Most of the school isolating now. What's happening with your DCS school?

Two entire year groups off and at least half of the remaining two year groups are isolating now at the junior school. The Infants school is starting to get a couple cases creep in so I imagine it will follow suit shortly. Thankfully the children with covid seem to only be suffering a very mild illness or are asymptomatic.

What's happening with your schools? We had a fair few cases before the last lockdown. But nothing this severe. I can see why they're looking to change the rules about school isolation, but seeing how quickly it's spread through the school I'm mixed on what seems like the right approach.

Cambridgeshire. We’ve so far been extremely lucky as a region, compared to many.

Schools have managed the changing environment extremely well. Isolated cases mostly.

This week, however, we have a small group of cases in one year - that year are now home-schooling until the end of term.

I think the bubbles and precautions in school should remain. It makes no sense to withdraw the simple precautions completely - not while the virus is still very much in circulation. (Former molecular virologist)

CeaselessWatcher · 30/06/2021 08:56

@whinge - I am asking myself that! All I can think is that a child turned up with symptoms, was quickly sent home, took a lateral flow test and was positive. So I guess if they take a PCR or whatever it’s called and it negative the year will go back - it seems unlikely though.

Northumberlandlass · 30/06/2021 08:57

NE here - sixth form were sent home for 10 days as circuit breaker a few weeks ago, now all Yr 10 at home, large number of year 9’s being told to self isolate.

But it’s ok, as 45k can go to Wembly & pubs can be rammed…Hmm

PurpleyBlue · 30/06/2021 08:57

Schools doing their best round here but I think people have been mixing instead of self isolating so they keep going back only to be isolated again.

Howshouldibehave · 30/06/2021 08:58

All of year 12 and year 8 out at DC’s school. Back to wearing masks in lessons. Two classes out in the infants and 3 in the juniors at mine.

Pickersgill · 30/06/2021 09:01

NE here and no bursting bubbles in our schools yet, although I've heard about lots of other schools closing or on the verge of closing. Am very frustrated that DD's school keep relaxing precautions when all this is going on without a thought for the clinically vulnerable kids.

randomlyLostInWales · 30/06/2021 09:16

Seems to be okay here - don't know ant school with any out at the minute.

Though secondaries here still wear masks all day - and entire year groups get sent home with one postive test.

Checked on the BBC sites this area is below the national infection rate for most of 18 months it's been one of the highest areas but it does now have one of the higher vaccination rates in counrty.

Just over the border has climbing rates but they do have lower vaccination rates. I'm hoping my children make it to the end of the year without another 10 days isolation but we'll have to wait and see.

Dementedswan · 30/06/2021 09:20

NE here, all of ks2 at primary are isolating.

AbsoluteMadness · 30/06/2021 09:23

No cases in our school at the moment. The last one was March (2 bubbles out... siblings tested positive) and before that November (my daughter’s class had to isolate as their teacher tested positive). We’ve been lucky.

MarshaBradyo · 30/06/2021 09:25

We just had ten days due to staff positive LFT, closed 6 classes

Back now, tg, primary so no student LFT

Secondary doing full PCR again as they did at start of term, yr11 so not there

Clickbait · 30/06/2021 09:26

DC1 (year 10) - finished an isolation period a couple of weeks ago.
DC2 (year 8) - there are currently two cases in her year group so lots of kids are off isolating, but luckily she's not been identified as a close contact of either of them.
DC3 (year 6) - touch wood no cases yet at his primary school. A couple of kids are off isolating because of contacts outside school.

I’m grateful to say we’ve made it to the summer holidays here. I the bubble stress has gone. We’ve been very lucky other than a few odd days waiting for test results but semi rural school has about 100 pupils in totals so lower risk.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 30/06/2021 09:27

No cases in ours & no bubbles burst at all since they went back in September. I'm very twitchy that it's all going to go tits up over the next 21 days/ 15 school days (inc today) & they'll end up having multiple years go off & having to close early for summer.

Most of the local secondary schools have years out but the other primaries seem to be doing ok too.

TheDukeissoHot1 · 30/06/2021 09:29

2 whole classes off at our primary, my DS(Y6) currently isolating. 3rd period of isolation for some children since beginning of March.

Local secondary currently has over 100 off isolating too. Hearing of similar in other neighbouring schools too. Yorkshire & Humber area.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 30/06/2021 09:30

None yet but dd’s residential was cancelled due to cases at the venue. Kids were just about to get on the coach. Sad

I’m terrified of bubbles bursting this week - dd is competing in the nationals on Sunday - she has been training for months - every time my phone rings I feel sick. She will be heartbroken if she can’t compete.

OddestSock · 30/06/2021 09:31

Nothing currently, but 2 classes had to isolate shortly after the half term break because of confirmed cases. We had bern mainly unaffected prior to that (one class isolated in October and then a small keyworker bubble at the end of last lockdown).

treenu · 30/06/2021 09:31

South East - secondary closed.

Frenziedfishes · 30/06/2021 09:32

Rural midlands. Both the school I work at and son’s primary have year groups off with multiple cases in each.
Friend who is a high school teacher has covid and is feeling rough (had 1 vaccine)

derailment · 30/06/2021 09:36

Locally, we have two secondary school and both have two year groups out each. Out of eight primaries in the area, two have two year groups out and one has one.

My child's very small primary school has (so far) had zero cases since reopening and only two in total over the whole pandemic (the week before Christmas). So no changes for us as yet. They are being super cautious about sending children home for testing with so much as a sniffle.

Fingers crossed we can plod on until the end of term. Currently some form of transition plans for moving classes are still in place, just adapted, so am hoping the children can still have them. They can't mix with other bubbles but they can visit their new classrooms and meet their new teachers outside. Sports Days are taking place in class bubbles with no parents allowed.

HighlandCowbag · 30/06/2021 09:48

Ds in year 2. 3 classes out, half the kids are missing from ds class. Locally been classed as an outbreak area whatever that means. Transition days cancelled as is school sports day. Another local primary completely closed due to teachers self isolating.

They can't carry on like this in September. Dd supposed to be on work placement (yr 12). Hers cancelled as person she was supposed to be shadowing is self isolating as a contact. 4 of her classmates have had theirs cancelled as working in primary schools and the school don't want to take additional risk.

It's all a bit weird. I don't think people are scared anymore, just frustrated and confused when everything is opening up but schools are closing down.

Mintjulia · 30/06/2021 09:52

Business as usual, no-one off as far as I'm aware.

Compulsory home testing on Wednesdays and Weekends. Masks on the school bus and in corridors, but otherwise fairly normal.

Seven school days to go until we break up for the summer. Fingers crossed.

AThousandStarlings · 30/06/2021 09:53

Three whole year groups and the nursery.

Fastforwardtospring · 30/06/2021 09:54

DS secondary, 2 complete year groups and half of year 12, incs my DS. DD secondary seems to have permanent bubbles being sent home. Our PCR testing site was extremely busy yesterday. We are in the South.

LadyCatStark · 30/06/2021 09:55

The odd pockets of children are off but DS’s school (state grammar school) don’t send home full year groups.

Londonmummy00 · 30/06/2021 09:56

Small North London primary.
3 entire year groups out due to a ‘staff member’ testing positive LFT (PE teacher most prob)
