Under 40 second jab - how soon is yours booked?

Mine is currently booked for 17 July, but I'm wondering if I can bring it closer. On the NHS site you have to cancel before you can see new slots, so it's a bit of a risk. Has anyone (under 40, no health conditions) had any luck?

@shedoesnotreallyseeme how long has it been since your first dose and what vaccine did you get? 😊 and roughly where are you located? (everywhere is running things differently)

I had the first dose last week (Pfizer) and was told I’ll get a letter in for my 2nd appointment 8-12 weeks from the first dose. Can go to any drop in clinic in my area for it if I’d prefer but must be at least 55 days from 1st dose

shedoesnotreallyseeme · 28/06/2021 05:55

Oh really, that's a long time - I think mine was not yet that long ago. That's useful, thank you. I had Pfizer, South East.

I am under 40 and I have changed my 2nd jab from a 12 week gap to an 8 week gap.

It let me check availability before I cancelled my original booking.

schimmelreiter · 28/06/2021 06:05

I did it very easily, although I was after AZ, also took my daughter to a drop in for Pfizer which was well organised then cancelled her appointment. We are not in the South East, however. There were second jab people at the drop in and I could have re-booked my original appointment if I'd had to - no-one took it in the time frame of my looking for a new one.

JennyWreny · 28/06/2021 06:07

As SpringRainbow says you can now see availability before you cancel your original booking. Unfortunately, I think only for the same venue. My DS18 moved his appointment from 11 to 8 weeks, although he did cancel it first as he moved to a different venue.

sylbunny · 28/06/2021 06:09

You can now see the next available appointment before you cancel. Mine is 17th and I could bring it forward to 7th but I'm away so I've left it.

Gwenhines · 28/06/2021 06:09

Under 40 here. Cancelled my 12 week appointment on NHS app and rebooked for 8 weeks. I did it at 4am so could just grab my original appointment back if nothing available, but there were heaps of slots to choose from so no need. I know 5 other people who have done the same thing (not at 4am), all under 40.

icepackquestion · 28/06/2021 06:16

I'm from the south east too and I cancelled my second and rebooked quite a few times now. There is always loads of choice and my original app has been there every time.

shedoesnotreallyseeme · 28/06/2021 06:21

Thanks - I just did it. Very helpful, thank you.

Here there are walk in vaccination clinics all over the place on different days so most people once they reach 8 weeks are just going to a walk in rather than booking an appointment.

HouseinNewOrleans · 28/06/2021 07:24

I’m in Bolton, had second Pfizer jab at 4 weeks 5 days after the first. I received a text from my GP saying I could book as it had been 4 weeks so I booked an appointment for the same day.
We have been an area of concern for a while though, I had my first jab at a vaccination bus when it was only 38-39 year olds being vaccinated nationwide I think (I’m 34).
Covid is still rife where I am, lots of friends/family have it, 2 of 3 DC are isolating because of contact at school, so I’m relieved to have the second.

DixonD · 28/06/2021 10:01

I was wary of cancelling mine too in order to bring it forward but you can now check availability. I still felt nervous doing it!

I brought mine forward to 8 weeks (I’m 38).

YetAnotherWalk · 28/06/2021 13:35

Mine is booked for 12 weeks, but our council has said once 8 weeks has passed, you can just drop into the local centre to get your 2nd (I had Pfizer) so I've left my appointment in the system, but will try and get jabbed in 2 weeks' time once my gap is 8 weeks.

ollyollyoxenfree · 28/06/2021 13:37

hoping soon we can move it to a 5-6 week gap! (or turn up at a walk in centre)

I know a couple of people who are ill with coronavirus after one jab, so don't really want to wait until august if possible

nordica · 28/06/2021 13:43

I was able to change mine to 8 weeks recently (I'm 38 and had the Moderna vaccine). 8 weeks was the shortest gap available to book.

It's next week so even if things change I'm just going to stick with the appointment I have now.

Silversun83 · 28/06/2021 14:00

Under 40 and had Pfizer. Managed to rebook mine from an 11 week to 8 week gap so mine is now middle of July.

It does bring up availability before you cancel but only at the site you have your second booked at. Mine didn't have any availability but my husband's site did so I took the chance that I'd be able to book at his and it was fine.

FizzyPink · 28/06/2021 15:43

I’ve heard of people near us in south London getting a second Pfizer jab 3 weeks after their first at one of the drop in clinics.
The system only seems to let you book after 8 weeks at the moment although I do keep trying. Once it’s been 3 weeks for me I’ll be trying my luck at a drop in centre

lap90 · 28/06/2021 18:42

On the NHS website, I was only able to book about 8 weeks since my first.

When I went to a walk-in centre I was able to have it 28 days after my first.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 28/06/2021 18:49

I'm under 40 and had my second at just under 5 weeks via the gp hub.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/06/2021 18:51

I'm 30, mine is mid August. I'm not going to bother moving it, I'm not particularly worried about my personal risk from Covid so I'm happy to wait.

UnbeatenMum · 28/06/2021 18:56

I had mine last week, about a 4-5 week gap, although it was booked via my GP, not on the NHS website.

EssentialHummus · 28/06/2021 18:59

I’ve heard of people near us in south London getting a second Pfizer jab 3 weeks after their first at one of the drop in clinics.

This is what I did (in s London) after a five week gap.

FizzyPink · 28/06/2021 19:01

Which one did you go to @EssentialHummus if you don’t mind?

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 28/06/2021 19:02

Yes at the science museum and Emirates stadium yesterday in London they were doing walk ins for Pfizer for any gaps over 3 weeks. Hope they will start doing that in more places .

itsgettingwierd · 28/06/2021 19:04

My ds had pfeizer in April and got his second 8 weeks later.

Our gp booked his as he's group 6 (16yo) so I think that group was specifically called for the shorter timeframe?
