How Much Longer?

How much longer do you think covid and restrictions will go on for?

I don't think restrictions will be lifted in 21st June. I don't think things will go back to something resembling normality until next year.

I am still being careful and feel very isolated working from home and not really socialising.

If there is any resentment towards the NHS its been caused by the psychological abuse we have been put through. Hopson did his fair share of that in the run up to Christmas.

Look at this. Dated the DAY BEFORE they "cancelled" Christmas.

www.hsj.co.uk/patient-safety/covid-infections-caught-in-hospital-rise-by-a-third-in-one-week/7029211.article

It makes what Chris Hopson was saying in the run up to Christmas really beyond the pale How DARE he and others guilt trip the public in the run up to/over the subject of Christmas and beyond HOW FUCKING DARE THEY

From earlier this year

NHS worker on ITV News when they were filming on a ward said its because people arent staying home. FFS Im fed up with this. The blame rhetoric didnt work in the 1980s AIDS epidemic. WTF do people think it will work now. And if you still attach blame to being ill then there will be no change when this is over. People will still go into work when ill with a cold/flu because they will have continued to internalize that ill = blame

BlackeyedSusan · 01/06/2021 02:47

I think there could be things put in place to help the larger venues... eg lateral flow tests, masks if appropriate, asking people to limit contacts after a big event. asking people to limit social gatherings, eg leave a week between meeting different groups say. trying to keep social distancing in shops, (easy in asda, not so easy elsewhere) keep working from home where you can, trying to meet outdoors, keeping good ventilation.

If most people take one to two measures, it will help reduce transmission.

sorry Tealightsandd
where in europe is ahead of the uk and where is giving to 12 year olds ?
do you have the links to reports because not what I am reading

Racoonworld · 01/06/2021 06:22

I’ve given up caring about it now and am just seeing my family and friends as usual. It was really affecting my mental health (I suffer from depression and anxiety), especially all the backtracking and talk of further lockdowns, so I’m now just focussing on myself and those I care about. I won’t do another lockdown or follow more restrictions.

SoSadAboutMyDad · 01/06/2021 06:36

To be honest, an August lockdown would make sense to be honest, to get cases down in children before we send them all off to Covid unsafe schools. Why the government removed masks in schools at this point is beyond me.

So children will have to be kept in during their summer holidays? That would be incredibly harsh on them.
FoolsAssassin · 01/06/2021 06:41

Can I very gently ask why you aren’t socialising OP? Yiu can’t do anything about working from home but at this point there is a fair bit you can do - could you focus on this and start making plans to make you feel less isolated ?

Onceuponatime1818 · 01/06/2021 06:42

@harverina

A friend of mine works in a senior position in health and social care and said that an August lockdown has been discussed

Please elaborate...! Sounds totally made up, why on earth would we need a lockdown in Aug, when kids aren’t at school, uni students aren’t all arriving etc

Overthebow · 01/06/2021 06:42

By end of August all adults will have had at least one jab and most will have had two. We really shouldn’t need a lockdown in August or September.

Jennyfromtheculdesac · 01/06/2021 06:58

Another lockdown won’t work because too many of the vaccinated won’t stand for it (me included). It will force people into socialising in homes which is not ideal.

pinkyflloyd · 01/06/2021 07:09

Long story but I don't really have anyone to socialise with at the moment.

I am dealing with vulnerable family members and that's just chats in the garden.

I'd be more inclined to "get myself out there" and meet new people after covid.

OP posts:
FoolsAssassin · 01/06/2021 07:16

That sounds difficult 💐 Totally get what you are saying but also think it might be time to gradually start getting out there just a little bit - know it’s easier said than done at the moment though.

Everything should be ok fairly soon but it is hard to know for sure and I think there’s a danger of putting off doing things that could be done now. That’s something I think applies to quite a chunk of the population, myself included.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/06/2021 07:17

Dunno. I'm not social distancing from my family and friends any more though and I won't ever again, no matter what restrictions come in, if any.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/06/2021 07:19

@harverina

Given that cases are rising again, I suspect there will be further restrictions at some point. A friend of mine works in a senior position in health and social care and said that an August lockdown has been discussed.

We’ve coped ok but recently I’ve started to struggle more. My DH has only had one vaccine so we aren’t going out and socialising. We meet family outdoors. I’ve had an awful year for other reasons (mum has advanced dementia) and I’m starting to feel like a caged animal.

I hate these sorts of comments. Your friend knows absolutely no more than anyone else, the leaders of the country have absolutely no idea what will be happening in August so your friend in health and social care's comments are irrelevant.
Poorlykitten · 01/06/2021 07:23

Surely everyone can socialise now? ( within the limits) Are people still shielding? If so, is it because they are unvaccinated. Most ‘vulnerable’ people must surely be vaccinated now.

nether · 01/06/2021 07:29

For some co-morbidities, the vaccine does not work well or at all (still being studied, but for those with immune issues, the news hasn't been particularly good so far)

Please don't assume that all the 'vulnerable' are safe. It's still and will remain a concern.

Now as society is heading for acceptable hospitalisation rate, we fully realise that we are the likely casualties for the greater good.

I'm not posting this because I expect everything to be planned round the most vulnerable. But because I don't want them to be invisible.

nether · 01/06/2021 07:31

It's about 500,000 have still been asked to shield because of that, and a further number beyond that who at/may not be affected.

All those formerly asked to shield are still living with advice to avoid all indoors settings and to keep the number of people they mix with as low as possible.

Imnothereforthedrama · 01/06/2021 07:33

Not much left to unlock only restrictions on how many people meet which for people getting married I’m sure they are hoping restrictions will be lifted . Most people are going out and about now and why not .
There will be no lockdown in august where do people even get this information from ? . The deaths are not increasing because people are vaccinated and that is the data that we should look at now for restrictions not cases . Even if they did it won’t be a lockdown like the winter one they can’t even justify it . I refuse to stop mixing now and most people I know have said the same .

Imnothereforthedrama · 01/06/2021 07:34

Most vulnerable are vaccinated or at least offered the vaccine we can’t lockdown for a small percentage of the population that’s ridiculous.

Pinetreesfall · 01/06/2021 07:47

I'm a permanent home worker so you do need to try and get out more as it can be isolating at the best of times.
I'm not having the vaccine but wouldn't expect a lockdown to 'save' those who hadn't had it.
Time to get on with life!

nether · 01/06/2021 07:51

@Imnothereforthedrama

That's why no one is advocating it, and it is not policy.

But it's also wrong to assume that because they're vaccinated, they're OK. No-one likes to be airbrushed out of the picture, because not everyone is OK

Imnothereforthedrama · 01/06/2021 08:14

I’m not saying everyone is ok but unfortunately that’s where we are now . It was never about protecting every single person if that was the case we would have zero deaths .

RedcurrantPuff · 01/06/2021 08:54

Whi are so many people seemingly desperate to lockdown?

It’s supposed to be W last resort not the default

The fact people think locking up a healthy population should be the default now is very worrying

TheKeatingFive · 01/06/2021 08:57

In fairness, it’s a small, if very vocal minority on here. And it’s obvious there’s sock puppeting going on.

No one I know in RL will entertain the idea of further lockdowns.
