Greater "this is not a lockdown" Manchester

Anyone else sick of us being treated like this. I'm in one of the regions where "variants of concern are spreading" and am really annoyed by the messaging.
There's surge testing and a vaccine boost, although apparently we're not getting extra vaccine so surely this just means second vaccines will be delayed?
And we're being advised to avoid travel out of area and avoid meeting people inside. But you've got Andy Burnham out saying it's advisory and not a law. So do you want us to stop meeting inside or not? If it's only advisory then you've got some people bending over backwards cancelling plans and feeling conflicted about what we should be doing, and then there's some people just carrying on as normal. What's the point of this? If the government actually believes people need to do these things then why not say that and stop the mixed messaging and placing the guilt on us...

My son is invited to a party next week that's at an indoor play centre, do we go anymore?
Does my husband go to the gym? Can meet people in their garden? And no indication of how long we're being asked to do this, yet again...

I've written to my GM Tory mp to let him know how annoyed I am about the effect this is having on our kids education and how this could have been prevented but he doesn't usually give a shit and just parrots whatever lies Johnson and co feed him. Maybe they are hoping the pathetic £50 per child they have allocated to help them catch up will make up for losing even more of their education because our PM fancied a trip to India. I suggest anyone else who feels like this also writes. They need to know.

Spinningaround21 · 10/06/2021 17:12

Tiers don’t work, people just travel to where is open. I didn’t I have followed everything I know covid is bad. Most of us in Gm or the north have followed restrictions even the enhanced ones we got lgiven in august last year. Just like most people did who accuse us of not doing. Just like September/October this wave will hit other areas ….

newnortherner111 · 10/06/2021 17:23

The government did not make India red list when they should have done, but do not want to admit this and introduce restrictions in the areas where it has spread most. It would be an admission of yet another mistake (the only time Mr Johnson can be on time is for his own wedding). The government would have to pay support which means less money for its mates/chums.

Don't blame Andy Burnham, if someone in the Tories as remotely able as him had been Prime Minister at least 10,000 fewer people would be dead.

Wilma55 · 10/06/2021 17:34

I'm in Bedford where the rate is 154 per 100000.
Vaccines
71.2%
1st dose
48.7%
2nd dose
We were included in the recent advice not to travel but don't think we are now.

Frazzled2207 · 10/06/2021 17:46

The best case scenario now is that hospitalisations will not get significantly worse and cases will eventually come down.
But goodness knows how many thousands of children are going to be sent home from school in the meantime and a lot of them are going to be ill and it’s 100% the fault of the government for letting in the Indian variant not the GM people. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t broadly been sensible and rule-abiding the whole time.

Some might take offence that I said it might be lower in the SW because they are still taking it seriously but factually every pub and restaurant we visited on half term holiday made us use the covid app (each person had to do it).

Many posters on here from infected areas said they aren't following rules anymore, don't use the app, don't follow unless law, don't care, come and go how they want to Hmm

Just going by what posters on here say, both this thread and other threads then the holiday area was still taking it seriously. Being offended doesn't mean its incorrect.

June2021 · 10/06/2021 18:50

@LucilleTheVampireBat

You took offence to taking it seriously in the SW where we were on holiday but then said you will carry on as normal so ignoring restrictions Hmm there you go then

Ilikewinter · 10/06/2021 18:53

I think youll probably find that those of us posting on here are frustrated because we have and still are following the rules, even though im throughly peeved off doesnt mean im not following the rules. My frustration lies with those that havent followed them since day 1 and the government for not making better and quicker decisions when we could all see what was happening with the rising cases.

Don’t be ridiculous. You still have to check in with the app up here too! Have you been to everywhere in the country to compare?
XingMing · 10/06/2021 20:02

I live in Cornwall, where Covid rates have generally stayed low through most months of the pandemic. It's interesting that people who have travelled here for a break think our hygiene rules are stricter than Manchester.... give your head a wobble, and understand that because hygiene rules have been followed more closely here, that MIGHT just have a bearing on why our infection rates are so much lower. So just follow the fucking rules... get the vaccine x 2... get it done, stay a safe distance apart, wash your hands and let's all kiss it goodbye.

KurtWilde · 10/06/2021 20:10

@June2021 do you think we're that backward up north that we don't have the app up here?? My local Starbucks won't even allow takeaway coffees without agreeing to teach and trace,

We’re not one homogenous group though. Most of us are following the rules. We are washing our hands and we are social distancing. In my area we have no cases, no deaths and 3 people in hospital in the last week. 81.2% of people have had their first vaccination and 66.7% have had their second, yet it doesn’t make the blindest bit of difference! What more can we bloody well do?
KurtWilde · 10/06/2021 20:11
  • track and trace

Bloody autocorrect

KurtWilde · 10/06/2021 20:12

Well said @LadyCatStark

LadyCatStark · 10/06/2021 20:16

Thanks, I do have a bit of a bee in my bonnet, but it’s so frustrating that we’re here again getting the blame for something that’s completely out of our control! No one blamed Londoners when things were really bad there.

Mabelone · 10/06/2021 20:21

People in the NW are sick of it.

KurtWilde · 10/06/2021 20:30

Me too lady, people talking like we haven't all done our very best, like our hygiene must be abysmal, like we don't have to adhere to track and trace! Most of us are thoroughly sick of it now having done everything we can to follow the guidelines etc.and we're still being told we're up the creek.

XingMing · 10/06/2021 20:31

Well, somebody or some folk, in your community are not following the rules or accepting the vaccine, because otherwise there would not be so much contagion. Transmission vectors are fairly cut and dried, decided months ago. Please feel free to stay at home. The county of Cornwall only has 20 max intensive care beds. These are often filled with idiots taking on physical challenges far beyond their fitness. Most of them will get better, even if they end up quadraplegically disabled.

Have you not read the statistics that I posted for my community??? I don’t live anywhere near any of the places that have a higher number of cases. That is not my community. As I’ve said the north west is not one homogenous group. No one in my community has fucking Covid. How much clearer can I make this?????
KurtWilde · 10/06/2021 20:40

Lady some people seem to think the north is one giant pot of people living on top of each other. The ignorance is breathtaking.

LadyCatStark · 10/06/2021 20:41

Well it is difficult to socially distance down t’pit 😂
XingMing · 10/06/2021 20:46

I am not suggesting that you haven't followed the rules to the letter, but some people in the NW have clearly ignored them. We have friends in Lancashire, but they despair of the element who think they are immune to rules and above vaccination. I have lived in the North, but in Sheffield.

LadyCatStark · 10/06/2021 20:48

But yet again I’ll say it. The North West is not one single community!

Mareofwesttown · 10/06/2021 20:50

We’re not in GM but Preston so subject to the same advice.
Just no. We’ve all had our jabs. We have shielded for 14 months and complied with every requirement. Not prepared to carry on like this. People who choose not to be vaccinated, their look out.

XingMing · 10/06/2021 20:55

@LadyCatStark, and some people seem to think that Cornwall and the Southwest is a playground area where unicorns roam and they can behave as they like. Come here, our businesses need your visit, please have a good time, but play nicely. Is that so difficult?
