Horrific headache after Oxford

Mammaaof · 16/06/2021 12:06

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced an horrific headache after having the Oxford jab? I had it yesterday and started to feel unwell last night ( I was unwell after my first jab but flu like symptoms) but towards 10pm I started to get an horrific headache and it's still there now, im laying in a dark room and have been sleeping but the pain even to turn my head is horrific. I'm sure it's just a normal side effect but has anyone else experienced a headache like this? Thank you

I hope all is ok op and well done for heading straight to A and E.

Bagelsandbrie · 16/06/2021 14:08

Well done for getting to a and e. Hope it’s nothing serious. Flowers

Golden2021 · 16/06/2021 14:11

Well done for getting checked out.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/06/2021 14:21

I am so relieved you've gone to A&E. Chances are more than excellent you're perfectly fine, but you just can't risk it. Better safe than sorry.

Aalvarino · 16/06/2021 14:26

Glad you got checked. That's the right thing to do. Odds are you will be absolutely fine and if you aren't, then early intervention is important.

Is it a good idea to take Dissolvable Aspirin to thin the blood if after a vaccine you fear a headache may be because of a blood clot? 2 days before and after my 2nd Phizer jab I took low dose Aspirin and had LESS reaction to the jab than the first time, when I took no such precautions. But is this a good idea?

User657849 · 16/06/2021 15:01

@PeterG11, it’s been established that aspirin doesn’t help with the type of blood clots cause by the vaccine.

You can find many articles on the internet. Statement below is from the NHS website.

 1. Will taking aspirin before vaccination with the AZ vaccine reduce the clotting risk for my patients? It is NOT recommended to take aspirin before vaccination with AZ, unless this is already part of your patient’s regular medications. Investigations are underway to understand the biological mechanisms behind this extremely rare condition of thromboembolic events with thrombocytopenia and whether the association is related to the vaccine platform (the way in which the vaccine delivers antigen) or some other immunological mechanism. Whilst aspirin may be used to reduce clotting risk in other conditions, it is not currently thought to have the same effect in this condition and may in fact worsen the outcome by increasing the risk of bleeding. Therefore no one should self-medicate with aspirin to cover the period around and after the vaccination.

I had this. At first it was just a headache every day but it developed into a 24/7 headache that nothing would shift and eventually nausea as well. It was my second jab so I didn't make the connection. The intense headache lasted about 2 weeks but it was 6 weeks before I felt ok. At week 4 I made a GP appointment -for 10 days later Hmm but by the time it was due I was improving so cancelled it.
Still not convinced it was the vaccine because I had nothing the first time other than a flare of my auto immune disease.

Yikes. Isn't having auto immune issues one of the risk factors for developing these rare clots?
Geamhradh · 16/06/2021 15:54
@Geamhradh I think that’s the state of play in every GP practice. Even if they are one of the rare-as-rocking horse shit decent practices, if the OP rang up with those symptoms they’d tell her to go straight to A&E so why bother? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Yes, sorry, I'm not in the UK. Hadn't realised there were still no face to face appointments etc.

Hax · 16/06/2021 16:00

Yikes. Isn't having auto immune issues one of the risk factors for developing these rare clots? Is it? I didn't know. I was so grateful to get my vaccine as I was shielding I would have taken the risk anyway. Hopefully I am past the danger period as I had the vaccine in April and my headache resolved a couple of weeks ago.

BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 16/06/2021 16:04

I’m surprised anyone was told to report side effects. I wasn’t. I’ve had both jabs and did have a bad headache with the first one. Husband had nose bleeds which I found concerning.

JuneJustRains · 16/06/2021 17:04

Yes, nosebleeds should be yellow carded. Has he done that?

It was all over the news rather than a thing you were told at the vaccine clinic, in our case.

I similarly didn’t report a severe headache with vomiting - as I thought I was just outside the time window of interest. Got thoroughly scolded for NOT reporting straight away (but I’m still live and kicking, with a warning to report immediately next time).

BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 16/06/2021 17:28

No he hasn’t reported it. I had a look at the website and couldn’t be bothered with the pages of details to be filled in.

Golden2021 · 16/06/2021 20:56

How did you get on?

ThatsMeInTheCornerThere · 16/06/2021 22:02

How you doing @Mammaaof

Mammaaof · 16/06/2021 22:06

Im back home now, had lots of tests including a scan but all clear! They gave me paracetamol via IV and got rid of the headache and touch wood it hasn't come back! Thank you for all the advice! They were more than happy to see me at the hospital! X

Rainbowsandstorms · 16/06/2021 22:13

So glad you’re feeling better and you were well looked after Flowers

julie81 · 16/06/2021 22:21

Great news. Glad you are feeling better.

Hax · 16/06/2021 22:32

Good news. Did they think it was vaccine related?

Mammaaof · 16/06/2021 22:46

Yes they did think it was side effect but I'm on medication daily for migraines so they think it could have interfered with it, but it was definitely worse than any migraine I've ever had and I've been hospitalised with them before this was a totally different sort of pain x

SirVixofVixHall · 16/06/2021 22:46

Such good news, great that you are now pain free and back home.

MossRock · 16/06/2021 22:51

So glad you’re ok OP! 👍 for getting it looked at. Hope you don’t have any more pain
