Has this school trip just a mockery of bubbles

My dd is year 6. She would love to spend time with different year groups but obviously they are still in school bubbles.

Today her class went on a trip to a museum. They were free to roam around with other schools with no social distancing in place. What is the point in bubbles anymore when they museums are open to big groups of schools with no masks? She said there were kids from other schools pushing and shoving to see the various attractions 🤷‍♀️

@CarrieBlue

Did you really believe in the magic bubbles OP? You’ll be thinking the magic tape on the floor works next 🙄
The tape doesn't work? No, tell me it is not true.

Doesn't the virus know it has to keep to the left in the corridors?

Remmy123 · 16/06/2021 17:17

Good for them I'm pleased they got to go on a trip and be normal.

Same as going to the shops OP - no one is in bubbles 🙄

Many school staff won't have been vaccinated yet and a higher number won't have had their second vaccine.

It's easy to say "learn to live with it" when you've been vaccinated and you're not the unvaccinated school staff working with no distancing and dealing with daily coughs, first aid, blood, vomit, toileting problems. Etc.

This is bollocks. They’re literally up to 20 year olds. How many staff who work in schools are under 20?

No it isn’t. I’m 46 and there’s three weeks until I get my second vaccine. Very few of my colleagues have had their second vaccine, and a fair proportion haven’t had their first yet. The headlines may say 20 year olds can book their vaccines but it’ll be at least two months until they are fully covered.

@NannyAndJohn

Sounds like the trip was a breeding ground for Long Covid.

I'd be complaining to the school.

I'm 32. I havent been offered a vaccine yet. I called the hotline and they looked me up and told me no appointment has even been generated for me, so he sorted that and said I will get an email within 72 hours with a vaccine appointment but iit may he a few weeks until the actual appointment. He also told me this isnt uncommon because the system has had quite a few failings so people have been missed and if they dont call up to ask, they will continue to be missed.

Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 16/06/2021 20:13

Just to clarify, I'm in Scotland. We cant book appointments like in England. We just have to wait for a letter, so you wont know you've been missed out until they announce that they are finished with your age group in your area. That announcement is usually on twitter so if you're not on twitter, not following your health board and not googling to check then you wont actually know that you've been missed because you'll just be waiting for your letter.

But it’s been widely reported what the age categories for getting the jab are so people can just case it up surely. If you’re working in a school and you’re feeling nervous, surely you’d keep a check on it? All the schools round here took their staff en mass to get spares of the Pfizer jab months ago!

Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 16/06/2021 20:28

@LadyCatStark

Where I am, the NHS board for my area still says they are currently posting out appointments for the age group 30 to 39 so wait for your letter. I called up on the off chance, and found out that I've been missed. If I waited for it to switch to saying they are now posting out 20 to 29 year olds letters, it would be a few more weeks and then another few more weeks until my appointment.

Yes, they are widely annoying what's happening on a national level, but some NHS areas are going faster than others.

LadyCatStark · 16/06/2021 21:17

@Librariesmakeshhhhappen that’s pretty shit! My area called up over all over 30s weeks ago, I’m actually having my second on Friday. Over 70% are now double vaccinated. It’s pretty unfair that it’s not the same across the country (although we have been royally screwed over with further restrictions!)

GintyMcGinty · 16/06/2021 21:20

Hope your child had a great time.

Well done to the school for organising this.

I took my class on a school trip to a museum yesterday - we were the only school there so I take with a pinch of salt the idea that there were “loads” of other schools there. I would have thought the brief contact they may have had with each other would have been a miniscule risk. I had a lovely email from a parent thanking us for doing it. It was so thoughtful.

Clickbait · 17/06/2021 07:33

Since 12 April, my DC have been back to playing after school sports with kids from several different schools. I support that. We can't keep the kids locked up forever.
