Has this school trip just a mockery of bubbles

My dd is year 6. She would love to spend time with different year groups but obviously they are still in school bubbles.

Today her class went on a trip to a museum. They were free to roam around with other schools with no social distancing in place. What is the point in bubbles anymore when they museums are open to big groups of schools with no masks? She said there were kids from other schools pushing and shoving to see the various attractions 🤷‍♀️

How lovely that they were able to go and enjoy this little bit of normalcy.
The numbers allowed in the museum will have been calculated carefully to allow for social distancing.
Were you there? How do you know there was not social distancing?

Hsurbbrb · 16/06/2021 15:44

I didn’t even realise they were still in bubbles in school. Restrictions are easing now. My local pubs and shopping centres are rammed. I couldn’t get worked up about a school trip to a museum

jgw1 · 16/06/2021 15:46

As soon as families, school buses, football teams, scouts, guides, you name it were not in year group bubbles, then year group bubbles were being mocked.

Year group bubbles only properly existed in the minds of those who know little about schools, but had to be seen to be doing something to make them "covid safe".

NannyAndJohn · 16/06/2021 15:48

Sounds like the trip was a breeding ground for Long Covid.

I'd be complaining to the school.

MonsterMash2210 · 16/06/2021 15:51

School bubbles made no sense when after school clubs/ childcare were still permitted.

I really cannot get worked up about it tbh.

I think it’s great that children were able to have a school trip.

My son is in year 1 and has never had a school trip.

He missed out on Reception as their school trip was going to be in the summer.

This year they just cancelled all their usual school trips.

Bobholll · 16/06/2021 15:51

A breeding ground for long covid.. that’s a new one 🤣

You can’t assume anyone there has covid. & you can’t assume everyone getting covid gets post viral symptoms, most don’t. Good grief.

UserAtRandom · 16/06/2021 15:56

School bubbles were already a mockery of bubbles.
children still mix
-with siblings

  • in other people's houses
  • in parks/play areas etc
  • at after school clubs
  • when they go on trips to museums with their families

This trip doesn't seem much different to any of the above things!

actiongirl1978 · 16/06/2021 15:59

Think it's brilliant that they went on a trip. Our yr8 and Yr6 leavers are having a joint trip next week. So happy.

My kids just played a rugby tournament with 3 other teams. Full contact. It was great, and so good for them to get back to some normalcy. Children have lost so much, so many of their activities have been curtailed for far too long.

The vaccine roll out is working. People might still be craving covid, but they arent dieing from it. Covid is never ever going to go away. We have to learn to live with there always being a little bit or a risk, and maybe just shutting down certain locations when there are extreme levels of infection of a very bad strain.

You're going to have to get used to life being back to "normal" which includes living with risk now.

Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 16/06/2021 16:02

@NannyAndJohn

Do you think long covid is a different strain which is passed on when groups of children mix?

Downtown36 · 16/06/2021 16:02

So glad to hear children are able to enjoy some normalcy after missing out on so much.

However I really do appreciate that for some the idea of opening up and mixing is causing very real concerns. Perhaps going forwards you could undertake a more in depth risk assessment before allowing your child to take part - for example the museum could have confirmed what capacity it is currently operating at and what measures it has in place etc.

Um what now?
Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 16/06/2021 16:05

Craving covid? Very odd type! Sorry. I meant catching covid.

museumum · 16/06/2021 16:09

I’ve been in a few museums and all are very clear on the social distancing expected with dots in the floor one-way systems etc.
If the children weren’t following instructions then I don’t know what can be done but keep them locked up in their class bubbles at school.

CarrieBlue · 16/06/2021 16:16

Did you really believe in the magic bubbles OP? You’ll be thinking the magic tape on the floor works next 🙄

someusernameorother · 16/06/2021 16:20

Most of the rules now are just pantomime...

Crepescular · 16/06/2021 16:27

Yeah, because Year 6 students are well known for their adherence to rules and restrictions, aren't they?
Ugzbugz · 16/06/2021 16:33

My son does football and tennis with other school friends, hangs out with friends from different schools etc.

This is no different than people mingling in pubs and packed shops etc. Life has to go on. The school bubbles are pathetic when there are a range of siblings and childminders etc.

JustABloodyMinute · 16/06/2021 16:34

Yes, a pantomime. Our school is really strict and children are not allowed to play with their friends during school hours because they are in a different class. After-school club is the same. Can't wait for school to go back to normal, not having any trips here.

LadyCatStark · 16/06/2021 16:35

Yes you’re right you’re far more likely to get long Covid from visiting a museum 🙄.
Hellocatshome · 16/06/2021 16:36

School bubbles stopped making sense a long time ago. DS is in a year group bubble but also plays football for 2 different teams and cricket for another team. The kids on these teams come fr approx 7 different secondary school and are a mixture of year 9 and 10.

Emmacb82 · 16/06/2021 16:40

I would just be happy that my child got to go on a school trip and had a bit of normality. It’s actually quite sad that children themselves are feeling like they have to report back the covid restrictions not being in place when all they should be focusing on is having a lovely time. My ds is in reception and all their school trips have been cancelled. We have got to learn to live with covid, it’s not going anywhere.

Looneytune253 · 16/06/2021 16:41

Are you sure? The museums I have visited since covid have one way systems and you walk in your group/family thru the museum then straight out the other side

TheVampiresWife · 16/06/2021 16:47

Oh my 😂
RaspberryCoulis · 16/06/2021 16:58

I hope she had an amazing day out at the museum and enjoyed being able to do something with her friends.

All this bubble rubbish.... walking past another child in a museum is just the same as walking past another child in the supermarket or anywhere else.
