Has anyone heard that some one tested positive after being vaccinated?

Just that, really. I’m 19 weeks pregnant, had my second dose of pfizer 14 weeks after the first (due to guidelines) and work as a nurse so I would like to know if anyone knows of anyone who is vaccinated but still tested positive. And if so, we’re they poorly? Did they need hospitalisation? Thanks

I’m a nurse on a Covid ward. We do have patients positive who have had both vaccines

Vaccine does not stop you catching/spreading the virus, it just hopefully reduces the seriousness of the effects if you were to get it

Kittyswhiskers · 22/06/2021 12:24

Thanks for replying, that’s what I’ve been told too but I’m a paediatric nurse so things are quite different.

Are the patients you see stil very poorly? Are they older? Do they have other comorbidities? I’m 33, white with asthma, but otherwise ok. I’m anxious they’re going to change the wfh from 28 weeks for nurses. Which is august for me.

I know a couple (both over 80) who got Covid and both died. They were my friend’s parents. They had one vaccine each. Both were otherwise healthy.

CharlotteRose90 · 22/06/2021 12:25

I know 5 people that have tested positive after the vaccine. It doesn’t stop you getting it.

whatswithtodaytoday · 22/06/2021 12:29

My friend caught it after her first vaccination, the same week as she got her second (NHS). She felt really unwell for a few days - basically flu - but recovered quickly and is now fine.

Kittyswhiskers · 22/06/2021 12:36

Thanks. At 19 weeks pregnant I’m starting to get a little more anxious. I’m fully vaccinated but work in a hospital so feeling really crap about it all.

I know one person who caught it after first moderna. Said it was just like a bad cold

SNKB14 · 22/06/2021 12:45

For what it’s worth, I’m also pregnant, 23 weeks now. Been advised that as numbers were lower that I didn’t need to be moved, but tbh I was happy to stay with my team, and work in the lower risk bays and more often than not I’m in charge of the ward these days so not as much patient facing as such.

My son is a med student he has recently heard of fellow med and dentistry students testing positive despite having both vaccines. I think they had no/mild symptoms and it was picked up on lft testing.

A friend's DH was on the AZ trial (healthcare worker). He had both jabs last year but tested positive for covid at the end of 2020.

He had none of the classic symptoms and probably wouldn't have got a test normally but has to test once or twice a week for his job. His 'only' symptom was extreme tiredness but was still able to do some stuff around the house while he was off. He went back to work after his two weeks.

I don't know if it makes a difference but he's in his 40's.

Hothammock · 22/06/2021 12:53

This is a bit on the grapevine but my colleague at work has a friend who died last month from covid 19. They were in their 50s and had both vaccines.

BetterthanIthink · 22/06/2021 12:55

I know of 3 people all 40+ who in the last 2 weeks have tested positive and are double jabbed . All had mild symptoms .All started with a sore throat . Very much like hay fever / summer head cold . All perfectly fine now

bumblingbovine49 · 22/06/2021 12:55

This is pretty poor messaging from a health care professional. As well a reducing symptoms if you catch Covid , vaccine also considerably reduce the risk of transmitting Covid. So therefore by default cut the risk of someone catching it from a vaccinated person . That doesn't of course mean that no-one will get Covid after having been fully vaccinated . It means this will happen with fewer people than amongst those that have not been vaccinated and that even unvaccinated people are less likely to catch it from someone who has has Covid if that person was previously vaccinated .

TheFlis12345 · 22/06/2021 12:57

I know a family who have all had it after their first jab. None of them had any symptoms, they only knew they had it because the daughter was doing regular tests for school.

Bluntness100 · 22/06/2021 12:57

Op, most people who get it from what I understand did so either before full protection kicked in or had it when vaccinated.

But none of the vaccines are one hundred percent effective. They simply reduce it to a benign illness like the cold for most.

LillethCrane · 22/06/2021 13:00

I’m 38, had my first Pfizer vaccine last weekend, and tested positive yesterday.

I feel pretty dreadful to be fair.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 22/06/2021 13:01

Totally anecdotal, but my aunt had covid once, then was vaccinated twice. She caught it again, was hospitalised, and died.

HairyFloppins · 22/06/2021 13:02

Has anyone had covid, then the vaccines, then tested positive. Really don't want it again.

Winederlust · 22/06/2021 13:05

My brother caught covid 2 weeks after his first jab (Pfizer) - so before it's deemed fully effective- and was ill for a week with flu like symptoms.

whatswithtodaytoday · 22/06/2021 13:18

Unfortunately after only a week you wouldn't have had much immunity built up. It takes around three weeks to get to a decent level.

I hope you feel better soon.

Fitforforty · 22/06/2021 13:44

Yes, people have caught covid 2 weeks after both vaccines and have required hospitalisation. There was a recent BBC article about it.

Bronson2 · 22/06/2021 13:52

Yes, a clinically vulnerable friend of me who only has one kidney and was vaccinated ages ago. Though she still got ill she is recovering okay. Of course there's the possibility she could have been much worse without the vaccination

ProfessorPootle · 22/06/2021 14:05

My sister is front line medical staff. Her colleague and her colleague’s dh are both also front line medical and have both recently tested positive for the delta variant. Both of the have had Covid last year, both had had both vaccines. Neither were particularly ill with the delta variant, one had symptoms, one didn’t.

roses21 · 22/06/2021 14:10

I've just tested positive for Covid and I feel rubbish. Cough, sneezing, sore throat, malaise. No fever thankfully. I had two Pfizer vaccines back in January, felt rough after the second so thought I'd had a good response. I was also tested for Covid antibodies last week prior to hospital treatment and I had them so I thought I was pretty immune. Seems not!

MiddleParking · 22/06/2021 14:10

An elderly relative caught it after one jab while in hospital for something else. He was absolutely fine.
