Not sure how readable this will be. It's a paragraph from the 23 page consent Oxford trialists are given. It was published in April this year and is for stage 3/4 trialists.
The last sentence is pertinent.
Unfortunately results of the trials won't be published for at least a year after trial end so at least 2 years from now.
It's clear they are uncertain whether covid could be worse for some vaccinated people. I guess the inevitable winter wave will give us a better idea, though I very much suspect it will be near impossible to find stats since the recording methods are inadequate and I don't think they'll want the public knowing such stats.
@dingit hope everyone in your family starts feeling better soon. When you say quite ill did it warrant medical intervention? Or were they more ill compared to the others?

I’m unvaccinated so far…and I’m 40.
No medical intervention for ds. Dm has cancer and she had visit from rapid response team and was hooked up to a monitor.
Both have recovered well.

How long ago did you have the jabs @WhoUsedMyName?
That makes a difference to the efficacy too, you need to be two weeks clear of second jab for the full protection.
Totally agree you would feel worse and be more infectious without vaccine as it cuts your viral load!

WhoUsedMyName · 29/06/2021 08:55

@Toty interesting read

Yes maybe your both right it's just the unknown still isn't it really.
No. It’s really not unknown. The vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infection. Infection is completely prevented in some cases, but in others the infection still occurs but much less severely. In some cases, unfortunately, the vaccine doesn’t take at all.

You don’t know how ill you would have been if you had not been vaccinated.

All the evidence shows that vaccines are breaking the link between infections and deaths.

It’s difficult to be objective while you’re the one feeling unwell though. Flowers

@firstidrinkthecoffee

As hospitals are filling up again with COVID patients needing ventilators I cannot see why people would not vaccinate!!! All patients on ventilators are ridiculously unvaccinated, in areas where COVID is high and the uptake on vaccinations is low, doesn't take much math here. The vaccination will not prevent you from getting Covid just stop you from getting it severely.
The vaccination will not prevent you from getting Covid

Why do people still say this? It’s bizarre.
