Typical, I was due to get jab number 1 last Thursday but have had to isolate for last 8 days because DS got Covid.

Now I have it and am really suffering. DS and DD breezed through it, however I have (tmi) lots of phlegm, awfully sore throat, chesty cough, temp, achy bones/body.

Tell me your best tips, what got you through?

I have ordered honey, lemons, lemsip, paracetamol, O2 sat monitor, am also looking at buying one of those disposable oxygen canisters?

I found regular hot baths helped with the aches and pains and the cough.

Get as much rest as possible.

Do you have another adult in the house able to help you?

I really lost my appetite so easy, tempting snack food helped me manage to eat a little along with little cartons of juice to sip at.

I hope you feel better soon.

Uber eats and lots of junk food got me through. I wasn’t too ill though, just felt rubbish for a couple of days and then the cabin fever was the worst thing.

Hope that you’re feeling better soon.

SpnBaby1967 · 05/06/2021 19:07

I only really had a sore throat and tiredness so still wfh throughout. I did find on about day 8 my legs got extremely painful so I had hot baths and plenty of paracetamol but that only lasted a day or so.

thanks all. Yes DH here and he's on point to look after the baby and bigger kids. Am staying away as much as possible.

Plan on calling in sick this week has feel really awful (and also won't be able to send kids to childcare).

I felt like it was a nasty cold at first but after a few days, jelly was the only thing I could eat and I could take sips of Lucozade. After a week, sickness and diarrhea resulted in dehydration so be careful. Cold flannel for the blinding headache was good too. Hope you recover quickly, take care.

I had it really mildly and was starving the whole time so ordered nice food. Watched a lot of junk on tv to pass time. I also drank ALOT of ginger and lemon tea. Made a bit pan full on a morning and sipped all day. No idea if it helped but was really refreshing (until I lost taste and smell) and ginger is really good for immune system.

Medra · 05/06/2021 19:49

Sleep. Curling up and reading. Watching lots of tv. Trying not to climb the stairs too often as it was exhausting. Accepting how horrible it was and having 3 weeks off work.

HairyFloppins · 05/06/2021 19:52

Paracetamol, Uber eats and cider.

Get well soon OP.

feellikepoo · 05/06/2021 19:55

yes the stairs! I feel a million years old, and am puffed out by the time I reach the top floor.

Rest and sleep lots.

Don't overdo it if you feel a little better. In my case I had periods of 'relief' and I'd start cleaning and trying to do my normal activities, this was a mistake.

Give it a good 10 days of rest (and drink lots of water) before trying to do too much.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 05/06/2021 20:13

Lucozade and box sets.

H1978 · 05/06/2021 20:19

Eucalyptus steam 3 times a day, it will help to clear your chest and prevent wheezing.

Wobblysausage · 05/06/2021 20:20

Laying on my stomach helped me

BiniorellaSun · 05/06/2021 20:26

I had it very mildly but here’s what helped:
High dose vitamins C and D
Olbas baths
Vicks on chest
Benylin
Night nurse to help sleep
Sleeping propped up
Daily nap.

muffindays · 05/06/2021 20:28

Dr John Campbell recommends mouthwash and sunlight if you can.

Sonata13 · 05/06/2021 20:33

Had it last March. Remember that I took lots of vitamin D and squirted lemon juice on everything. I used to get a bit breathless in the afternoon, so I always watched an episode of Taboo with Tom Hardy in. It was so riveting that it distracted me from the anxiety! I listened to a lot of audio books too. I constantly took my temperature but it never went up! I was paranoid about giving it to son and mother both staying with me. But neither of them caught it. Try not to worry, rest and distract your brain, even with talk radio! Sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery x

Medra · 05/06/2021 20:34

@feellikepoo I hope you’re feeling better soon. Make sure you take time to recover properly.

Wherediditgo · 05/06/2021 20:40

Beechams all in one cold and flu every 4 hours and ibuprofen in between (also at every 4 hours)
Other than that, I stayed in bed for a few days watching Netflix with my sunglasses on.

Wherediditgo · 05/06/2021 20:42

Oh and dioralyte too. That stuff massively perks you up!

rc22 · 05/06/2021 20:42

Lie on your front. Also Netflix and a really easy to read chick lit type book!!

KurtWilde · 05/06/2021 20:45

Lots of junk food and carbs, plenty of liquids, regular paracetamol.

SweetGrapes · 05/06/2021 20:52

Soups - the batchelors soups and/or Heinz tomato soup etc. Hot and liquid - so kept me hydrated when I couldn't eat anything much.
And paracetamol.

Faffinator · 05/06/2021 20:53

I agree with the hot baths and maximum rest, even beyond the point you feel you need it. I took an extra week off work and it helped my recovery a lot. Fresh air every day if you can. And don't under estimate the mental health aspect. The corona anxiety can really be debilitating. Deep breathing, meditation, CBD and lots of comedy all helped me.

Etulosba · 05/06/2021 22:22

I went to bed and slept 23 hours a day for three weeks. I barely ate anything and lost over a stone in weight. At three weeks I stopped taking paracetamol as advised and felt worse initially but then gradually got better.
