22

Hi @IndigoC yes covid does seem to be our new special friend doesn't it? I'm bracing myself to go back for the next jab now. What a thought. Not quite sure when to do it.

Grimbelina · 05/08/2021 10:46

Thanks StrongLegs for posting but so sorry you are have been so unwell once again.

PinkTonic · 05/08/2021 14:52

@lazymum99

Another thread on here linked to an article which referred to 250U/ml as high. I will try and find the link. I inject myself every 2 weeks with a biologic for psoriasis which targets the immune system. If I can be confident of the article then my 336 is good enough!
I am exactly the same, on biologics for psoriasis. I was vaccinated with Pfizer in January and had my second dose 5 weeks later. I just did the Roche antibody tracker through testing for all and disappointingly my result is 29.2 U/ml. I’m a bit gutted tbh. I’ve never had Covid. I did the test for natural antibodies last November which showed no exposure.
lazymum99 · 05/08/2021 15:03

They do say the antibodies drop after 6 months. Hopefully a booster will be available for us in September

ajandjjmum · 05/08/2021 16:20

I read that in France, if you've had Covid, you are only given one vaccination to bring your antibodies up to a certain level.

Also seen that in the UK we are looking to use Pfizer boosters, even for those who had the AZ vaccine initially.

StrongLegs · 09/08/2021 08:09

@ajandjjmum that might be good to move to Pfizer. I was thinking that trying a different one might be good.

Dumpypumpy · 19/08/2021 12:58

@MrsKypp my partners 5 week post moderna levels are over 2500u/ml compared to my 5wk post AZ of 500u/ml !
