What happens to track and trace once social distancing ends?

Katie517 · 27/06/2021 21:57

Just had this thought and wondered what others thought.

If July 19th goes ahead and social distancing regulations are removed from restaurants, gyms etc. what happens in terms of being a close contact? At the moment at the gym I would never be classed as a contact as equipment and class spaces are all 2m apart, the same with tables in restaurants, but if social distancing goes but track and trace remains surely we will have loads more people isolating as “close contacts? this is not a sustainable way to live to have people isolating time and time again but I haven’t heard anyone talk about this and what the plan is once we go back to “normal”

My guess is they'll do it anyway

Regulus · 27/06/2021 21:59

It continues to be the way the Royal Mail send their parcels?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 27/06/2021 22:00

Oh the TEST and trace. Track is the Royal Mail thing.

I dunno, hopefully they’ll bin it, it’s useless.

Regulus · 27/06/2021 22:02

Smidge we really need to stop meeting like this, people will get ideas

Katie517 · 27/06/2021 22:03

Sorry it’s been referred to as track and trace in all venues I have been to....

Oh I thought it was you @Regulus!

Indeed Grin

lljkk · 27/06/2021 22:05

unsustainable? do ya' think?

Canigooutyet · 27/06/2021 22:06

More people will end up deleting it because they won't be able to afford the time off work.

Just realised it's only on here I see people mention using it. I don't know anyone in rl that bothered to download to be nosy, myself included.

SGChome20 · 27/06/2021 22:07

It’s not that way in restaurants at the moment. Most restaurants are 1 metre SD so you could be classed as a contact. I know that’s not what you asked though.

I thought OP meant the places you have to give details, not the app.

Dido Harding happened.

She's failed at everything else, now she wants to fail as CEO of NHS

Katie517 · 27/06/2021 22:18

Yes I mean where you have to give details or scan in using the app, or places like gyms where they already have your details from being a member. I don’t have the app but plenty of people I know still use it for some reason!

The same will apply to workplaces such as offices etc. that have 2m distancing in place at the moment which prevents you being a contact but would mean you were should the 2m be removed. My hope is that self isolation as a contact is replaced with something less damaging to education and the ability to go to work/ get on with life.

Does anyone else do what I do? Scan then delete (when I sit down) screw the app

MarcelineMissouri · 27/06/2021 23:02

I think they will move to testing rather than isolating at some point.

It is clearly not sustainable to have healthy people carry on isolating for 10 days. I would be interested to know how many close contacts have actually gone on to be positive and how that compares to the number of people isolating.

My ds has just been off for 10 days after a positive case in his class - no one else has been unwell.

But if you scan, the details are logged already?

Fuck me, i hate tech. Even the tech journos don't seem to know how this works.

Canigooutyet · 27/06/2021 23:55

Thought you had to have the app to scan yourself in.

I ask for the paper option lol which isn't worth the waste of paper as I can tell them anything.

You can just scan the QR code

Some places won't let you order unless you scan it or have the NHS app.

Canigooutyet · 28/06/2021 00:09

Haven't come across I e of those places yet. Will be interesting to find out their solutions when a none smart is produced.
Waiting for a repair on the smart phone, using a very old phone and rather enjoy calls and texts contact only tbh and not sure if I want the other one back.

frizzyandfrazzled · 28/06/2021 07:18

It's not just the app is it though, it's being named as a contact. The numbers of close contacts you could have with nomal offices, pubs, gyms, family just on one day is almost unimaginable. We can't lift lockdown without reviewing the process surely? Imagine if say 10 bin men all went for a few drinks after work. Next day one feels ill gets a test and is positive. All 9 isolate and the councils ability to operate usual business is impacted. Same applies to most businesses tbh - I keep seeing poor hospitality businesses having to close round here due to self isolation. Both essential services and the economy could be worse off if we don't take this next step clearly and carefully.

RoseWineTime · 28/06/2021 07:27

Very good question

BoomChicka · 28/06/2021 07:52

The cynical part of me thinks that is probably the plan.. open up on the 19th, within a few weeks tons of businesses are closed due to staff isolating.. the calls for lockdown and furlough start.. oh look now we are back in lockdown because that's what the people wanted..

TheGenealogist · 28/06/2021 07:56

I am wondering how this will work for us next week in England. We live in Scotland, NHS is separate and there is a separate NHS Scotland app (which I don't have). The English app doesn't work in Scotland and vice versa.

I can;t register for the English app even if I wanted to because my address puts me in Scotland. But next week we'll be in England on holiday and hope to be going to lots of cafes and restaurants. They better not refuse me entry..

Why on earth do you think the government actually wants us to go back into lockdown? What would they be trying to achieve by that?
Angel2702 · 28/06/2021 08:25

I hope they move towards no isolating for those fully vaccinated or testing daily for close contacts.

AuntieMarys · 28/06/2021 08:30

I've deleted the app.
