Apparently SAGE broadly agree with your calculations
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/07/12/covid-deaths-likely-peak-200-day-summer-say-government-scientists/. - up to 200 deaths but, they think, it could be a lot less than that.
And SAGE are optimistic that people will be sensible
"Scientists making the models assumed there would be no "big bang" of people abandoning face masks and social distancing.
Instead, Sage predicts that people will gradually ease their way back to increased social activity over several months and that people will maintain some mitigation behaviors - such as mask wearing and avoiding high-risk indoor events - on their own accord."
I'm actually feeling a lot more optimistic now, having heard some of the broadcast, and the thinking that has gone into this.[/quote]
Glad to know my maths is still my strong point.
As for the people easing in, I do think that's what going to happen. To begin with we'll probably see relatively small numbers of people ditching the masks (I'm exempt so haven't been wearing one anyway, so I'll eventually be ditching the lanyard). As those uncovered faces become more normalised and more people have the one or two times when they forget to put one on, the percentage not wearing masks will increase, until eventually its only the small minority still wearing them (for whatever reason, be that they are vulnerable or they are simply risk averse). I would imagine that process is going to take several months it won't happen in an instant.
