Most of the school isolating now. What's happening with your DCS school?

Two entire year groups off and at least half of the remaining two year groups are isolating now at the junior school. The Infants school is starting to get a couple cases creep in so I imagine it will follow suit shortly. Thankfully the children with covid seem to only be suffering a very mild illness or are asymptomatic.

What's happening with your schools? We had a fair few cases before the last lockdown. But nothing this severe. I can see why they're looking to change the rules about school isolation, but seeing how quickly it's spread through the school I'm mixed on what seems like the right approach.

We are in the West Mids. DD’s primary had v few cases last year and none this year until this week when 4 classes closed. A local primary has closed completely.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 30/06/2021 09:59

I have my yr 8 and yr 10 off.

This is the 3rd time my yr 8 has been sent home. since the 14th may he has had 12 days of schooling and zero positive tests. This is the 1st time for my yr 10 who was doing exams all this week.

I am seriously at my wits end now.

I'm so worried about our holiday. We got a bargain week away in away caravan because we booked just before the road map was announced. If the kids get isolated in the last week or term our holiday is fucked. We'd never be able to afford to rearrange the holiday now and I doubt we'd find anywhere else in the summer holidays anyway.

We are currently at a total of over 160 cases since September now, so you can imagine the number of isolation periods we have had. Some have been isolated cases, several have been outbreaks with more than 5 testing positive within a week whilst in isolation. DPs school in Bolton is pretty similar (I teach in Manchester). Both large secondaries. Both schools currently have bubbles out with several cases each.

Our biggest problem is staff right now to be honest; we had a few leave at Christmas, multiple have had COVID and several are still not right, with a few off and after months and a few still on a phased return.only since years 11 &13 have left have we not had to have external supply in (our record was 11 externals all week!)

APurpleSquirrel · 30/06/2021 10:07

Tiny primary school in South West - have only had one case since the start, & that was last week in the preschool. Doesn't appear to have spread, no further cases or bubbles bursting so hoping we can make it till end of term.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 30/06/2021 10:13

I've got one DC in the nursery attached to school and one DC in the upper school. So school has years Nursery through to year 6. No cases since they returned after Christmas. And we live in a 'high risk' area with surge testing and pop-up vaccination clinics.

Honestly, since March 2020, there has been one class closed for one day while the teacher had a pcr done. Other than that, nothing. One of my sons (SEN and definitely needed to he in) has been in full time since June last year when his younger started every other week. Both in full time since September, they had one day off while the little one was tested after he developed a cough during the tail end of a cold, but that's it.

I’ve two dds in the same secondary school. Lots of class bubbles have burst.
This has been happening for the last 3/4 weeks.
A few teachers isolating so that’s causing some issues now.
A secondary school near us had 500 pupils/staff isolating last week!
They were talking about closing it, but it’s remained open for now
We are in Cumbria

LBOCS2 · 30/06/2021 10:23

3 form entry primary school (nursery to year 6). We've got, I think, 5 classes out at the moment including all of reception. I'm not sure that there has been a week in which every class has been in since they went back.

HelloMrHound · 30/06/2021 10:27

Our primary has had no cases, their last day is today thankfully (Scotland). I heard the high school has one year group off and one of the other primary schools has 2 year groups off plus the nursery as well.

Landslidelife · 30/06/2021 10:38

Secondary all year 9 isolating (34 cases)
Some small groups isolating in other years. (24 cases)
The whole school is being mass tested (NHS have set up in the car park) and then they can't go back till they get a negative (and a minimum of two days off). It's not been bad throughout till two weeks ago. All trips /sports day etc been cancelled.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/06/2021 10:42

We have 2 year groups out of 7 in (primary). For my two it's the first isolation so we've done well to get this far. Some year groups are on their second. First round since Christmas other than some keyworker children affected around Jan/ Feb, but they always were most likely to be exposed.

Local rates are begining to rise, but with vaccination being ahead of average around here, it's stayed much lower than surrounding areas for a good while. Hopefully it's just a rough 2-3 weeks then settles down as immunity to exposure builds up from the relatively small pool not protected by vaccines.

BG2015 · 30/06/2021 10:42

We have Y2,Y6 and Reception isolating. And 9 staff. We have 5 confirmed cases across those classes, 4 of them are siblings.

We predict there will be more.

We're in Staffordshire

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 30/06/2021 10:43

year 6 have just missed out on their residential trip as the bubble burst. So awful for them - it's been postponed twice already. Rest of the primary school are in, but my DC's class have had two isolation periods this academic year.

Secondary school is isolating who they deem to be close contacts only. Not sure how they work it out, but it's meant that DC1 has stayed in school when lots of her classmates have been off.

bit nervous about our (UK) holiday - we go a week after they break up, and I'm now wishing I'd booked for late August.

I'm pulling my ds out the last week as we are booked first week of school holidays.

Whatever he misses, he misses. He has 2 big dental appointments anyway that week so would have missed a morning and an afternoon. Am going to tell school he is self isolating to access the treatment. As once it starts he needs to complete the treatment.

AliceLivesHere · 30/06/2021 13:11

Constant bursting of ridiculous bubbles. No one in hospital still (you can check your number each week on the BBC website), no deaths so all quite pointless now.

This sending home of perfectly healthy children because someone has it is foolish

clopper · 30/06/2021 13:14

aliceliveshere
Totally agree. Isolating the healthy!

TeddingtonTrashbag · 30/06/2021 13:18

London Secondary-a handful isolating but not because of school contacts.

PicsInRed · 30/06/2021 13:39

We have half the school out, and with siblings in different year groups, and cases in multi-year- group clubs, the entire school will probably be closed by next week.

This needs to stop now.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 30/06/2021 13:41

Several cases last Monday prompted half of year 10 isolating. Loads more cases this Monday in several years and by the end of the day they gave up and closed the whole school for 2 weeks. Few more cases reported since. Whole school has to be PCR tested (just about to post ours).

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 30/06/2021 13:43

No isolating at secondary school, DS2's class were off last week but had a full online curriculum, he only missed out on PE and running about in the playground which, considering he has ADHD, he coped with extremely well.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 30/06/2021 13:46

Rural South East, secondary school of around 700 pupils (less now as y11 out).
whataballbag · 30/06/2021 14:36

dS bubble burst Sunday and he tested positive on Monday, 4 kids plus teacher tested positive in his class so far

frozendaisy · 30/06/2021 14:41

Secondary has a mobile PCR testing crew in tomorrow to do the remainder of the school who isn't already isolating, permission from parents required.

PlantWitch · 30/06/2021 14:54

NE here (Sunderland) Eldest at sen school, two cases but this has only happened very recently.

Youngest has had none that I know of despite the cases climbing rapidly in our area.
