Scotland update but depressing

I found it a bit depressing that Scotland have said they won’t be lifting all restrictions until august, and even then, masks will probably still be required.

Scotland aiming to lift Covid restrictions by 9 August www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-57570939

I’m in England but just feel like this is a bit depressing! Sounds like we’ll have some level of restrictions all summer and then god knows what winter holds?

Just wondered what everyone else’s thoughts were.

I strongly suspect that given the relaxation of the rules for professional football both here and in England and the lack of others having to self isolate within the football camp, today's announcement was fairly pointless as I doubt people will now follow the rules.

The Scottish government have really lost the plot. Yes let's ban travel to Manchester but say nothing of the thousands who travelled to England without a ticket for the game. Yes let's ban all singing in schools but say nothing, and in fact encourage crowds together who will be singing in full voice for the football.

I'm done.

GoldenOmber · 22/06/2021 18:11

Would also really like to know when they’re going to ditch isolation of close contacts. And not just by letting vaccinated people off, or what about kids?

ssd · 22/06/2021 19:06

I hope they keep masks for longer. I work in retail and the amount of people right in your face us unreal. A mask hopefully given a but of protection. Though wearing it all day is hellish.

DumplingsAndStew · 22/06/2021 19:16

I'm fucked off.

Even at level zero, my daughter can't socialise with her friends as her social groups are parent-supported.

But no-one fucking cares about them.

Rosehip10 · 22/06/2021 19:22

Sturgeon has a bloody cheek droning on after the tartan army and Scottish football team nil "close contacts" lies.

extravirginoliveoil · 22/06/2021 19:41

It will last until the day the kids go back to school mid August.

ssd · 22/06/2021 21:02

Level zero is still shite really

ApolloandDaphne · 22/06/2021 21:07

@HelloMissus

Do we think the Edinburgh Fringe will go ahead?
I didn't think there was going to be any Fringe at all, just some main festival events.

I am fine with waiting until august. I can do most things I need to do in level 1. I would like to start meeting some of my groups face to face rather than on zoom though.

HelloMissus · 22/06/2021 21:33

Apollo it’s definitely supposed to happen (although perhaps in a different way?).
Apparently shows go on sale from 1st July.
I’ve hotel rooms booked.
But I’d always assumed it might not happen.

NCasnottooutmyself · 22/06/2021 23:26

I am in Scotland and to be honest after the blatant disregard for rules shown in the last week or two by the powers that be- G7 summit, football VIP’s avoiding quarantine and the absolute farce that none of the Scotland team were close contacts of Gilmour to name but a few- I am certainly not having anymore of being told what to do by NS or Boris. I will use my common sense, masks when in a supermarket etc. We have been banned from indoor guests for roughly 10 months and everyone I know is fed up and at this point disregarding the rules. There is no effort from the government to keep things fair, they continually flaunt/bend rules for their own game and there is nothing we can do about it. Yet point the finger in our direction when things go wrong. We have lost 15 months of freedoms and I am not losing anymore.

Cafeaulait27 · 23/06/2021 07:43

I know @NCasnottooutmyself the Scotland team thing was fully ridiculous and corrupt. They will have been in the changing room together for longer than 15 mins at the very least. If it was a class in a school they would all be isolating.

Apparently football is more important than children’s education or normal people who need to go to work to earn a living?

I’m pleased they lost last night and went out of the euros tbh.

The BBC reporting is REALLY fucking me off this morning. Article says "Scotland aiming to lift all Covid rules by 9 August".

Except that's not true. Because Queen Nicola wants to keep masks in retail, and on public transport, and in schools. For a much longer, unspecified amount of time.

Thats so mean spirited. Lots of ordinary people were gutted last night.
emmathedilemma · 23/06/2021 08:25

@SteveArnottsWaistcoat

Just no point in the vaccinations is there? What a waste of time and money they’ve been! Makes me so angry.
If you look at the age groups who account for the most new cases there clearly is a point in the vaccinations!! www.travellingtabby.com/scotland-coronavirus-tracker/
Rosehip10 · 23/06/2021 08:26

@ssd Lots of ordinary people are "gutted" that their kids are missing out on stuff due to self-isolation/contact rules that strangely don't seem to apply to Scottish footballers.

bumbleymummy · 23/06/2021 08:28

I wonder if vaccinated people decide to get tested if they have symptoms or do they assume it’s not covid because they’ve been vaccinated.

DoucheCanoe · 23/06/2021 08:32

@bumbleymummy I've been double vaccinated since April.

I take workplace PCR tests weekly and would test if I had any symptoms.

MorrisZapp · 23/06/2021 08:41

'cases' is so misleading. I don't doubt it's an unpleasant illness but the only numbers that have material impact are hospitalisations and deaths. My son hasn't had a dental check up for two years. People with cancer are missing the early diagnoses that could save their lives.

We need to move past this.

ssd · 23/06/2021 09:00

So football fans that are gutted, dont?!?

Its not their fault that uefa or the government makes stupid decisions.

But hey, lets all slag football and the ordinary fans.

'banning' travel to Manchester makes us a laughing stock. Its 100% unenforceable for a start, rail companies aren't touching it. Our own cases are rocketing but aye, blame Liam Gallagher. Embarrassing.

NCasnottooutmyself · 23/06/2021 09:17

@Cafeaulait27 it should have been an opportunity to enforce the rules. How many children were watching that game who have needlessly had to isolate and miss out on yet more face to face education multiple times because of a close contact? All they did was show it really is one rule for them and another for us. Baffles me this is how they are choosing to lead especially as at the moment the public’s willingness to comply is at an all time low.

110APiccadilly · 23/06/2021 09:24

I'm in Wales - the BBC was quoting the Welsh Government as saying we would have restrictions for the "foreseeable future". I'm going to wait and see, but if England lift everything and we don't, we might have to start thinking about uprooting our well established lives and moving to England.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 23/06/2021 09:28

I think masks will be required to help us not catch flu. They seem to be more worried about that for this winter. I suppose because people have had limited mixing, flu hasn't spread and they don't know what to put in the flu vaccine.

I think if you live with or see someone who is vulnerable, you should continue to be careful because of flu. After all, if you are vulnerable to covid, there's a fair chance you are vulnerable to flu as well. You don't want to survive the covid pandemic and then be very ill with flu!

I thought hotels, B&Bs etc would have to reject any booking from someone with an M postcode ;)

I've got a friend who is in Scotland at the moment. He lives in Manchester, so he has just stayed there for an extra week as he can work remotely.
