I think I've heard it all now!

DH and I were chatting with 18yo DS over dinner about him getting the vaccine. DS said he'd like to know why people's arms are magnetic at the site of vaccine after vaccination, before he has his. Cue DH and I pressing fridge magnets to put arms, and DS seeming surprised when the didn't stick!

He's a bright lad, why on earth he would have thought that was a thing I've no idea, but I think I've heard it all now.

Apparently it is a thing in you believe certain parts of the internet

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 19/06/2021 23:00

My teen also mentioned this. I haven't tried it or given it some thought because its bollocks. Conspiracy theories are always fucking stupid and intelligent people will fall for them..

BigasdaB · 19/06/2021 23:06

There was a tiktok doing the rounds saying that, it came up on for you page with people duetting it saying how silly it was. Guessing he saw the original, rather than it being called out.

starryskylark · 19/06/2021 23:08

I think often injections contain some trace about of metal, so it could be that or weirdos saying they contain microchips 😜

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 19/06/2021 23:10

Yeah , I saw some women ranting about it. When she put the magnets on herself they kept falling off 😂 obviously her vaccine didn't work properly 🙄

That was hilarious - did you see the faces of the people behind in the audience as she tried to demonstrate it?!

She was a nurse I think. It beggars belief.

Dalooah · 19/06/2021 23:17

I was a total sceptic about this whole magnet on arm thing but it does actually happen. My husband tried it the morning after having his- about 16/17hours later and it did actually happen. I was SHOCKED to say the least but it no longer works, 2weeks later. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Dalooah · 19/06/2021 23:20

Ps, scientist who's fully vaccinated here. Can't explain it and it makes ZERO sense but a coin did attach itself to the site of the vaccination 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Womendohavevaginasnick · 19/06/2021 23:26

All these conspiracy theorist people talking about metal getting in your blood etc. Do they know what iron is 😂

LynetteScavo · 19/06/2021 23:32

DH licked the magnet he was using to try and make it stick to fool DD . I have my second vaccine in a few weeks, so will try it then. If you're having us on @Dalooah, I won't be impressed! Grin

@LynetteScavo lol I hope not! i wasn't with DH when he made the video but he swears it did work! He had the Pfizer if that makes any difference 😂

This was on a viral TikTok and spawned loads of responses that also went viral. A doctor on TikTok effectively debunked it showing that you can make anything stick to your skin using a bit of sweat or grease. The magnets used in the original video were very small and thin.

Incidentally this was the topic of another viral TikTok where people ran a magnet over a plastic bag of dried baby porridge/oatmeal. The magnet picks up bits of iron in a cereal being sold as FORTIFIED WITH IRON but somehow managed to send millions of people into hysteria about what's being put into baby food...

It's been all over TikTok. The internet is shaping your sons brain Grin

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/06/2021 23:55

I was really disappointed when my Internet reception didn't improve when I got vaccinated. What's the point in being injected with 5G if you don't get better reception?

Well they've pulled all the masts down haven't they? Cause it was killing the birds, remember! All the radiation it gives off, cause they're sooooo dangerous, even though they probably use a microwave to cook food with, wait for it, radiation!
Spekoppar · 20/06/2021 06:37

Even some of the original people who did it on tiktok admitted it was a prank. www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/57207134

roguetomato · 20/06/2021 07:29

I'm sure your ds was joking, but if he wasn't I would seriously worry. How can anyone who had decent education be able to believe that.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/06/2021 08:00

And every single one of them is wittering on about this crap on the internet, which is facilitated by wireless communications.

Give them what they want. Turn it all off so we're not exposed to the 'dangerous radiation'. Then they'll probably complain that they're being cut off from communications but you can't have it both ways.

frumpety · 20/06/2021 08:11

Just tried it with a fridge magnet, quality item from the RNLI, and it didn't work Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/06/2021 08:12

Even worse - there is dihydroxioxid in nursery food!!!

There were actually people, who looked to me as if they had a brain and had been to school raising this at kindergarten when my two were there.

Yes that was really funny. She was a nurse and apparently now magnetic and the faces on the people behind her.

Social media spreads alsorts of rubbish about the vaccine, your son probably read it somewhere and might have assumed correct.

It's an easy one to prove wrong 🤣

It appears the vaccine causes a local ´infection' reaction that makes the skin clammy. So things do actually stick due to that, but not because it is magnatic. Something plastic or paper that is very light would also stick.
