50+ & at risk groups - has your 2nd vaccine been brought forward?

chesirecat99 · 04/06/2021 17:33

Has anyone been invited to have their second vaccine at 8 weeks instead of 12?

I keep getting daily texts from my GP that my second vaccine is due now even though I didn't have my first vaccine at the GP. The appointment they are offering me is no use because:

  1. I'm currently several hundred miles away
  2. It is AZ

I still have my original appointment so I guess I will just stick with that. 119 told me to try cancelling and rebooking but there is no way of knowing whether I will be able to get an earlier appointment and there is a risk I might not be able to rebook until a later date than my original appointment Hmm The GP surgery won't discuss vaccination Hmm

I'm a bit baffled why I am being offered a second AZ vaccine by the GP hub when I didn't have a first.

Sorry, I forgot to say, it's 8 weeks since my first jab now.

My DH is 50+ and hasn't had his second jab brought forward. Had it about 10 weeks ago.

Dementedswan · 04/06/2021 17:35

Yes I had mine with 9 week gap

chesirecat99 · 04/06/2021 17:38

Would you mind saying how were you contacted @Dementedswan? Were you appointments via the GP or national system?

I haven’t. I considered cancelling and rebooking in order to bring it forward, but I decided against as I don’t want to risk there being no earlier appointments at the local vaccination centre.

Theforest · 04/06/2021 17:43

DH had it at 11 weeks

dreamingbohemian · 04/06/2021 17:44

I just had a text from NHS Booking today actually, asking me to bring my second jab forward (I'm 50).

I was also nervous about cancelling and then rebooking but it was no problem, there were loads of times available (I'm in London).

It only moved my date up by about 10 days but I'm still pleased.

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 04/06/2021 17:44

Got a text telling me I could book an earlier second jab. Had to cancel existing appointment to book new one. Having cancelled original I found the soonest I could book at the same centre was 2 weeks after my original appointment. Ended up booking one two days earlier than original at a different centre. Complete pointless faff. Had both now so I'm really happy though!!! Grin

Dementedswan · 04/06/2021 17:50

@chesirecat99 my gp contacted me and booked in in via their link.

BiggerBoat1 · 04/06/2021 17:55

Mine has actually been pushed back! I had an appointment booked for 12 weeks but was told the vaccination centre wouldn't actually be open on that day so I was given an appointment a week later.

chesirecat99 · 04/06/2021 17:56

I'm in London too dreamingbohemian so hopefully I won't have any issues if I get a text from the national system. It's just bizarre that I didn't get a text for the first vaccine from my GP but now I am getting an invitation to book a second AZ vaccine with them when I had a Moderna first vaccine at a different centre.

Thanks @Dementedswan. I think that is the same text with a link that I keep getting from my GP. Sorry to bombard you with questions, was your first appointment through your GP too?

DH is 50 he has his brought forward by 2 weeks

Dementedswan · 04/06/2021 18:08

@chesirecat99 it was as I'm in group 6. They flew through them. My 22 Yr old neighbour was contacted. Same practice I'm with and had her first vaccine a few days ago.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/06/2021 18:12

I'm 46 and not in an at risk group but have been able to book my 2nd vaccine on the National website for 8 weeks. I'm busy that week so booked it for 9 weeks in case I get side effects.

I had my first through the GP but don't want to wait for the second if I don't have to.

Slothsloths · 04/06/2021 18:20

No, I am CV and I kept my original appointment. I’ve had my second jab without anyone contacting me.

Bluntness100 · 04/06/2021 18:22

Yes, I got a text from my gp at the beginning of the week and I called them and they said to come in today, even though I had my last one at a vaccination centre and my second one booked for the 15 June at rhe same centre, So I popped in, got it and cancelled the vaccination centre one.

Pushkinia · 04/06/2021 18:24

I got a text from NHS vaccine booking today, telling me I can now book an earlier jab. Except it’s now the start of week 11 after my first jab, my original vaccine appointment is less than 2 weeks away and I can’t have it next week anyway because of medical treatment. After the week of stress with the original booking, due to no appointments being available, I’m leaving things as they are.

Thanks, everyone!

SweetGrapes · 04/06/2021 20:19

DD had her second dose at a walk in centre. They said to turn up at 56 days after the first dose.
Dh and I are a week away.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 04/06/2021 20:23

I'm 50. Had jabs through gp, got second one at 8 weeks.

Halloweenrainbow · 04/06/2021 20:24

I'm in Scotland. CV group 6. 2nd AZ appointment next week (week 13!). No earlier availability Sad.

Paquerette · 04/06/2021 21:29

I booked my vaccines through the NHS website. Got an email a couple of days ago (9 weeks after 1st vaccine) saying that I am eligible to have my second vaccine brought forward. I did have to cancel my original 2nd dose, but was able to rebook for Monday at the same vaccination centre. If you're only just past 8 weeks, you may get an email link to rebook soon too.
