Delta variant symptoms?

Farinaz · 01/07/2021 09:45

DC has a runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, and is whinging all the time and refusing to eat. No fever. Could it be Covid? I’ve heard that Delta Covid has runny nose as a symptom.

Yes, he should get PCR tested.

nannynick · 01/07/2021 09:55

Yes those could be symptoms.

I’ve called 111 and they said the 3 main symptoms haven’t changed and she’s not eligible to be tested unless she has headache, continuous cough and fever 🤷‍♀️

Could you do a lateral flow?
Not as accurate, but a positive LFT triggers eligibility for a PCR.

LindaEllen · 01/07/2021 10:08

If it was me, knowing that so many people have tested positive with those symptoms, I'd be saying your child had a fever to enable you to get a test.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/07/2021 10:16

Seems like an appropriate time to develop a slight fever.

wjg65ka · 01/07/2021 10:17

My DS has these symptoms, thankfully he was negative. I went online and booked a PCR anyway despite the symptoms being different, as he had the symptoms of the new variant

DarceyDashwood · 01/07/2021 10:22

Me and my DS have a runny nose and I also have a sore throat and a headache. No cough, temp or loss of taste/smell. Literally feels like a cold. We’ve both just tested positive! (I tested positive on a LFT first then booked PCRs for us all which came back positive)

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 01/07/2021 10:27

Do a LFT - if negative I would give antihistamine as the pollen is horrific just now. My hay fever is horrendous & my 10 yr old seems to have grown into it too Sad

This. My hayfever has also been horrendous worst its ever been which has made me do 3 tests this week to be sure 2 LFT 1 PCR all negative.
fedup078 · 01/07/2021 10:33

My 90 yr old grandmother has developed hay fever this year for the first time in her life
If you read the list of symptoms now it's pretty much every symptom of any illness going
Plenty of tests available though even if you have to make something up to get one .

That is so stupid. Lockdown here we come.
roguetomato · 01/07/2021 11:12

Tbh, for piece of your mind, I would say she has headache or fever. Better be safe than sorry.

SpringRainbow · 01/07/2021 11:18

There are calls for sore throat, headache, and fatigue to be added to the list of official symptoms.

However, you could always just say she has a fever.

Or you could do a LFT and if it’s positive then get a PCR.

nickEcave · 01/07/2021 11:28

My year 6 daughter took a LF test that was negative a day before she tested positive on a PCR. Symptoms were headache and sore throat. No cough and no temperature. I dont know anyone who has had a positive LF and suspect that they are pretty worthless.

Lottie4 · 01/07/2021 11:32

I took my DC for a test as she qualified as a contact (and she was worried she had it and might have passed it on to others, so for reassurance only). I drove her and was told I also qualified as a contact of a contact. As I qualified with no immediately contact or symptoms, I'd say just say she has one of the symptoms - hopefully it'll put your mind at rest, if not, it'll protect her friends, school staff, family and staff at any venues you might visit. Most test results are back in 24 hours.

SciFiScream · 01/07/2021 11:53

No one in my household had any traditional symptoms. We've all tested positive.

DH was told off for booking a PCR as he has no symptoms but positive result arrived this morning. (Tested yesterday).

I'm glad he was tested because today was supposed to be the day he could go out and about. Now we know he can't.

Notstrongandstable · 01/07/2021 12:03

Just lie!
Article on the Guardian this morning..scientists urging the government to broaden the symptoms.
I have been v tired snd v mild headache all week. Don't countless LFT all negative but I've lied snd booked a PCR for this afternoon. We're going camping this weekend snd I need to be certain it's not Covid

Cornettoninja · 01/07/2021 13:20

From the latest ZOE update:

This means that many people who are infected might not get tested and could still be spreading the virus to their loved ones and the wider community

However, you can get a test through the ZOE COVID Symptom Study if you log any of the known symptoms in the app

You can (and I would) just lie about a fever and get a test if you’re concerned but if you do it as part of the ZOE study at least it’s recognising the right symptoms. The official trio isn’t enough but if we’re all just lying to get tested there’s no other route officially collecting common symptoms so the government are even less likely to change their criteria iyswim. We’re just adding to the official numbers showing a fever is a common symptom.

roguetomato · 01/07/2021 13:28

@Cornettoninja, I've just watched the update and came to post too. Totally agree. Hopefully gov will update the symptoms soon.

Dragonn · 01/07/2021 13:30

My hay-fever symptoms have been awful too. I feel chesty. I never feel chesty. High up though. Not near lungs. We just ended isolation 2 days ago and all lateral flows and 1 PCR have said negative but I feel worse now.

Notstrongandstable · 01/07/2021 13:47

I've got a question for the Zoe users...if it recommends you get tested for symptoms outside of the three main ones do others in your household still have to isolate?
This is a deal breaker for me. Like everyone my kids have missed lots of school but between us we've taken about 10 PCR tests since they became widely available. Which obviously entails everyone isolati g even just for the one day while awaiting results. I get ill with viral type things regularly and couldn't really have my kids off school once a month just because I'd been told by Zoe to get a test iyswim

Notstrongandstable · 01/07/2021 13:48

Just to add, when in all likelihood it is not Covid

Cornettoninja · 01/07/2021 13:50

@Notstrongandstable as far as I know, no the whole household doesn’t have to isolate if it’s a ZOE triggered test. Officially you’re being tested for research purposes and could be asked to rule out symptoms as much as identify them. I think it’s the same rules as other research tests (like ONS and the NHS siren study).

If you actually strongly suspected covid then there’s a moral argument that you probably should but the real world doesn’t necessarily work like that. My ex-employer wouldn’t have accepted me being off until receiving the results of a research test.

No and in theory neither would you as you don't have one of the three main symptoms, however if I did suspect without the main symptoms I would try really hard to avoid contact with others until I got the PCR test back.
