So me,dh +dc currently self isolating as we have all tested positive for covid. We all have similar symptoms the dc not so severe but myself being the worst and I'm the only one who's had both vaccinations!?

gnushoes · 28/06/2021 21:24

Don't see your point? You weren't disadvantaged by having the vaccine and you were probably advantaged. End of. Get well soon.

Lucidas · 28/06/2021 21:41

Newsflash: 95% effective vaccine doesn’t protect everyone.

Get well soon.

weareofftobuttonmoon · 28/06/2021 22:07

@Bonifacethethird

How do people seem to be so sure that the OP would've been iller without it? Total conjecture!
It really REALLY is not conjecture. It's facts based on clinical trials where the end-points were death and hospitalisation. And all vaccines reduced this.

So it's very, very likely that the OP would have felt worse if she was unvaccinated.

Divebar2021 · 28/06/2021 22:19

They’ve just said on the news that it is estimated that 27,000 further people would have died had it not been for the vaccination programme.

Whyevencare · 28/06/2021 22:27

@Parker231

There isn’t an unknown. You had the vaccine, got Covid but aren’t in hospital attached to a ventilator. The vaccine has done what it is meant to
This a nonsense comment.

Not everyone who gets covid and is unvaccinated will end up on a ventilator, wow some people really have lost touch with reality.

It's been well publicised from the start that most people will have a mild illness, have you forgotten this? Genuine question.

Bonifacethethird · 28/06/2021 22:28

@weareofftobuttonmoon

That doesn't follow. Less severe illness in the vaccine group in the trials doesn't mean that every individual who has a breakthrough case would've been worse without the vaccine.

Parker231 · 28/06/2021 22:29

Where did I say all the unvaccinated would end up on a ventilator? The vaccine has been an amazing success in reducing the numbers requiring hospitalised and numbers dying. Although you can still catch Covid post vaccinations, the chances of it being a serious illness are dramatically reduced.

PurpleDaisies · 28/06/2021 22:33

You already have been vaxxed. Why is your title “to vacs or not to vacs”? That’s not an option for you any more. Confused

Bonifacethethird · 28/06/2021 22:34

*that should read "severely ill" rather than "worse"

dingit · 28/06/2021 22:51

Our household:
Dd not vaccinated, not ill
Ds not vaccinated, quite ill
Dh single vaccinated AZ moderately ill
Me not vaccinated didn't get covid
Dm double vaccinated Az quite ill
Dsis double vaccinated (Pfizer) didn't get covid

It's very random 🤷‍♀️

MrsFezziwig · 28/06/2021 22:56

Presumably you’re stuck in the house and bored OP? Otherwise you wouldn’t have time to be wondering whether you should do something you’ve already done?

Namechanged4thi5 · 28/06/2021 23:21

@dingit hope everyone in your family starts feeling better soon. When you say quite ill did it warrant medical intervention? Or were they more ill compared to the others?

I’m unvaccinated so far…and I’m 40.

SummerIsComing2019 · 28/06/2021 23:21

Stop being so pedantic, she clearly said above that she is questioning the vaccination in relation to her children. Her husband will still get the vaccine but she is not sure the children should.
God forbid someone says anything remotely not positive about the vaccineHmm

Dustyboots · 28/06/2021 23:57

What I find interesting/strange is that prior to vaccinations, and still in the unvaccinated, some people will get Covid badly but plenty will get it very mildly or asymptomaticaly.

But now if anyone gets it mildly it's 'because of the vaccine'.

Why? As I said - hundreds/thousands were getting Covid mildly before.

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 07:44

@Dustyboots Noooooo you are not supposed to say things like that…you should come here and start screaming anti vaxxer to anyone who dares ask a question about the vaccine…

bumblingbovine49 · 29/06/2021 08:00
@LubaLuca yes so if I wasn't vaccinated what was the chances of me being any worse than what I have been. No one will ever no so therefore it is unknown
Actually it is not unknown. You absolutely do know that you are far more likely to be less Ill if you have the vaccine than not. Every research study and real life observation that has been done in the last year has shown that very clearly.

On an individual level for you personally you are so ill after having the vaccine either because

1 - you are one of very small percentage of people who the vaccine does not work at all for , which can't be predicted ( yet) before you get the vaccine and you are no worse off than if you didn't have the vaccine

2- you are somebody who might have been much more ill, than you are without having had the vaccine

 1. You have a new as yet unknown variant that the vaccine is much less effective against

None of those ( except maybe the last which is pretty unlikely ) mean you should not have got the vaccine in the first place or in any way show that it is not worth having.

wasthataburp · 29/06/2021 08:08

"You had the vaccine, got Covid but aren’t in hospital attached to a ventilator. "

She has a 6 month old so assuming she's not elderly , this would be extremely unlikely vaccine or not.

WhoUsedMyName · 29/06/2021 08:11

@PurpleDaisies I'm now not sure given the chance If I would do the dc

OP posts:
WhoUsedMyName · 29/06/2021 08:12

@dingit thank you. A comment without an argument this is what I wanted to see Smile it is all very random

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 29/06/2021 08:13

Vaccinating children is a totally difference balance of risks and benefits given children hardly ever get seriously ill. That’s why the JCVI are still deciding whether to even recommend children are vaccinated or not.

WhoUsedMyName · 29/06/2021 08:14

Thank you @SummerIsComing2019 Smile

OP posts:
headintheproverbial · 29/06/2021 08:19

There is a massive amount of evidence that those vaccinated are FAR less likely to be hospitalised and FAR less likely to die.

What on earth are you wittering on about?

WhoUsedMyName · 29/06/2021 08:19

@MrsFezziwig yes stuck in the house I'm self isolating aren't I.
Far from bored but yes maybe slightly more time as I havnt been on MN since being pregnant and I actually haven't had a chance to look at anyone else's thread hence making my own, which was probs a mistake as I forgot about the judgement for asking questions

OP posts:
firstidrinkthecoffee · 29/06/2021 08:24

As hospitals are filling up again with COVID patients needing ventilators I cannot see why people would not vaccinate!!!
All patients on ventilators are ridiculously unvaccinated, in areas where COVID is high and the uptake on vaccinations is low, doesn't take much math here.
The vaccination will not prevent you from getting Covid just stop you from getting it severely.
