Sons bubble burst

tipte · 29/06/2021 15:23

My son is 8 and has ASD. Up until now, there's not been any cases in his school.

But today I got a call saying his classes bubble has burst so he needs to isolate. I'm just wondering how, as he won't understand why he can't go out or to school, he will also be out of routine and very bored and I want to avoid him having any meltdowns if possible.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Imagine historians looking back on this period. Children (with no symptoms and probably not ill) shut away repeatedly for ten days at a
time. No exercise (unless you have a big garden and a willing child). No clubs, friends, no fun. Over and over again. Yet 60,000 can pack Wembley...

Its beyond cruel at this point
MarshaBradyo · 29/06/2021 20:02

Yep the other thing I don’t get is the talk on unethical to give vaccine to children as benefit to another group

But we don’t say it’s unethical to isolate children repeatedly and damage physical and mental health for another group

Why are so few adults responding to this. Marginally now in media, but only just and slow.

Delatron · 29/06/2021 20:05

I don’t understand why it’s being accepted. I mean I personally feel helpless (apart from writing to my mp). We’ve actually been quite lucky with no isolations but that doesn’t mean I’m not furious on behalf of all the kids that are (and parents).

morticiiiaaddams · 29/06/2021 20:06

@FizzyBiscuits

Do NOT do was PP have suggested FFS! Makes a mockery of whole system, whether you agree with it or not.

I'm also SI with an autistic child. You've just got to suck it up and stay in.

OP, what does he enjoy? Can you intersperse school activities with things he enjoys? Write a list of things and have him choose? We write out our day on a whiteboard so DC knows what the plan is.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Bollocks to that.

The system is making a mockery of us.

Hancock can shag about.

Football fans can gather in their thousands.

They can do one.

Because really you have no choice. If your dcs bubble bursts you can't rock up at school, they won't accept your child. There's nothing you can do
bettybyebye · 29/06/2021 20:08

Totally agree with everything @Delatron has said.

The fact that people are blindly following this without question beggars belief

MarshaBradyo · 29/06/2021 20:11

All the parents were cross over 100 children isolating due to one case, but there was sod all we could do

I wrote to MP but really it’s just incredibly frustrating

Delatron · 29/06/2021 20:16

No I know that @Comedycook but as a population we are not, en mass, voicing our objections to the government.

I don’t know what the answer is. I just know it’s appaul

morticiiiaaddams · 29/06/2021 20:17

School won't accept them but I'm damned if I'm keeping my healthy kids locked in the house for ten days every time they may potentially have been in the vicinity of someone with covid. Just no. I've had enough. Multiple periods of isolation and so much missed school. Hellish days of home schooling. An autistic child that doesn't know whether they are coming or going. Nah. I'm completely done with it.
I will keep a distance. I won't go to busy places. But I'm absolutely not being under house arrest any longer.

Delatron · 29/06/2021 20:17

What I wouldn’t do is keep my child inside though.

PumpkinKlNG · 29/06/2021 20:20

Well I think you are lucky! I have 2 kids with asd and we’ve had multiple isolations so I think you are very lucky if this is your first!! You are not the only person with an autistic child that’s had to isolate, we’ve Had to 8 times now 😐 those that say just go out anyway aren’t you worried about being spotted by someone from the school?

CantGetNoSleep73 · 29/06/2021 20:21

You CAN go for walks - read the NAS website. If your child is struggling you can go out. I can't believe some are saying stay in. Have you seen the football, horse racing etc - it's not children making a mockery of the system.

So much for education first 🤬

Baileysforchristmas · 29/06/2021 20:22

It’s not just 60,000 in the stadium, there are 100’s and thousands watching round London, loads of fan zones have been set up, big screens , pop up bars. It will be one big party in London tonight, no one will stop it, which I don’t have a problem with but children shouldn’t be isolating anymore unless they have a positive result. I would not be keeping any healthy child at home for 10 days, this is insane.

Pootle40 · 29/06/2021 20:26

Go for walks

Delatron · 29/06/2021 20:26

It’s not a competition. I do not have autistic children. We have done zero isolations. Doesn’t mean I don’t have huge sympathy and also anger for everyone going through this.

What I don’t understand is the lack of anger from many. Just acceptance. I’m not suggesting you rock up at school. But take them out for exercise!

MarshaBradyo · 29/06/2021 20:28

Oh don’t get me wrong I’m totally with you re anger

I’ve only had one isolation recently and I thought I might explode or something at the unfairness and ridiculousness of it all

We did what we could to mitigate it

Comedycook · 29/06/2021 20:29

I think lots of parents feel the same. I was out today and saw loads of kids out during school hours with their parents walking round and in the shops. I think lots of parents aren't keeping their dc indoors and I don't blame them.

It's a joke.

If the government wasn't an absolute useless laughing stock and huge sporting events weren't going ahead then perhaps there would be more people complying. But I think this is the last straw for most people now especially parents of school age kids.

LemonCake79 · 29/06/2021 20:31

I agree with posters saying go for a walk each day. Just pick a quiet place and time. It's nonsense to suggest that a well child walking somewhere quiet poses a risk.

In terms of activities this might be a bit weird but might be be interested in the tennis? I had Wimbledon fortnight off school with chicken pox when I was 9 and developed a life long love of tennis as I got really into the tournament. I learnt the rules and scoring and my Dad bought me a BBC magazine with a score card I loved filing in.

duckme · 29/06/2021 20:38

I honestly can't believe how many people are still willing to lock up their healthy children for ten days, potentially over and over again, for a virus which is still stated as being 'a mild illness for most'.
Take your poor child for a walk OP, let him let off some steam.

PumpkinKlNG · 29/06/2021 20:40

No it’s not a competition but many of us have had to do it and just got on with it but From what I’m reading on here many people aren’t sticking to the rules anymore so I don’t think we will either, the only thing is a lot of the staff live local to us and we have seen them when out and about so I would be worried about being spotted. I think anyone that has not had to isolate has been super super lucky! Weve just done 10 days with my son and then I get an email to say now my daughters class needs to isolate

NakedAttraction · 29/06/2021 20:46

OP this isn’t the first time you’ve had to deal with this. What did you do when the schools were closed?

PicsInRed · 29/06/2021 20:48

For those asking "why": misogyny. Men will kick off, so we better give them some freedoms back. Women and the kids they primarily care for? They can just shut up and suck it up for the Greater Good whilst execs, football fans and Matt Hancock do whatever they want. Misogyny. That's why.

Yep agree. Men are very important aren't they? Women and children can get stuffed as far as theyre concerned
